Two New Traditions

Happy Hump Day – the one right in between Christmas and the new year!  I’ve heard some folks really don’t like this week but, personally, I thoroughly enjoy it.  And need it.  I love(!!) new beginnings and, yes, next week is one of the best (new week, new month, new year, oh wow)! As much as I am ready to jump in with both feet, these days following Christmas allow me to both recharge and resettle my soul before I dash into the awaiting new year!  And, boy, am I ready to dash:)  I have so many thoughts, plans, goals and best of intentions for the weeks and months ahead.  I am eager to say goodbye to 2021 and to start with the fresh, clean slate that a new year offers.

Fresh ideas and a few new goals also apply to this blog.  One thing to note is a new posting schedule.  I will be posting Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays beginning – well, today!  Mondays will continue to be a short post…just to say hello and share a verse for the week.  Most of my chattiness will be on Wednesdays and Fridays.  Of course, I would love for you to stop by throughout the week, or maybe you will find one day that works well for you and will, at least, stop by weekly.  If you can, leave a quick message.  I so enjoy connecting with each of you!

This Friday, I hope to share a few more of my goals, plans – resolutions:) – for next year.  Do you think about them?  Have any fresh ones for 2022?  Come back and share on Friday.  Until then….let me share two of my new “favorites” from this year’s Christmas.

GRINCH COOKIES.  The ladies’ Christmas party at church this year included a cookie exchange.  Every year I want to host a cookie exchange at my house.  But, it hasn’t happened.  Sigh.  So, I was excited when I heard this one announced.  I scrolled my Pinterest boards for something new and landed on Grinch Cookies.  Bright green with red M&MS!  Came out just like the photo (which is always a plus) and they were delicious.  Definitely adding them to my holiday cookie must-haves!

GNOMES.  We made gnomes on Christmas Eve.  As in, we did crafts.  We are not crafty folks and this was definitely a first for us.  It had the potential to go either way but I am happy to say that everyone had a great time.  And the gnomes are cute.  By the time I decided to give this a try, I could not find white “faux fur” anywhere…so, our gnomes have black beards!  I don’t know that we will make gnomes every year but doing “a craft” together is definitely going to be repeated.

This is also the year we stayed home all day on Christmas Day.  And, it worked.  Such a nice day.  I pray that yours was as well.  New traditions or the well-honored ones that have lasted for years.  I love those things that make our holidays as unique as each of our families.  Savor the memories…and watch out 2022.  We’re coming at you!

  1. Yay for blog posting schedules! This has changed my life and I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner. I love that gnome! What a fun thing to do together on a holiday. I’m glad to read you had a nice Christmas. Ours was as well, even though it was a little sad because my Drew had to work that night and couldn’t be with us most of that day. It caught me off guard! I wish I’d been slightly prepared for that, but it shocked both my husband and me. It upset Drew as well and it was just a bittersweet day, with bits of laughter mixed in with tears. I also love this week and have enjoyed the downtime. It was much needed!

  2. I seriously considered hosting a cookie exchange this year, too, but didn’t pull the trigger. Maybe next year… The craft tradition sounds like a great idea! Looking forward to reading your posts in 2022! I really like your blog :).

    1. Thanks so much for your kind comment. I look forward to visiting back and forth. And, yes, really need to make that cookie exchange happen. I love cookies!!:)

  3. It’s a funny time between Christmas and New Year isn’t it? This has definitely been a year of ups and downs but I am oh so grateful for the good times that the last 12 months brought. I like the sound of a cookie exchange, I love to find new recipes. Your gnome is so cute (and original with his black beard!)
Wishing you a healthy and happy new year!

    1. I enjoy new recipes as well – especially new cookie recipes!!:) (I’ve rarely met a cookie that I did not like!) Happy New Year, Deb!
