Happy Monday friends! I hope everyone had a nice weekend. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the weather around here was again spectacular! We took advantage of it and did another hike. We went to the battlfield near us where, last time we attempted this trail, we melted in the unexpected heat. Not this time. It was the perfect temperature but, honestly, I was a bit taken with the sky and, especially, the clouds. I will insert a few photos throughout this “bonus” daybook. Typically, I do one a month but..well, here is another one for October. The photos will, no doubt, have little or nothing to do with my daybook thoughts but enjoy nevertheless:)Outside my window. I am a bit worried that fall is on its way out. While the leaves on the (very few) trees in our yard have not even completely changed color much less dropped their leaves, there are quite a few trees throughout the neighborhood that are bare. Bare?!? Such a huge sigh on my part. And the last two mornings, the heat has been running when I woke up. And there has been the lightest touch of frost. Frost!? I am not ready to let fall go. To allow it to pass into…..you know what?!?!
Around the house. Things are looking pretty good. We do need some help with the backyard fence. One post has been sinking for awhile and, well now, we cannot get the gate to close without a bit of an ordeal. Hubby worked on it quite a bit on Saturday. But concrete. We decided to get some quotes for professional help. Can’t wait to see what those might be??
On the horizon for this week. This afternoon I am meeting a friend. We like to catch up whenever she is out my way. For coffee (some shopping) or for a light dinner. On Tuesday after Bible study, we are all going out to lunch at the country club in one of the gal’s neighborhood. So fancy:) Thursday evening, Hubby and I are meeting friends for dinner. We came across a list of the “Top 50 Restaurants” in our area. So, we have decided to work our way through the list trying all the (supposed) best new to us places to eat! Should be a fun challenge. On Friday, I am looking forward to a day out with friends. We are taking a monument tour (downtown) by way of water taxi. We will stop midway in Georgetown. Where we will get lunch. But, of course we will! I write all this, not that anyone is interested in my schedule this week but just to say…..so much eating!!?? Does everything revolve around food? For me – apparently, yes! (I better pencil one or two – or ten – more hiking afternoons!)
On the menu this week. Well, I mentioned the new to us restaurant on Thursday. That should be fun. We will not make it to all fifty eateries on the list. That is for sure. Some will be eliminated right from the start. I try to be open-minded with restaurants but there are some that I just “don’t do.” And we have decided to skip the $$$$ ones. I’m all for fancy (er, pricey) when there is a need for fancy but weekday “dates” with friends is not a need for fancy. That said, I think our first restaurant will be Italian. Can’t go wrong with Italian, right?? Stay tuned for a review:)
What I’ve been reading. I decided to read through my Mitford series books again. They are my absolute favorite. I am currently at book three. I am loving these books like it is the first time I’ve ever read them! Still laughing at all of Uncle Billy’s jokes:) Imagine my surprise when I was told a couple of weeks ago that there is a new book in the series! Who could have imagined? It will take me a bit to get through the series but I certainly will look forward to “the rest of the story”!!
On my mind at the beginning of the week. Are thoughts from our pastor’s message last night. He preached on the passage of Mary and Martha found in Luke 10. A very familiar passage but one that definitely caused me to pause and reconsider. To think about how I spend my time. What I prioritize. And how I allow my schedule and my days to be determined. This season of life, for me, is not the busiest season I have experienced. I mentioned it just recently but my days, for the most part, are mine to fill as I choose. And that is nice. However, if I am not careful, such freedom can make me a bit non-chalant and even lazy. What a shame it would be to have “all this time” and yet miss the “one thing that is needful.” (Luke 10:42).
So what is on your mind at the beginning of this week? I’d love to hear. How is autumn looking in your neck of the woods? I’m determined to notice all the brilliantly colored trees today. And not the bare ones!! However your week looks ahead, I pray you notice the beauty around you as well. Thanks for stopping by, friends.
