ONE – we celebrated Independence Day. Obviously. It was a different kind of “celebrating” for us as our friends (where we usually spend the afternoon and evening) were dealing with a death in the family. So it was simple and just Hubby, me and Jordan. Jordan said I could share his picture which is not only unusual (he agrees to that about as often as I do) but I thought it was also interesting that the last “Three Things” weekend review I did was in April and included his picture. I’m sure these are the only two pictures of have of him in the last three months. Good grief. With his moving getting closer and closer, I really need to be taking more photos. We did see fireworks but they were a tad bit far away. Or maybe it just felt that way since we usually see them from 100 feet away.
On a side note, there are firework displays all over the place. There is no shortage of places to go and see – and hear! – all the pyrotechnics you want. That being said, I just do not see the need to sell fireworks at those yellow stands in the grocery store parking lots. It is quite apparent that those who buy their own fireworks have no repect for others. The set them off (in our area) on multiple nights, before and after the Fourth, and do so at all hours. Saturday night (the 5th!), someone in my neighborhood set them off from 10:15 to almost 11:00!! Over and over and over. To say I was a bit irritated would be huge understatement.
TWO – Before the fireworks, we thought a good burger and some fries sounded about as red, white and blue as we were going to get. We do not have a grill, so thought we would go out for said burgers and chose Red Robin. Red Robin was in the parking lot where we were going to put out our chairs for the fireworks. We had two burgers (with fries…that were barely warm) and one glass of ice tea. And paid $41 for it. What?? I have no idea why I was so shocked but I was indeed. And then I was put out. Just being honest. Why had we wasted so much money?? Those type of things can really ruin an evening for me. But I did my best and think we all enjoyed the rest of the night. By the way, I say “we” because when momma’s attitude goes south, well, you know…… Sad but true. I really should move on.
THREE – The entire weekend was not all fireworks and sparklers. But the rest of it was rather routine. We did work in the yard a bit. The humidity was quite low one day and we took full advantage of it. Spent a lot of time outside. Our potted flowers from the spring were looking rather pekid so we replaced those with some heat tolerant sun-loving ones. Fresh porch flowers always look nice. Put a few new ones in the ground out back as well. And got the grass cut. Surprisingly, the grass throughout the neighborhood is still green. Usually brown by now and probably will be soon, but we will enjoy the green for now. And that about wraps up the excitement of our weekend:)
I think this is a good place to end. My calendar looks full but very enjoyable for the week ahead. I hope yours will be nice as well. My good friend has her last chemo treatment on Friday. YAY!! I am so happy for her. We definitely plan to celebrate over dinner that evening! That milestone, in itself, makes it a good week. Thanks for stopping by, my friends!!
It sounds like you had a full Independence Day and weekend, Jennifer. We stayed home and watched A Capitol Fourth. I enjoyed the DC fireworks from the comfort of my air-conditioned home. I thought the DC fireworks were really good this year. We had one loud boom in our neighborhood around 10 PM on the 4th and that was it. It actually sounded more like a cannon. I hope you have a wonderful week.
It does seem like the ones in the neighborhood sound more like cannons. Why are they so loud?? We had more (not as many, mind you) last night. Surely they are done now!! Happy Monday to you, Robin!
My friend who is a night owl was up watching a movie on July 3rd until 1:00 am and said that people were doing their own fireworks that late at that hour! It’s unbelievable and sounds like it spans more than one region of the US! Regarding Red Robin, ya’ll need to head to your nearest Chili’s- ours has $10.99 deals where you get a soft drink, burger and fries for, you guessed it, $10.99. Your Chili’s may be priced higher since overall the cost of living is higher there I’d imagine. But they still may have pretty good deals? Something to check out anyway. I’m so sorry for your friends’ loss. Have a great week!
One in the morning – that is ridiculous!! But I won’t get started again:( Thanks for the Chili’s suggestion. I will certainly be looking for deals and checking prices better before choosing a bite to eat! Have a great week, Maria!
We also had a death in the family this weekend. My uncle passed on the 4th. You are correct, there are fireworks everywhere! I could hear them long after I went to bed! LOL! Red Robin is one of my favorite burger joints! LOL! I don’t get there much as it is almost 2 hours away. I will have some yard work to do in a few weeks. The dirt has to settle in my new flower bed before I plant. I’m not very creative so not really looking forward to it. I hope you have a great week even though it is a busy one!
Jennifer, I understand your frustration over the price paid for the food. I have to wonder if the prices are due to inflation or if vendors see it as a way to make more money.
Loved the picture of Jordan. Still praying for you, my friend. xx
Red Robin was my family’s usual place to celebrate special occasions, but the only location they have in my current town has had bad service and the AC has been terribly cold, so I haven’t been back there in 3 years. With the price you had to pay, well, I don’t plan to go there any more.
I wonder, too, why those fireworks businesses in tents all over town are legal, since so many people get injured when they use them. I much prefer watching fireworks on TV these days.
Enjoyed your post and how you celebrated the 4th. Oh my, Red Robin….can you believe it. The only time we have been going out to eat is when we are gifted with a “food gift card”. Fast food is not cheap either!!! Years ago I could buy a weeks groceries for the price of a meal at a fast food.
The noice of fireworks lasted way to long where we live…we closed up all the windows and so thankful we don’t have have little dog as she was so afraid of the noise.
Have a great week!’

So happy you can celebrate your friend’s final chemo treatment, Jennifer. How blessed she is to have you walk alongside her during this difficult season.
Happy 4th! And let’s hear it for restaurant prices that used to be affordable.
I am so glad you dropped by my blog. I was out of town for the 4th so I really unplugged.
I know what you mean about prices. We stopped at a 5 guys with the grands one day and nearly passed out from sticker shock. I almost had to chuckle at my husband’s reaction. Don’t tell him that. The cashier went on and on about how much her grocery bill had been that weekend so he never go the ability to complain about the price and feel better about it.
OH yes, we get people setting off fireworks at all hours of the night here too. Your friends last chemo treatment sounds like a wonderful reason to celebrate!
we had a super quiet Fourth and that’s fine by me. My family came over for burgers and fries in the afternoon. I did not hear fireworks this year.
Fireworks seem to get louder and louder each year sadly. I do enjoy seeing the coloured lights but not so keen on the noise.
Hope your friends treatment went well on Friday and that you can both celebrate and enjoy your time together.
Treatment went well and we definitely had fun celebrating on Friday evening! Thanks much, Beverley!
