Share Four Somethings: May 2024

And just like that, I missed posting on Thursday.  I kept putting it off…and putting off (I think they call it procrastination but why put a name to it) and before I knew it, Sunday evening had arrived.  Time to get Monday’s post ready – but yet – I still had not done Thursday’s post.  Well, here it is.  Thursday’s post and my monthly Share Four Somethings.  Yes, I am late for that as well (the link-up is here) but I’m going to write it anyways.  Good grief.  Let me get started before my efforts are derailed again.  This past month, I have:

loved – being outside!  The pollen seems to be under control and the weather has been lovely.  It is not “officially” summer but Memorial Day weekend certainly makes it feel that way and the weather this weekend did not disappoint.  It was summer vibes all around.  I have enjoyed eating outside several times this month.  Hubby and I had our first visit to (one of) the neighborhood soft serve ice cream spots.  We have spent many (or most) evenings on the front porch. And I had a great time downtown last week.  (I blogged about that here last week, if you missed.)  In my humble opinion, life is just more fun outside.  In the sunshine.  And this is the time of year for it!!

A few other things I have beein loving this month:  white pizza with sundried tomatoes (at a new to us pizza/burger spot); riding the train downtown; admiring Union Station…it has been quite awhile since I have been there; a bit of an updated look on our patio; and finding some new dresses recently.  My summer wardrobe was in need of some pieces.

tried to improve – my curls…or, at least, my morning fight with my curls.  They had really started growing out and each morning was another struggle trying to get my hair to look “right.”  I (sorta) thought I needed a cut but was so hestitant after having waited what seemed so long for my hair to regrow.  Anyhoo, I bit the bullet (as they say) and went for a haircut.  It was a disaster!!  I truthfully have no idea what went wrong.  I went to the same stylist I have been going to for years.  She even did my first “post treatment” cut and shaped my curls so nicely.  I showed her photos.  I did all the things.  But the end result was not pretty.  At all.  And definitely not what I expected.  I don’t know what else to say….other than, it will grow back.  This I know.

accomplished – another successful Family Fun Night.  This one my brother suggested…and it was a hit!  We went to Cirque de Soleil. Apparently there over 20 “versions” or perfermances of the Cirque (who knew?) but we went to Corteo.  I have to admit, I was a bit confused in the beginning.  A lot of it was in Italian but that was not even the confusing part.  I was thinking there was a story that I needed to follow (like a play or something similar) but there wasn’t.  At least, I don’t think there was??  Supposedly Corteo is a clown but, honestly, I did not even get that part.  He didn’t look like a clown.  But, all that to say, the acts, or performances,  were awe-inspiring.  I was mesmerized.  I am doing a terrible job of explaining this but, believe me, it was a great show.  One I would highly recommend and would love to see another one!  With this evening under our belt, we have successfully managed to plan and enjoy a Family Fun Night once a month since January.  High five to us!

noticed – very little acknowledgement of Memorial Day in my area.  Especially in my neighborhood.  It really seems like “just another” free day from work and school.  However, there is one small town just a couple miles from my house.  I shop there and eat there often.  I drive through there (on Main Street) many times a week.  And they make Main Street look so nice for each holiday.  Earlier last week, they put flags on all the lampposts and they included memorial tribute banners on every other pole as well.  Photos of local service members.  Some active duty and others being remembered by family members.  It looks so festive.  And poignant.  I wish I had a photo – but pictures are not my strong point.

Whether your town recognizes Memorial Day or not.  Whether you fly your own flag – or not.  I hope you have a nice Memorial Day.  I’m glad you stopped by…..better late than never for this post.  Oh well. I’m glad I will have these series of posts to revisit and remember highlights throughout the year.  May was a good month.  It is one of my favorites.  June looks to be a full month as well.  In fact, I will be away for the first part of the month and leave this weekend.  I have yet to decide if I will take my computer with me…and/or if I will blog while I am gone.  I will be back here this Thursday though…so please stop by again.  Until then – have a wonderful week ahead, my friends!

  1. SO good to see your post up! I’ve missed you. xx
I understand what you are saying about Memorial Day becoming “just another day” to so many. Fortunately we live in a small community…in fact, most of our area is rural. But there are still several who do remembering the reason for this holiday.
Your Family Fun Night sounds like lots of fun!
I could have cried when I read about your trip to the hairstylist and how your haircut turned out. I’m so sorry.

    1. Hooray for those remembering the holiday! Thanks for the sympathy with the haircut. I felt like I could have cried…yet, now that I think that, it seems silly!!:)

  2. It is so rare to see a flag flying where I live! Unless there is a Royal event or a big football tournament like the World Cup. It is easy for the original reason for the extra day off to be forgotten isn’t it? In fact today is a Bank Holiday here and I have no idea how this date got chosen!
We are away next week too. Needing to brush up on my (very poor) Spanish as we are heading for one of the Balearic Islands and I always like to try a tiny bit of conversation when we travel overseas. It may just be hello, goodbye, thank you, please or two glasses of Sangria but I like to give it a go!

    1. Deb – I don’t think I have heard of the Balearic Islands. Shame on me but I’m going to find those on a map just now! I hope you have a great trip…and don’t end up with the wrong drink (or food) when you order!!:) Enjoy your Bank Holiday!!

  3. It’s so sad that so many no longer acknowledge Memorial Day. My American flag is proudly flying today that’s for sure. I’m sorry to hear your hair appointment didn’t go as planned. Two summers ago I went for a regular trim and left it with it completely chopped! I was not happy, but it did eventually grow out. Like you, I love this time of year and I love being outside. Life is more fun outside and the sunshine makes everything better! June will be a busy month for us, as well. We are leaving for Florida next week and will return in mid-June. I’m so looking forward to getting away for a vacation. Happy Memorial Day! We are grilling later this evening and the sun is supposed to come out… Yay!!

    1. Completely chopped. That about sums me up!! Ugh…but it is better already. Sorta. Enjoy that grilling later today. So glad you stopped by, Julia!

  4. Hello! I don’t care if you post late! Just keep posting! Sorry about the haircut. I had one of those once, in high school, of all things. It was…bad. And you are right. It will grow back. We have some beautiful flags all lined up in an empty lot down the road. I saw a man in his uniform from years ago setting them up, and I got teary-eyed. I wonder if we will have that in the years from now. I certainly hope so. Have a cozy day and a blessed evening, my friend.

    1. The memories of those bad haircuts – they stick with us for years. Decades. Don’t they?? So glad it grows back:) I hope your day is cozy as well!!

  5. We saw Corteo last year and while I enjoyed it a lot I found it a bit confusing too because we had read about the storyline ahead of time.. apparently the clown is envisioning his funeral/burial taking place amidst a carnival like celebration of his life while also enjoying the tenderness of the angels.
We just went out for our first soft serve ice cream treats this weekend! We have a place near us that specializes in soft serve with so many different flavors, toppings, and mix-ins that it’s often overwhelming to pick.

  6. I’m ok with my hair at the moment but I do cringe when old photos come out and I see the styles I wore back then.
We are off to Costa Dorada in Spain on Friday for a week. Hope you enjoy your holiday too.
Hope your memorial day was special for you.

  7. Lol, your post was not that late…mine posted in June (I think, or late May). These days I don’t seem to have a concept of time. I finally found someone new to cut my hair, I was tired of Great Clips and my haircut being different every single time. I have curls as well, one side flips under, the other flips out, plus a cowlick…all the things. I had the best haircut ever. The second time I went back to her was the same. I am really HOPING that she continues to be a good fit. She works from her house and I am fine with supporting her small business, and going to her home. It beats Great Clips and isn’t that much more expensive. I hope your next cut goes better for you. And,I hope you are doing well. I have been slammed with things lately and not getting to other blogs that often.
