It was Hard to Decide

Friends joining: Giggles, Joyfull, and several more through comments (check them out)

Welcome to Friday with Friends! Are you a beach person or a mountain person?? I have to admit I thought quite a bit about this one myself:) I once posted about finally admitting I am a city girl…as “romantic” as it might seem to be a fresh-faced, country girl – I just am not. I thought somewhat the same about loving the mountains – the green open spaces, gorgeous changing leaves and fresh air…all of which are wonderful. But, if I’m honest with myself…I love the water. OK – let me clarify one thing…I do NOT swim in the ocean (gross!) but I do love the water….and being at the beach!!

I love the sound of the waves. I love the seagulls and the sandpipers. I love the sun on the horizon – and especially watching it fade out of view. I love the sand on my feet.

I also love the memories that the beach brings to mind – not only memories with my family when I was younger but wonderful times at the beach with my own little ones! My dad used to rent a huge house at the beach when our children were small and we would all spend a week together at the beach.

Here is fair-haired Tyler enjoying the beach from my favorite spot……under the umbrella. I know its goofy – I love the beach but not the sun! True. Give me a huge beach umbrella and a huge cooler for cold drinks (make mine tea) and I’m fine with the beach. But really it is simply being by the water that I love!

This picture is also from the beach – down by the marina…which makes me feel every bit as relaxed, happy and peaceful as the ocean does. This is Hilton Head – definitely one of my favorite places to be! Hubbie and I love to dream – its fun! – and our dreams always include a spot at Hilton Head….

oh, and maybe one of these!!!!

If you are joining us today – be sure to let me know and I will link you in!! Have a wonderful Friday, friends!!

  1. HI JENN,
I LOVE THE MOUNTAINS TOO, AND THEY SPEAK PEACE AND SERENITY TO ME AS WELL, BUT OUR REAL LOVE OF THE BEACH STARTED WHEN MY SON WAS ABOUT 14 OR 15 AND HE WENT TO VISIT A FRIEND AND HER FAMILY WHO WAS STAYING IN A RELATIVES CONDO AT THE BEACH, AND HE JUST RAVED ABOUT IT AND SAID HE THOUGHT THEY RENTED IT OUT, SO I CALLED THE MOM AND ASKED HER AND SHE SAID THEY DID RENT IT BUT ONLY SUN. EVE THRU FRI. MORN CAUSE SOME FAMILY MEMBER USED IT EVERY WEEKEND, AND SHE GAVE ME HER SISTER'S PHONE NUMBER CAUSE THEY WERE THE ONES WHO OWNED IT.THUS STARTED MANY WONDERFUL YEARS OF VACATIONS AT THE BEACH, AND SHORT DRIVES TO AND FROM VACATION. GOING TO THE MOUNTAINS WERE 8-14 HR. DRIVES JUST TO GET THERE AND WERE FUN AND SCENIC VACATIONS BUT TIRING WITH ALL THE DRIVING.
BEING AT THE BEACH WAS THE MOST RELAXING VACATION YOU COULD EVER TAKE. I FEEL SO CLOSE TO THE LORD WHEN I AM THERE TOO BECAUSE OF THE AWE AND WONDER OF HIS BEAUTIFUL CREATIONS, JUST FILLS MY CUP!!
WE WENT LAST YEAR JUST THE 2 OF US, FOR THE FIRST TIME, AND WE FELT LIKE WE HAD DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN.
NOT SURPRISED YOU ENJOY IT SO MUCH TOO!! NICE PICS TOO, SO CUTE OF TYLER…KNOW THAT IS A PRECIOUS MEMORY FOR SURE.
HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY AND WEEKEND.
DO YOU KNOW THE SUBJECT FOR NEXT WEEK YET, CAUSE I WOULD WRITE SOMETHING IF IT WERE EARLIER IN THE WEEK.
    LOVE AND BLESSINGS HON,
    NELLIE

  2. Oh Jennifer the more I read your blog the more I realize just how much we are kindred spirits. This could have been me writing…I too LOVE the beach, LOVE the water, love the birds, the relaxation, etc. I don't like sitting in the sun anymore (sure did when I was younger) and definitely prefer my umbrella. I use to take my kids at least once a week when they were young, sometimes more. I'd drag my little chair down to the water and plant myself right there with my feet in the water and read my book while they ran and played around me. We were all as brown as berries. Then there were the bon fires at night with hot dogs and marshmellows. Such wonderful wonderful memories. We'd spend at least 3 or 4 days down there every summer when Mel was young at either a beach house or right at a hotel. BUT…when I was girl growing up we had a cabin in the mountains. We'd fish, read, play games (no TV) and cards, go on hikes and laze the summers away. It was WONDERFUL….and in the winter we'd sled, and ski and have snow ball fights.. It always smelled soo wonderful up there. And yet at the end of the day, I prefer the beach. It is what is nice about where we live in So. California. We are about an hour or so from both the beach and the mountains so it is easy to enjoy both. GREAT idea for a post. ENJOY your week-end! Hugs, Deb

  3. I too had a hard time deciding. I am currently at the beach – St Augustine, FL and having a great time. I admit though, I get all into it, full sun (with sunscreen of course), sand, waves, water, and love watching my boys and others just enjoying themselves. This beach life is only for a day or two, I think my heart is in the mountains though! Loved learing and reading about your special memories.
Have a great weekend…we've already done the beach this morning, now headed to the pool!!

  4. We are talking about heading to the hills just to get some cooler temps. lol We love the mtns. and one of our favorite places is HH Island.
Talked about it this morning, in fact. Just too hot to go now.
    Take care!

  5. Sorry I couldn't join this week. For me, it is a toss up. We go to the beach more these days, but when our kids were younger and we were camping more, the mountains were our usual destination. Especially in summer, out tents and our first camper did not have a/c. So, the coolness of the mountains was very inviting!

  6. I've never been to a coastal beach, but I'd love to go. I've just barely been into the mountains when dh and I took a day trip when we lived about three hours or so away from them–that was so cool!

  7. ok..I missed it again!!!! uuugghhh…sorry!
I love reading about your love for the water! 🙂 Especially that you don't like to go in the water and you don't like the sun!! funny!!! I do love the things that you love though too. But…….
my heart is in the mountains!!!! I have wonderful memories in the mountains of Montana! 🙂 Breathtaking views, horseback riding on the mountain, sitting out on a huge rock and feeling the breeze. Wild flowers growing around, cherry picking, feeding and milking the goats, and just lying in the hammock! Not a care in the world!
    Thanks for sharing wonderful memories!

  8. Hey, my dearest friend! The reason we have been life long friends is that we truly connect. You know that I LOVE the beach for all the reasons you mentioned. And was a part of the reason we moved to the Virginia Beach area. We are getting ready to go to the beach now (even with the temp hitting 105). As you know, my door is always open to you and the family. So lets set a date and get those polished toes of yours wiggling in the sand!!!

  9. Hi Jennifer,
Just came across your blog, it is very inspiring. Firstly, i love the beach even though I live in the middle of the prairies of Southern Alberta and at times I imagine the blowing wheat fields are waves of ocean.
Secondly, I currently have a 17 year old daughter battling glioblastoma multiforme and I often wonder how I will ever get through this. I trust God's plan is sovereign but at times as mother, my heart aches so much it is hard to catch my breathe. My daughter shares her story with other youth, saying that if God does not chose to heal her, she will not be healed. Thank you for your candid story, it gives me hope.
