Welcome friends and welcome to July!! Can you believe we are already here right in the middle of the year? The start of the downhill slide to…um, Christmas!?! Ok, no thoughts about holidays, winter or other such things! It is gloriously summer. Sunshine for days. And tomorrow is the Fourth of July. Happy Independence Day to all my USA friends and readers!! As usual, we will spend the evening tomorrow with our friends who live literally yards from the city’s fireworks launch. We have the perfect and prime viewing spot and, even more, we always have the best evening with several families and friends! Before all that, let’s get into this month’s Currently post hosted by my friend, Jen. Check out the whole link-up here. That said, currently, I am……
LOVING – my new plants. I mentioned earlier that my brother might give me some of his plants when he moved…and, indeed, he did. I think I ended up with eight:) I had the most fun finding just the right spots for each of them and we are all really enjoying what a difference they make in each room. I don’t know much about what kind of plants they are, etc. but will be learning as I go. Oh, I hope they do well. My brother really babied them. I’ll do my best but I am new at this whole plant mom thing. Maybe I need a t-shirt!?:)
A few other things I am loving just now: all the photos from baby Tyler’s first birthday party (wish I could have been there); early morning walks and getting my steps in every day; summer salad goodness; evenings on the front porch (the daylight just goes on for so long!!); and the new rug we picked up for the kitchen yesterday. We had been without a rug under the table for too long and I like the homey feel that has returned.
LOOKING FORWARD TO – a visit from my girlfriend in two weeks. She is traveling up for a few days with her daughter, Baby Tyler’s mommy, and that means I will get in some extra baby sweetness as well. At least, I hope I will see them too while they are here. Not sure of everyone’s plans but my friend and I will be hanging out together! We are planning to see a play, eat good food, maybe get in some shopping and eat more good food. Sounds like a great weekend to me:)
SAVORING – everything that is summer. I am in my happy season. Truly. Summer is the best!
CELEBRATING – the Fourth of July. Well, I will be tomorrow. I know our country is in a mess. And for those of you outside of the States who read my blog (and I so enjoy each and every one of you!), please do not judge all of us Americans by our crazy leadership, media and such like. Goodness, how embarrassing. There are quite a few of us here who are….well, normal. I will admit that I struggle to be too patriotic these days but I will look forward to celebrating tomorrow. Good food. Great friends. Freedoms that I don’t take for granted. I will celebrate that!
REMEBERING – my momma. Her birthday would be in three days. The sixth of July. And my parents’ anniversary would be on the tenth. She was so young when she got married. My grandfather would not give his permission for her to marry my dad until she turned sixteen….so they were married four days after her 16th birthday! Sixteen. I can hardly imagine any 16-year old I know these days being married and running a home. Apparently, she did it rather well. And became my mom a year or so later. That she also did quite well. This photo was taken before I was born so she must be about 17 there. I miss her.
I want to thank all those who regularly stop by the blog and, especially, those who leave kind comments when I miss a day blogging. I am finding it hard to post consistently in this happy season of mine. So many other things that call for my attention and/or that turn to my brain to mush. I really do want to get back on a schedule….and it will come. I hope the rest of your week includes some fun. Perhaps some fireworks and something off of the grill tomorrow!! Happy Fourth friends!!
Congrats on becoming a plant mama! You definitely need a shirt that proclaims your status as such :). Wow, your mom was YOUNG when she married your dad. Were the young more mature back then (no offense on the ¨back then¨)? Your upcoming visit from your friend sounds so nice as does your vantage point to view fireworks. Have a great weekend!
Thanks, Maria! It was a fun Fourth…hope you had a great day, too! And, yes, I think I might need that tshirt:)
Good luck with the new plants! I was so surprised that the plants my sister gave me a few years ago when she moved several states away have really thrived. She even talked me through pruning and getting those pruned parts to re-root so I have many baby plants from hers. I thought for sure I’d kill them all.
Your apology to all the non-American readers had me smiling; gosh yes, please do not judge us by our leaders and media! I keep saying I can not believe we can not come up with better candidates than these… I really wish we had MORE choices (but then again they might just be more of the same). I hope you have a wonderful 4th of July!
Such different times back them wasn’t it? I can’t imagine any 16 (0r 17 or 18!) year olds that would be ready for marriage these days.
Oh wow – I can’t imagine growing a second generation of these plants. I hadn’t considered that – but what fun! My brother would be soo impressed (if not jealous – lol!!)
Hello my friend! So good to see a post up from you. I understand about not being as consistent with blogging during this happy season. It is going to hit for me, too, before too much longer because canning and freezing season will be here and that leaves little time or band-width for blogging.
Have a wonderful Fourth of July tomorrow. I feel the same as you when it comes to our country and may we never take the freedoms that we still have left for granted. xx
Dianna, I hope canning and freezing is part of your happy season…or that you enjoy it. It sounds like a whole lot of work to me!:) We blog when we can, right? And how nice it is when we get back to it…the friends here are always welcoming!:)
Hello Jennifer. I agree that summer is the absolute best season and my favorite! I feel the same as you regarding the state of our country. I pray things will turn around and begin to improve very soon. I’m more excited than ever to vote this November! That’s such a lovely picture of your mom. I know you miss her. My mom’s birthday would’ve been last Friday. I miss her. It was so weird not having her here to celebrate this year.
Have a wonderful holiday tomorrow. Happy Fourth of July! I look forward to celebrating tomorrow and it’s a shame that so many no longer want to acknowledge and celebrate this holiday. Take care.
Yes, today would have been Mom’s birthday and she has definitely in my thoughts today. We did have a very nice Fourth…I hope you did as well! Thanks for stopping by, Julia!
Your mama was beautiful! I hear the stories of the young girls marrying early, I can’t even imagine! I’m so glad to have found and followed your blog again! Looking forward to following, and I hope you’ll share some plant insights, I would LOVE to keep plants alive hahah!
Well, there you are! All this time, for some odd reason, I thought I had you on my blog roll, nope…anyways, have a beautiful day, my friend.
I hope you had a fun 4th July! That was the day we had our election in the UK and it seems hard to believe that you only have two candidates to choose from when we have several (although it is predominately the main two!) Anyhow, we have a new government and they seem very keen to get going, after all they have had 14 years to prepare!
I do hope you enjoy seeing your friend when she visits, I’m sure you will!
