Well, here we are at the end of another month. Well, almost. There is almost another full week of April left but this is the last weekend, and so that means it is time for my monthly Share Four Somethings post. The link-up begins tomorrow and that will be the last Saturday of April. This has been a full month. I rather hate to see it go:) Nevertheless, time to jump into sharing four somethings. In April, something….
I LOVED – was spring’s arrival. The grass turning green and even the mowing season started. I love the look (and the smell) of fresh cut grass! We do open the back door every morning but aren’t able to leave the house “open” too much these days as the pollen has definitely arrived, but I’m okay with it. All things spring!! We powerwashed the porch and got our pots filled with pretty color. The back deck is also ready for spring and we have already enjoyed many of cup of coffee in the spring sunshine.
I have also loved the return to ladies’ Bible study on Tuesday mornings, as well as several evenings out with friends for birthday celebrations. April is a month for birthdays around here… including my own. Yesterday my husband took me to my favorite antique mall. A birthday treat:) Earlier this week, a friend took me to Uncle Julio’s for dinner. To our surprise, it was Taco Tuesday. We shared a taco board (I think they called it). Served much like fajitas but with all you need to create your own tacos. It was delish and super affordable. I only mention that (the price) in case you are looking for something yummy to try!
THAT SUSTAINED ME – (or that, at least, has encouraged me) would be my friendships. I have many different kinds of friends…and friendships. Each one sincerely is a blessing to me. Friendships, like most relationships, require effort. But that effort (not a chore…) is well worth it and I so appreciate those who “put forth the effort” as a friend towards me!
I AM CARRYING FORWARD – my commitment to walking daily. I have done well in April and I can tell the difference. Those around me have noticed a difference. A little in my appearance but, more so, in my attitude. My mental health, if you will. Morning sunshine in my face, sneakers on and getting those steps in makes for one happy camper over here!
I AM MAKING SPACE FOR – new wall decor/art work. Well, little by little. I’m wanting to refresh some of the walls around here. But it is a slow process as I have a hard time finding things I like when I am purposely looking for them. No doubt, I will stumble on things “when I least expect it,” or that is how it always seems. Truth be told, I don’t know exactly what I am looking for….just not more standard issue Hobby Lobby. Nothing wrong with Hobby Lobby (please, don’t hate) but not only do I have enough of it but I also want my home to look more “us” than curated. We also have a few things that are just no longer my style. Styles and tastes change, right? My husband struggles with this reality…but, for me, it is true. For instance, so glad we no longer have a plaid couch! We’ve had two actually. Loved them when we had them but my tastes change.
And, that’s a wrap. What have you been loving in April? Do you love the spring? I know many are tormented by the pollen. If that’s you, I am sorry. I can only imagine how miserable that must be. I just have to be outside in the spring! Anything special sustaining you lately? Let me know in the comments. I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead. As always, thanks for stopping by today!
Oh, I was so happy to lose the leather sectional in my den. Hubby loved it and had created a deep dent on the arm where he always sat. I decided it was too huge, too uncomfortable, and I no longer wanted a brown couch. So, it went. I’m pretty happy about that. Not all change is bad, right? Spring has sprung here, too, and I will be mowing weekly until October, I’m sure!
I am glad spring is here as well! Friendships are so special if you can have that safe connection for sure. 🙂 I love that. I often desire that more. As a Pastor’s wife it has been hard for me sadly, but I do have one that I truly am thankful for. She is more a mentor truly. I am still very thankful for her.
Things do change and taste as well. I am a hobby lobby person and I also love Kirklands. My home has a lot it with other unique pieces spread throughout. I think adding antique, unique or vintage with those things if they mesh well can curate a home lovely. Or it has for me. I hope you have fun curating your haven more for you in this season of life. I had the plaid couch too!! So, glad it is gone. 🙂 Now, I have the gray couch (you know gray was the thing) and while I would like something different it is only 5 years old and in excellent condition so I will be content. 🙂
I need to get back to walking. Mentally it does me a world of good.
Yay YOU for walking more. We walk around our yard right after breakfast and I agree, that sunshine on my face is such a great way to start the day. We have our backdoor open while we eat breakfast and that is a treat, too. Soon the flies will keep us from enjoying that.
I am certain you are blessing to those you call friends. I have had friends for seasons but am much more a loner and introvert than an extrovert. Sounds like April was full of opportunities to celebrate friendships and YOUR BIRTHDAY.
I have quite a bit of HL decor, too, but have begun replacing it with things that represent the life we have lead. Photos of vacations, things I have painted or crafted. The house is becoming much more US. Hope you find the perfect pieces for your walls.
Spring has sprung here, too, and we have been blessed with absolutely beautiful weather. The pollen isn’t too bad in my neck of the woods for which I’m grateful. I’m glad that walking is working out for you physically and mentally. I’m glad that you’re seeing the fruit of well watered (so to speak) friendships and that they are blooming. One can really tell that in one’s birthday month, right? I hope your weekend is a great one!
Four things??? First, like you, I’m thrilled to be back in my Women’s Bible Study. I missed it so much while out waiting for the surgery. #2 I love feeling good and having my “plumbing working” like it should. Thank the Lord for the successul surgery. #3 Being back in the kitchen, doing what I love. #4 Pulling out the watercolors and painting some more cards. And I will add #5. Just loving my Lord and his lovingkindness to me every day.
Thanks for sharing and letting us share too.
I am glad for the 60s and low 70s that spring brings, but not happy for the pollen making its appearance. April brought visits with long distance friends who are more like family, annual eye exams (still have ‘boring’ eyes although I have the start of cataracts), and the return of the hummingbirds and bunnies to our yard. Well done on resuming your morning walks, Jennifer! I can’t wait until my knee allows me to walk and to walk faster than a snail’s pace. Have a fabulous weekend.
Hello Jennifer! Your flowers are gorgeous! Spring is such a beautiful time of the year. Each year I am amazed at all of the different shades of green in nature…and loving each and every one of them.
Now that the weather has broken in our neck of the woods, I’ve been spending time every day out in my flowers. Being in the fresh air and sunshine has also made a difference for me, like you mentioned, in my attitude. The fresh air and sunshine, combined with the hard work that goes along with weeding and mulching and transplanting has really been good for my mental health.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead, my sweet friend. xx
Of course, our tastes change. I’m ready for some changes, but it takes me so long to do the changing that by the time I do it, my taste has changed AGAIN. I know what you mean about the Hobby Lobby look. I like local art and funky things mixed in with old treasures that tell a story.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Tastes do change over time. Looking forward to see what kind of wall art speaks to you and what you purchase.
Spring has been a mixed bag here.. most days it is to cold to open windows and our heat is still running.
Oh yes our tastes do change quite a bit with time. Though I definitely find mine change far more often than my husband’s; he’d happily keep everything in the house the same. Pollen and allergies do bother me but it’s a bother I’ll happily take on if it means spring has arrived.
I am super late to the link party. We had snow flurries this morning and it is currently 42 and rainy. I am more than ready for spring to stay. We have started thinking about what we are going to plant for the summer season. I love daily walks as well, but April was a mixed bag and I am currently in a flare-up with vertigo, so walking any distance has been hard. But, like you, it improves my mood so much (and has great health benefits). I hope you are doing well. Have a great weekend!
