Hello to July! The month has just begun, but we have already celebrated a holiday, remembered a birthday, started VBS, and we are down to just days until Jordan returns! I think it is going to be a great month! But, it is summer so I would not expect anything less than glorious!! The AC is doing a fine job and the humidity is not terribly oppressive, so we can enjoy the heat without passing out in it. Perfect summer:) So, time for July’s “Currently” link-up. I would love to know what you have been up to currently! Share in the comments. As for me…..
Currently, I am:
EATING – out a lot less often and just eating healthier in general! One more perk to summer, in my opinion. Eating healthy is not only tasty but always seems easier in the summer. I do love vegetables and the fresh vegetables are just amazing right now. And, has eating out become ridiculously expensive, or what? I would much rather eat at home (most days) but the prices lately really take any allure and pleasure out of restaurant dining. I will take a home-cooked meal any day!!
FEELING – annoyed with this cold/allergy/sinus thing that has been lingering for over three weeks now!! Almost four. The laryngitis lasted for over two weeks but has finally cleared, and most of the other gunk is better. But I would prefer gone. Besides, isn’t this something you are supposed to deal with in the winter?!?!
GOING – to get my hair cut today! Hooray. I have been trying to let it grow out some but have no idea why. I never like it when I do. I’ve also been clipping away it – to some degree or another – myself for months. It is not a good look. So, today is the day for a real haircut. With a professional who actually knows what she is doing and does not use repurposed craft scissors!! Imagine the possibilities…..
ORDERING – a few bits and pieces for some ongoing home improvement projects. We have been on a roll lately with updating a few things around the house. Things like bathroom cabinets (which were painted not replaced), hardware for the front door annnnd….new doorknobs throughout the house. For every door. Yes, I am excited about doorknobs! It is a bigger project than it sounds because there seems to be a door everywhere but it is going to make such a big difference! It’s the little things:)
REALIZING – I do not have to say yes to everything. Even if something is worthwhile. Even if I have the time or the resources. I can still consider things and I have the option to decline. To just say no – without explaining myself fifteen different ways. I can choose to say no sometimes – and it is okay. Maybe this is something I should have realized a long time ago, but I am just now getting comfortable with this reality.
And that is it. Another look at my life “currently”! If you have been enjoying summer’s good food – please share a recipe or even a suggestion for something good from the kitchen!! You can also go here to read what others are currently ordering or realizing!
There is a song that my granddaughters love by Shakira from the movie “Zootopia.” I feel like lately I am trying everything (gross overstatement) and can’t seem to say no, or to pass on things. It’s making me weary. Need to heed your good advice.
Glad it is just days ’til your son returns home. We ate out far too much over the holiday weekend. And now my tummy is upset. Probably in no way related but I need to definitely cut back this week. We are enjoying much cooler temps for the last week or so and even surviving with the unusual humidity that comes this time of year. Stay cool!!
Hooray for cooler than normal temps!! Hope your tummy is feeling okay soon:) So glad you stopped by!
I know you’re excited to see your son! Your haircutting experience made me laugh, I have been known to do the same, like that one time I was convinced I needed to try bangs again. I did NOT, I assure you, but I learned never to do that again. Ha! Amen, Sister on the not saying yes to everything. The Lord showed me that a few years ago in a homeschooling Bible study group we were involved in when my sons were younger- there was one lady who was always trying to get me to do extra things, but the Lord used her to teach me to be picky about what I sign on for. I don’t like making commitments I may not be able to keep. Thanks for always sharing your life with us! I hope you have a wonderful day, my friend.
Be picky! I like that. The Lord has definitely been teaching me to be choosy. Um, picky:) And yesterday, my stylist “convinced” me that I need to part my hair on the opposite side…as in, different from the way I have parted it for over 50 years. I’m too old for this! Please give me my part back……
We are in a stage of eating at home more (after a crazy June) and it feels so good! I love eating all our fresh veggies. Summer really is the best eating time!!!
I know – isn’t it delicious? Eating all the veggies…at home!
I think more of us need to realize that it’s okay to say no to things – no matter what they may be! Glad you’re having a great summer so far. 🙂
Thanks! Definitely great summer so far – hope your’s is going well, too!!
Okay. You might have just saved me from a few doctor’s visits. 4 out of 5 people in my house are dealing with the same thing you described! Ugh! Here’s to kicking that to the curb. Enjoy your haircut…always such a pleasure. And I think your ‘realizing’ is a great takeaway from COVID. We all got a taste of what we really love + missed–and what we can do without!
Ugh. Oh, I hope everyone is feeling better soon at your house…and that it does not drag on for weeks!! Double ugh. Glad you stopped by today!!
I feel like the Covid era actually helped me learn more about it being okay to say no to things – one new pattern I hope to hang onto from the last year, along with being okay with slowing down a bit more in general 🙂 I’m all about the fresh fruits and vegetables right now too – summer eating is the best!
I agree it’s easier to eat healthier in summer – think of all the delicious fresh salads and fruits. As for me, I’m enjoying all the wintery comfort food!
I’ve been eyeing this recipe for summer: https://smittenkitchen.com/2021/06/zucchini-butter-spaghetti/ but I haven’t made it yet.
Thanks for the recipe link! Looks like one worth trying!!
Thanks for sharing the recipe link! Definitely looks like one worth trying!:)
So trying to eat at home as much as possible lately! It really does make a difference! And YES to not saying yes to everything! That was a game changer for me.
Here’s to a month of yummy meals – at home!:) Glad you stopped by, Shelly!
I really like your realization! And it’s a good reminder for us all that we can say “no”, too!
Thanks, Laura!! I’m a slow learner…but I’m learning:)
I am also enjoying eating at home these days! All the fresh fruit and veggies.
And yay for new updates to your home. I get excited about things like doorknobs too. 🙂
Haha, I can totally relate to the excitement of a new haircut! I have one after almost a year next week and am so looking forward to it. Hope you feel refreshed with your new professionally styled hair!
So glad you stopped by!! And hope you enjoy your trip to the salon. Don’t let them “trick” you into parting your hair differently (after five decades)!! Just sayin.
Such a great post. I agree on summer being great for healthy eating and enjoying eating a home cooked meal over anything else. So sorry you’ve been sick. Ugghh..no fun.
Thanks, Kirstin….I am starting to feel like my old self again. Old…as in former – lol!:)
