A Pinky Promise Friend

“Do you pinky swear?”  And with the locking of their two littlest fingers, two young friends make a solemn vow.  A promise – to hold a secret close.  A promise of trust.  This pledge between friends apparently has been around since the turn of the century and is popular in countries and cultures around the world (who knew!) but, I think, is most often associated with younger girls.  From an early age, we long to have someone with whom we can share our heart.  Someone who will listen to our secrets – and then will be faithful to keep them.

Proverbs 18:24 “….there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

Yes, Jesus is our greatest friend.  The one who not only longs for us to share our heart but also listens.  Does not condemn and can forever be trusted to guard and protect our hearts and its secrets.

I also know that, as women, we long for connection.  For companions, yes, but also for close friends.  Perhaps, a close friend.  A pink promise kind of friend.  That friend with whom we can be genuine.  With whom we can share our hearts vulnerably and that we can trust.  If you have such a friend, thank the Lord.  She is a gift.  If your heart is longing for such a friend, ask God to bring her into your life.  And, certainly, whenever you are able – be that friend!

  1. Those kinds of friendships are so valuable! It’s amazing to know that we can talk to God about anything and that we can always trust him, but it’s good to have human relationships where we feel safe to be ourselves too!

  2. Hi Jennifer, a pinky promise friend. A warm, inviting, safe person to do life with. God has slowly brought some in since a good friend moved away a couple years ago. Friendship to the core takes time to ripen and take root. Thank you for visiting my blog today. I am happy to have cross paths with you here in the bloggerverse 🙂 In Christ, Julie
