Happy Hump Day, friends…welcome to Wednesday. And with this Wednesday actually falling on the 10th, I thought it would be the perfect time to join Marsha’s Ten on the Tenth. And, when I checked her blog…it was all about the “ber” months. About fall!! Or so I thought. Apparently, I was reading too quickly and thought she asked for our ten favorite things about the “ber” months. Easy, I thought. Even if I could not include nice photos to go with all ten things, like she did, I knew I could easily rattle off ten fall favorites. But then. I realized that was not exactly the prompt. Ugh – I’ll save the actual prompt for minute. First, let me tell you some of my favorite things:)
1 – the smells of autumn. I love the candles. The scented soaps. The essential oil blends. Even the householder cleaners are scented with vanilla, sugar cookie, cinnamon, pumpkin spice and apple cider. They are all magical.
2 – sleeping with the windows open. We did so for the first time just the other night. It won’t be long (well, too long) until we switch the sheets for flannel ones. Soft, cozy flannel sheets are another favorite.
3 – fall decor. The colors of fall decor suit my house well. It makes everything look better, truth be told. And the pumpkins and a few scarecrows here and there make us smile.
4 – walks that are brisk. And full of cool, fresh air. That fact that I don’t come home drenched in sweat doesn’t hurt my feelings either.
5 – fall drinks. Yep, I’m a sucker for them. I confess. Even the fall creamers for “make your coffee at home” sound so much better than those the rest of the year. Sprinkle that foam with some cinnamon or pumpkin spice and I think I’m in a Hallmark movie!
6 – sweater weather. (And tights!) It’s not quite here (and that’s okay) but it will be before you know it. And I like my fall clothes sooo much more than my summer ones.
7 – fall festivals. I was looking up the dates for some of local festivals just yesterday. Filling my calendar with all the outdoor, autumn fun. I am ready!
8 – Bible study. It resumes next week. I really do miss meeting with these ladies during the summer. I am anxious not only to see everyone again but to begin another new study. My brand new study book arrives tomorrow. Even the new book makes me happy.
9 – all the pumpkin goodness. My pumpkin inspired Pinterest board continues to grow! I am sucker for dishes – desserts, cookies and even main dishes – that have that yummy pumpkin goodness in them:) Think bread, cookies, dip, french toast and even wonderful pasta dishes! With pumpkin…yummmm.
10 – cozy evenings. With or without the fireplace. Snuggling under a throw. Making time to read a book. Picking up my crochet hook more often. The light glow of nightlights throughout the house each evening. Slower schedules and staying home. I’m here for it.
Yes, friends, there is much to look forward to in these next few months ahead. I hope my list gets you excited for it. What is one of your favorites of fall? But that list was not exactly the prompt or challenge Marsha left for today. Oh no. She actually asked for your ten favorite things that end in “ber.” Huh? Can I even think of ten things that end in ber? No idea. But here is what I came up with….
1 – September. Two of our children and our anniverary are in September. Lots to celebrate and plenty of cake:)
2 – Slobber. As in dog kisses on the car windows and our front door. (Not on me!)
3 – Limber. My morning stretches feel wonderful and are a great start to the day.
4 – Uber. Well, I’ve never really taken an Uber but I think the Waymo ride last month counts. Great memory!!
5 – Cobbler. Probably one of my favorite desserts.
6 – Clabber. Sour milk. Yep, sour. I would not drink it for anything…but my granddad loved it (sincerely loved it) and I love thinking about him!!
7 – Remember. I am planning to start a small scrapbook project. Of sorts. To help me remember. Will be a great autumn evening project.
8 – November. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. By far.
9 – Slumber. Sleeping in those extra thirty minutes. Snuggled under an extra blanket. Fall mornings are perfect for catching up on sleep!
10 – Micawber. Probably didn’t see that one coming, did you? Wilkins Micawber is a fictional character created by Charles Dickens. Usually associated with optimism. Definition of micawber: a person who remains hopeful despite adversity. May that be said of me. And I certainly appreciate those who naturally do much better at it than me.
Well, who could have thunk it. But there is my list. Can you think of a favorite thing that ends with “ber”? I’m sure you can! Thanks for stopping by and have a fun day!!
Happy “Ber” months season!! My favorite, by far. The smells of autumn are my favorite. I always stock up this time of year because I love to have them year round. I’m not big on other smells as they easily trigger migraines for me. Yes, yes, yes to fall decor, cool crisp walks, fall drinks, sweater weather, festivals, Bible studies, and all things pumpkin!!
What an interesting prompt – things that end in “ber”. You did better than I would have. My mind drew a blank. Maybe cucumbers…I love those.
Have a great rest of the week!
I love the -ber months. November is my favorite of the four because of Thanksgiving and my anniversary. As to words that end in -ber — stairclimber (taking the stairs from the first floor to the basement for exercise), remember (my husband says I never forget anything), subscriber (to 3 magazines which are up for renewal soon), microfiber (the cleaning cloths used on my glasses), member (of several stitch groups), cucumber (I prefer the seedless ones), lumber (wood used to make things), stabber (how I cross stitch), number, timber (the tree that was taken down), and rubber ( the gasket around the refrigerator door needs cleaning).
Have a good rest of the week, Jennifer!
I enjoyed reading both your lists! I love all the things you mentioned about the ‘ber months as well – the weather and scents and decor and flavors, and definitely the flannel! Thanksgiving is also my favorite holiday and we always celebrate it at least twice, on the Canadian and the American dates. Very clever list of words ending in ‘ber too – and I had a few of the same words. I did not know that about the character Micawber, but how fun!
Here I am…late to the party again. We’ve had a busy week here and I’ve not done a good job of getting around to blog reading.
I enjoyed reading about all of the things you love about autumn! Just reading about flannel sheets made me think warm cozy thoughts. Warm drinks are another favorite of mine
And congratulations in coming up with 10 “ber” words! You did great!
