Welcome to my blog and here we are at the end of another month. Time to wrap up the month of May and time for another installment of Share Four Somethings. It is hard to believe that last month I was recapping my trip to Nashville and, today as I type, I am getting ready for another vacation. Who am I?? Apparently travel is feast of famine for me…and this year is more on the feasting side:) But the weeks in between trips have been nice as well, so let’s push on with this month’s link-up. As always, the rest of the link-up can be found here starting tomorrow. Now,
some things I have loved – spring! Have I said that enough already? The weather has been beautiful. The pop-up storms have been exciting. The yard is as green and lush as it probably will be all year. The birds have been so happy. Spring has been a dandy. I have also loved having the house open for many days during the month. The airing out and blowing curtains make me happy. I have also been loving vegetables. We recently signed up for a weekly vegetable box delivery. Locally sourced and seasonal vegetables deliverd to my doorstep. I do enjoy a famer’s market but these deliveries have been wonderful. You can pick and choose what you want in your box and I have been purposely trying some new to me vegetables. Of course, I never fail to get some squash (something I really love!) but have tried eggplant, kale and just recently cabbage. I have no idea how to cook cabbage but my husband really enjoys it, so I thought I should at least give it a try.
some things I have learned – cruise vacations are not necessarily the cheapest way to travel. It would seem like they are easy to budget for – pay the price listed on the brochure and, bam, full vacation. Oh…not so. There is an extra fee, cost, surcharge for just about everything. Yes, I am going on a cruise next week. My friend and I chose this vacation/get away because we thought the price was very reasonable. Surprise! Our wallets are beginning to squeak at this point. And, trust me, there are many extras and add-ons that we have just let go. The nickel and diming has become almost comical. I suppose I should have known better. I’m sure those who cruise a lot just accept it as part of the package, but I am learning, that is for sure. Extra fees aside, I am excited for this chance to get away for several days. My friend has surgery the week after we get back and will be “off her feet (or foot)” for most of the summer. So, we intend to make the most of this time beforehand!!
some things that went well – my husband had a terrible case of poison ivy a couple of weeks ago. We tried all sorts of things here at home. Those things did not go well. However, he finally went to the doctor for a steriod injection. Thankful for quick healing afterwards. The ivy he was trying to pull out of our azalea bush has already grown back. We cannot seem to kill the entire plant. But everytime he tries, he gets the rash. Ugh. I have to admit that I am, apparently (I guess), not allergic to poison ivy. Have never had it once. I do, however, struggle with motion sickness. Sea sickness. But I was able to get the patches for my trip. Was not sure where I was going to get a prescription for those, but it occured to me that I had gotten a patch for my trip to Panama last year (from my oncologist) and maybe, just maybe, there were refills. Well, yes there were. I was thrilled. So did not want to make an urgent care visit just for a prescription. Why aren’t those patches over the counter anyways??
something I need to let go of – bright colors in my closet. I am in process of revamping my wardrobe. (Is revamping a word?) I have made huge progress and really enjoy walking into my closet. Really trying to define my style. And the wild array of bright colors in my closet need to go. It is a work in progress but I am excited about the end product.
And, that’s a wrap. I hope everyone has a great weekend. The plan is to post again on Monday but that is assuming all trip preparations are complete. Not sure about any other posts next week. But I hope you will stop by…even if just to say hello. I will try to get a photo or ten while I am away. We can talk vacations when I return. As always, I’m so glad you stopped by today.
I hope you have a wonderful time on your trip! I had no idea that sea sickness patches weren’t offered over the counter. That does seem odd you’d need a prescription for them but I guess they are a pretty strong medication. That delivery box subscription sounds like a great way to try some new vegetables. We like to use cabbage in our egg roll in a bowl recipe, in cole slaw, or even just roasted (and seasoned) in the oven– all of which I tend to Google recipes for.
It sounds like you had a wonderful May. I love cabbage — I add it to salad but mostly steam or stir fry it. I am glad you were able to get your motion sickness patches. Enjoy your weekend, Jennifer.
I hope you have a great time on your cruise! It sounds like it will be fun. I guess you’ve accepted the nickeling and diming. That is too bad but I guess not surprising. I hope the motion sickness pills work and that you feel great on the trip. Your husband’s poison ivy rash sounds awful- glad he found some relief. Glad you are enjoying all the fresh vegetables you’re getting. Hoping my garden produces some later this summer… Have a great trip and we’ll “see” you in blogland when you return and tell us all the highlights :).
OOoh I had terrible sea sickness on my honeymoon cruise which was in the middle of hurricane season! I wish patches had been available at that time. Thank goodness you have a refill on yours, that was a stroke of good fortune. Have a great vacay!
Glad you are having a nice Spring. Enjoy your cruise. My son Adam, Gabby and James are going on one in June. This will be their 3rd cruise. They really like them. They go with her sister and family. Sorry about your husbands poison ivy. Glad the shot helped. Also glad you got some patches for your cruise. That is interesting about your closet. I know I have a lot of bright colors in mine. Take care.
Cabbage: cole slaw is my go-to with this veggie, but my husband can’t have it, so I only have it in restaurants these days.
I wore one of those patches for sea sickness on my cruise to Alaska years ago and it was wonderful! We even had one especially rough day at sea and I handled it with no problems at all. Yes, they should be over-the-counter.
Enjoy your trip!
How wonderful and have fun on your cruise! I have only been on one – years ago – and it was a memorable and fun experience. Good idea to do all this before your friend has her back surgery, and I wish her a speedy recovery afterwards. I know all about feast or famine 🙂 Our garden is looking so green with all this rain we have been having. Lovely liquid sunshine for the farmers too and hope they haven’t had too much rain. I keep hearing how good these veggie deliveries are. Sounds so convenient! We used to have Blue Apron and it introduced us to meals but also veggies that we wouldn’t have tried normally. It made us more adventurous, so since we finished, we seem to have gone back to favorites with a few surprise choices 🙂 It’s good that you can choose what you want in your delivery. Oh boy, my husband knows all about poison ivy and just told him as he is sitting on the other couch. We both send your hubby our utmost sympathy and hope he will be 100 percent soon. Agree, those plants are hard to get rid of! I’m doing the clean-out closet thing too. I find it hard to get rid of some old favorites but in the bag for the box they go. Have a wonderful time on your vacation Jennifer. I am so excited for you and look forward to reading all about it when you get back. Sending hugs!
The cruise doctor could probably give you some free too.
Have fun.
Why are you getting rid of colorful clothes?
I LOVE cabbage too.

I have never been on a cruise. We have friends that go a lot and swear by them, but yes, there are hidden fees, such as WIFI. Anyways, another great post. smiles
I have never done a cruise. I look forward to hearing about where you went and how it went! I hope you have a great time with your friend.
That is a good warning on the cruising. I thought it was the cost – it does always seem super cheap! But I guess that’s where they make the money…#ShareFourSomethings
I am not a fan of cruises. And I do believe they are too expensive and while they are vacations they don’t allow you to see and explore a city/country properly.
Sorry to hear about your husband and the poison ivy.. eek.
Why no more bright colors?
Have a wonderful trip! I’ve never been on a cruise but I have a friend who goes on at least one a year. I know you get to see a lot of places in one go but I like to stay in one place and really explore that area. I’m also not a lover of crowds and those ships look enormous! How lovely that you get to spend a week with your friend while she is still mobile before her surgery.
Good luck with the wardrobe declutter, hope you have fun refreshing it with new colour palettes!
Well, it looks as though I am a bit late to the party here. I stopped by on Friday morning, but I must have been too early. Anyway, I hope you will enjoy your cruise. Our son and daughter-in-law did a cruise last year for their silver wedding anniversary and they booked it through a travel agency, which did take care of a few of those extra fees, but there were still a few that came up.
Have a wondeful time away with your friend, enjoy the cruise and make some good memories together.
I imagine you are cruising as I type this. Hope it has been a delightful experience. Not sure how we managed not to be nickel and dimed to death on ours. We did pay for a package that was called Have it All and it rolled tips and other charges into the package.
Hope you don’t purge all of your bright colors. I think color is so uplifting!!
