Welcome to the blog….and hello to Friday. I know this last day of the work week is a favorite for many but I am still number one fan for Mondays!! Ah, and that simple thought leads me right to today’s Five Minute Friday. The writing exercise where you get a prompt (on Friday morning so no time to mentally rehearse thoughts or ideas the night before) and simply write for five minutes. And then publish. Without (too much) overthinking or editing. So, no need to drag out the intro either. Today’s prompt: OPPOSITES
I like Mondays. Many hate Mondays. (Sigh). I hate tomatoes. My mom, like many others, loved fresh tomatoes. Loved even sandwich made simply with tomatoes (how can that be?). I think of my children. Raised in the same home, with the same opportunities, philosophies, and, in many ways, the same experiences. And yet (almost) complete opposites. As a side note, I find that truth interesting. So interesting. Sometimes I think I would love to deep dive into what makes that happen. Other times and most often, I know that is probably best left alone.
The truth is we are all unique. Individual. Like my children, we are similar in many ways. But, for sure, we are all unique. Opposities even. As I consider that fact this morning, I am reminded we are “the same” at the foot of the cross. In the eyes of our savior. He sees each of us, with all our differences and uniqueness, as special, worthy, loved and full of potential. What a beautiful, and yet sobering, truth. Our world (myself included, if I am honest) tends to define and delineate us according to our differences. I want to start seeing this world – my neighbors, my community and my family – as He does. Starting today.
STOP. My thoughts today. Just the tip of the iceberg but, then again, it is only five minutes worth of writing. I have challenged myself. Not so much with the writing but my heart was challenged. To see this world as the savior sees this world.
I hope you have a great weekend. Enjoy these last, late summer days. They really are quite lovely!! I hope you will come back by the blog on Monday.
What an interesting 5 minutes of writing about opposites, Jennifer! I like Mondays because it is like having a clean slate and starting off fresh. While I was teaching, Fridays were a look back to see what was successful, what wasn’t, and what needed revisiting or revamping. Wishing you a great Friday and a wonderful weekend.
So true about the kids. They can live in the same house, same parents, same food, go to the same schools even – will turn out differently with their own personalities, interests, opinions on life. It keeps families interesting!
I love Mondays too! It’s like we get a fresh start every week 🙂 What a gift! I also do not like tomatoes. Just not a fan. And yes, it is fascinating to look at kids born of the exact same parents and see all the uniqueness in them. That’s the creativity of the Father. He handcrafts each one of us. It’s so amazing when you think about it. Now, you want to talk opposites…that would be husband and wife. 🙂 hahaha At least in my household. 🙂
Thank you for sharing your five minute thoughts, Jennifer. God bless you and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
My husband hates tomatoes as well. I agree about kids.. mine are polar opposites of each other.
Oh, these are excellent reflections for these days. Thank you, Jennifer! And Happy Monday (I love Mondays, too)!
