Cocooned in Ice Today

A Simple Woman’s Daybook for January 18, 2011 – my first for this new year:)

Outside my window….is an icy wonderland. We had sleet, freezing rain and who knows what else last night and today everything is coated in simmery ice. Now it is no secret that I am overly cautious – actually terrified – of ice (having fallen twice in years past) but with nowhere to go….I am enjoying a warm day at home with my Hubbie!
I am thinking….about the comments you left yesterday – and some of the really weird (read that..yucky) things you guys have eaten! And it all tastes just like chicken!!
I am thankful for….my gas fireplace, cozy winter sweaters, snoozies (my favorite slippers), and my newest Yankee candle – “Gingerbread” – that is filling the house with the nicest aroma!
I am wearing….the above-mentioned cozy sweater and my snoozies – if you don’t have a pair of these slippers, you really should find some….really.
I am remembering….so many little details from last year. I transferred my important dates from last year’s daytimer to this year’s new one (I know, a little late but….) and was noticing all the days and events I noted last year. Several precious friends moving, lots of fun days away with Hubbie and days out with girlfriends, and all the special days I looked so forward to that are now come and gone. Goodness, life goes so quickly.
I am going….absolutely nowhere. That whole ice thing. But it is great to be able to stay home!
I am readingMade to Crave by Lysa Terkurst – more about that later.
I am hoping….that warm weather will return early this year. This winter has been beyond bitter and I really am too old for all this cold. Last night at work, I put out an entire display of flip-flops?!? Positive thinking, I guess.
On my mind….my sweet friend, Judy, who has a birthday tomorrow! We have been best of friends since fourth grade – yeah, a long time! – and she is a jewel. I hope she has a beautiful day!!
From the kitchen…something with ground chicken since that is what I took out of the freezer this morning. What that something will be – not sure but I’ll figure out before dinner time:)
Around the house….it smells yummy – like gingerbread. And the baseboards are clean – thanks Hubbie! and we are just beginning the newest house “project”…new kitchen counters! HOORAY
Plans for the week….Ladies Day Out is this week – breakfast and then thrift store shopping. Have I mentioned how much I enjoy the thrill of the hunt…for just the perfect treasure…at thrift store and consignment shops??!! 🙂 Can’t wait.
One of my favorite things…..well, let’s see – Yankee candles, snoozies:), birthdays, mornings out with a group of friends, and thrift stores!!

  1. What are snoozies? It was 87 here yesterday. And today I am going to my favorite day spa and lounge in the pools ALL day long. My daughter is on vacation this week, which means so am I!!!
Enjoy your day inside all nice and cozy! Oh, new countertops…i am jealous!!

  2. Clean baseboards and a gingerbread candle? How blessed you are! 🙂

Hope your kitchen counters turn out just like you want. Have a good day!

  3. It is soo funny how the same day, same month of the year etc., can bring such different weather. It is soo warm here recently. Truthfully? It has been beautiful…BUT I am not really ready for winter (as "winter's go in California that is) to be over. Snug and warm with a fire going sounds wonderful to me..I love the gingerbread candle too. = ) And new counters? How exciting…That will have to be us soon though I did find the perfect thing to sit over the top of my burn mark. You'd never know it was there. Problem is "I" know it is there, haha…plus, they needed replacing anyway. ENJOY your day! HUGS

  4. You can send your hubby down here to clean my baseboards! 🙂

I watched the movie from Netflix. You really might want to look into it. It is very affordable (we can have three movies on disc out at one time and I think it is $9 a month. You can get as many movies as you want a month, but you just have three out at the same time. They send you the movies via mail and you return them in the same envelope.

They also have instant movies which you can just watch on your tv or computer. It doesn't cost any extra. Young Victoria was on the instant movie list.

I know you will love it!

  6. Hi Jen! That's so crazy how our temperatures are so different! I'm listening to the news behind me and the weather guy just said it's going to be 76 both tomorrow and Thursday! So hard to imagine lots of ice. But I'm not ready for the warm weather yet as I have my own internal space heater these days! The cold last week actually didn't bother me that much like it normally does 🙂

So neat you are getting new kitchen counters! You'll have to take pictures when they are installed and BEFORE too so we can see the old and the new!

Okey dokey, my bed is calling my name.

    Love you!

    Erica

  7. Sounds like you had a cozy day…and a sweet smelling one! Thanks for the nice words about the blog. Feel free to use it, too. Actually, it is a compliment to know we have the same taste!!:-)
