Trading my ashes for beauty….that He might be glorified. Isaiah 61:3
Who am I? A wife for almost 40 years. A mom for over 36 years. A sister and a friend, of course. Each of these help describe me. But, even more, I have been a Christian since accepting Him as my Savior when I was 12 years old and, this truth defines each area of my life. I have enjoyed some mountain top experiences but have been through some very deep valleys as well. Valleys of incredible grief and even pits of depression. However, most of my days are ordinary, routine kind of days. But in every one of my days, God has been faithful. He has walked with me whatever the day. He strengthens, comforts, encourages and blesses me with life "most abundant."
A favorite life verse: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10
Why do I write? Though not quite as private as my dad, I am definitely my father's daughter. I find it difficult to share. And to let others in. But I do love to write. I love to put words into sentences and sentences in paragraphs that help express my thoughts. I hope my words help me share my heart. Share the life that God has given me and all that He has done for me and through me. I write with the hope of giving Him at least a bit of the glory He is due.
A verse to guide my writing: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. I Peter 1:7
Good Monday Morning 10.24.22

Happy Monday….and here’s to a new week full of possibilities:) We had (another) lovely weekend here. I really am beginning to get spoiled – but I think a reality check is in my near future. More on that in a minute. I found a great Marketplace deal this weekend. I do not often shop online that way but we met some very nice folks….and came home with a perfect piece of furniture for my house. That was fun. My brother was also in town over the weekend. He and my son went hiking. They actually got completely misled by the trial markings and, well, they were lost. God was definitely looking out for them…..and they “just happened” to run into an older gentleman who was camping. (They saw no one else at any other time during the hike.) And this gentleman “just happened” to have a map. A map! Who has a map of trials up and down the Shenandoah? Their 9-mile hike ended up being about 14 miles….and they hiked the last 30 minutes in the dark. I’m so grateful that all ended well -and God kept them safe.
This morning, my husband and I headed out (way too) early for a few days of vacation. Flying is stressful for me. I’m not looking forward to it. But I am looking for to getting there and enjoying some time away even though the forecast is anything but appealing. Lots of predicted rain (several inches maybe!?) and temperatures that will definitely be pushing my comfort level as well as ending all thoughts of pumpkin spice and glorious autumn! Oh my. I will be gone on Wednesday….so there will be no post in the middle of this week; however, I do plan to have a post up on Friday. At least, that is the plan.
Before I end, I want to thank everyone for their comments from Friday’s post….especially regarding the “shoes in the house” idea. It seems rather unanimous. Whether you embrace the shoes off in the house rule or you do not, most agree asking guests to remove their shoes is a bit offensive. Truthfully, I have wondered about this. I’m now glad to know that I’m not the only one who feels that way. The blogging community can be so validating at times -lol! Socks in the house are not only cozy…but, apparently, are a sign that we are “just that kind of” friend!!:)
Have a wonderful week ahead. If you leave comments, I will certainly read them on my phone but will not be able to answer them until this weekend. I do you will come back on Friday!!
Hi Jennifer~ What a scare for your brother and your son! I know that there are no coincidences, God will intervene and send angels to help us along the way…what a blessing! A trip sounds like fun! I hope you have a very relaxing trip! It’s always fun to find something new for your home. I don’t have FB, but I have placed a few items on sale through Marketplace on my daughter’s account. I know there are some great deals there. I went back and read your post about shoes. If it were up to me, we would be a “no shoes in the house” family, but my husband was raised on a ranch and wears boots from the time he gets up in the morning until he gets ready for bed. My solution was wood floors. I do have a few large rugs, but for the most part, I only have wood. I like to respect friends who have a, no shoe policy, but sometimes it’s just inconvenient, especially if they don’t have a chair or bench close by to put your shoes back on. Enjoy your trip, Jennifer!! Hugs, Barb
… enjoy your trip …so glad jordan made it back ok as well as your brother from their hike…sounds like they had quite the adventure!!!!!
Hi Jennifer! That hiking story is so frightening! I’m glad they made it back ok! You’re the 2nd blog I’ve read this morning that had to do with flying. I haven’t flown in 28 years! But, recently my husband and I have entertained the idea of taking a trip and flying. I’m already nervous! I hope you have a great trip 🙂
I would have been in such a panic if I realised I was lost in such a remote place! Thank goodness for good old fashioned maps eh? You don’t need a GPS signal for them to work.
Hope you have a good trip and that the weather is better than forecasted!
