Happy Monday friends! I hope everyone had a nice weekend. It was another incredibly humid and muggy weekend but, overnight, a cool front has moved through and I think some beautiful late(ish) summer weather is on tap for the next few days ahead. Maybe for the rest of the month?? That would be a lovely transition into September…and all the “ber” months:) Public schools in our county started this morning so I suppose summer really is winding down. I think it is too soon but I won’t start whining (just yet). I was a bit disgusted with the all the Christmas aisles in Hobby Lobby the other day. I actually turned and walked out. I guess that is akin to whining. Sorry (a little).
For this morning, I am thrilled with a beautiful new morning. And new Monday! Let’s start the week with a daybook entry. I’m taking a bit of an abbreviated version. Some of the prompts on the regular, and the tad longer, version are so repetitive (as in, what I’m wearing) so I will just leave those off for a bit. Sometimes being a bit more concise – or laconic:) – is a good thing.
Outside my window. It is looking like late summer. Everything looks a bit hot, weary and spent. The grass is as brown as toast. I’m looking forward to a bit of a break this week. I’m sure the things outside my window will as well. I am a bit bored with the porch and the looks of things from the yard. I have to admit that I am ready for a new season there. I will be patient though.
Around the house. The morning sunshine is so pretty lately. Things are looking pretty much in order. We are working on a small project in one of the bathrooms. We are trying to replace the ceiling fan. Should be easy enough but we are not handy and we have no idea what we are doing. We might be at the point of calling in some help. I often wonder why we just don’t call help from the very beginning. Be it professional or simply a friend with the know-how, we need to know (and admit) our limitations. Sigh.
On the to-do list. Look up the number of a professional – lol. We have our monthly breakfast group this morning and, then, I need to gather up the things I am consigning later this week. It is time to drop off fall items. I usually miss this deadline each year (as it seems ridiculously early to be digging through my fall things) but I was determined this year. I made this appointment back in July (while browsing the patriotic decor)! Good grief.
On the menu this week. One thing, for sure, will be leftover spaghetti. We had some of the tastiest spaghetti a couple of days ago. My husband loved his because of the spicy sausage that I added. (Yes, I make two different pots of spaghetti – both sauce and noodles. It is essentially making two complete meals for one dinner. So we don’t have spaghetti too often but enjoy it when we do!) Not sure why mine was so good. Could it have been the chickpea pasta?? Dunno. My husband also requested lasagna which is unusual. Perhaps we are in an Italian frame of mind!
On my mind at the beginning of the week. Yesterday evening, just as we were getting out of church, storms went through the area. They were not exactly in the forecast but I was expecting them. They are inevitable when these cold fronts come in. There has not been much rain this week (a little here and there – but the kind that brings relief and even a sense of calm) but the storms always come. Figuratively speaking, life, which had been so stormy, has also been rather calm. Sunny even. I know storms, like the literal ones, are inevitable. More will come. I almost expect them. But I am grateful for the sunny days. Grateful for a feeling of peace of late. I don’t take these sunny days for granted.
What are you thankful for this morning? I’d love to hear. Maybe something as simple as a sunny morning, a good’s night rest or that first cup of coffee today. But if you’re day looks a bit cloudy, or even stormy, I pray you find peace as we begin this new week. Thanks for stopping by, friends.
Laconic blog post- nooooo! Bring on all the WORDS, lol! I was just thinking about making lasagna for dinner tonight- I think your husband convinced me that lasagna is the right choice, lol. (Boy, I’m funny today, aren’t I? (lol)) Good luck with your project. My husband is very handy- he has lots of tools and the know how to do a lot around the house. But he has never installed a ceiling fan. I also don’t take the sunny days, figuratively, for granted. I’m glad you’re in a season of sunshine right now. Have a great Monday!
Thanks, Maria!! Glad you got the laconic reference:) And, yes, lasagna for dinner sounds delish! Enjoy. Thanks for stopping by – and for your encouraging comment! Happy Monday!
Good luck with your ceiling fan project! Hopefully before too long, it has been completed. So true about the storms literally and figuratively in life! Happy Monday, Jennifer!
Thanks Robin. So glad you stopped by this morning…here’s to a great week ahead for both of us!!
Your weather sounds much like mine… only our cool down is taking us into the 80’s…LOL! Grass is toasty for sure! I agree, school is starting too early. Should wait until after Labor day. If I had to make two spaghettis I don’ t think I would cook at all. I used to love to cook but not so much anymore now that’s it’s just me. Hope you have a great week!
Thanks Monica – hope you have a good week as well!!
We are loving the weather today; much better than yesterday’s muggy soup of weather. While our local schools don’t start back until next week we did see all the buses out this morning practicing/getting to know their routes. Weirdly we haven’t been getting storms with our change of weather but we could really use the rain. We had such a wet spring and a really wet start to our summer but now I can’t remember the last time it really rained. I’m hoping to make up a lasagna myself this week using some squash and zucchini in it as I am running out of things to make with so much squash and zucchini.
Joanne, lasagna with squash and zucchini sounds like a great idea!! Thanks. And hooray for lovely weather!!:)
The morning sunshine coming into the house is the best thing i like.
Our gardens here are also looking a little tired and past their best. Quite often we get a really nice week or two of good weather at the start of September before Autumn sets in. Schools here don’t go back until the first week of September by which time I think the kids and the parents are ready for a bit of normality after a 6 week break.
Your Italian inspired dinner sounds delicious, all my favourite things!
I’m hoping for those few weeks of really pretty weather at the start of September. Some of my favorites…well, September is just my favorite:) Always nice to have you stop by, Deb! Hope you are having a great day!
It always feels like a reward for getting through the last bit of summer. I can totally relate to the frustration with Hobby Lobby already having Christmas stuff out it’s way too early and just ruins the moment.
The project with the ceiling fan sounds like something I would do, too. You always think it’ll be a quick fix, and then you’re a few hours in and realize it’s time to call a professional. And I love that you make two different pots of spaghetti; that’s dedication!
By the way, I just put up a new post. Feel free to check it out at http://www.melodyjacob.com.
Will do, Melody. Thanks! Glad you stopped by this morning!!
Thank you for visiting my blog earlier this week. It was such a pleasure to return the visit and meet a sister in Christ. I was captivated when I read that you had a cool front move in. I had to look up that phrase as it has been quite a long time since we had that here in North Central Texas. We have another week under a heat advisory with temps over 100. I can only dream of cooler days.
Late summer….hmmm….that will be late September or early October before I ca n say that. The light will change as the sun shifts, but the temperatures will very high for the foreseeable future here in Florida. With the beginning of September, my eyes focus on anything that looks like it might be stirring in the Gulf. Such is the life here, but I love living here. It is truly HOME.
I am grateful the grandson went back to daycare on Monday after a week of crying.
We had homemade lasagne last night. Delicious. It was my hubby’s birthday yesterday and it is one of his favourite meals.
There are so many things I am thankful for, but for now I will say, spending time with family and having a lovely holiday with D.
