Hello friends. I hope everyone has been having a good week. My goodness but I am grateful for heating and a warm home. It has been bitter. What a difference one week can make! But, thankfully, no more flurries or other mentions of the white stuff since last Friday. Phew. I am hoping for a couple days of good weather as we have plans that involve extra time outside. But, for now, it is (already) time for this year’s last Currently post. I think I am going to saying that quite a bit in the next days and weeks. “The last one for this year….” Hard to believe. Don’t forget, the rest of the link-up can be found here on Jen’s blog. But, for now, as of this fifth day of December, I am currently……
LOVING – the calm that has been December. At least, so far. Calm in December – is that even a thing? But, thinking back to the first of November, well, this month has gotten off to a much better start. I’m sure the election and other things political contributed to last month’s agitation but there were other things as well. But, so far, things feel different in this early part of December. Could it be that my inner Buddy the Elf is starting to wake up? Ok, let’s not get carried away (lol) but, minus the frigid temperatures, I am enjoying (um, loving) all the feels of December.
LOOKING FORWARD TO – celebrating my husband’s birthday tomorrow. We are going to West Virginia and taking a three hour train ride. He doesn’t know where we are headed but I know he is going to really enjoy it! I plan to get pictures:) Of course, the plan is always to get pictures but I often forget. Sigh.
BUYING – one or two treasures today at the Bizarre Bazaar. Two of my friends and I are driving to Richmond to attend the bazaar. We do this every year and it kicks off the holiday season for me. So many talented and fun vendors. Several “well I never would have thought of that” vendors. Plenty of vendors offering yummy food samples – ha. And so much interesting crowd watching:) I am not shopping for anything in particular but I do have some extra “fun money” set aside so it would be fun to find a new treasure. Or two. (Of course, if I have extra cash, I will probably see nothing that strikes my fancy. Does that happen to you?)
HOPING – for no snow. Just being honest. Also, hoping for warm(er) weather tomorrow. Hoping the holiday meal on the train is decently tasty. It was kind of pricey (for dinner) so my fingers are crossed. Hoping there is no line at the post office on Saturday. I only have to mail one package each Christmas and, assuming I get there on Saturday, this will be the earliest I have taken care of that task. Hooray for me. Hoping to finish getting my house ready for Christmas. By the weekend – hopefully. Maybe. And, hoping not to gain the holiday five by this time next month. (Have to hope really hard on that one!)
BAKING – nothing, quite yet. But I need to take a dish to both Bible studies next week. I am making a dessert for one (I’m thinking a peppermint trifle but could easily change my mind – any good holiday dessert suggetions?) and baked oatmeal for brunch the second day. I love baked oatmeal. I know I mentioned that in my Thanksgiving recap, but I really do. I’m making the same recipe I made on Thanksgiving morning and I am just as excited to be having it again so soon. Yum. As for the rest of the month, I am not sure if I will be doing cookies or much holiday baking. At least, not the baking that stays here. I enjoy baking to share but do not need cookies in my cupboard!
Well, I have to admit…that was rather short and sweet. But it is late. And I have to get up and out early. And it is late. Why do I wait until “late” to write these posts?? My brain neither writes coherently or engages creatively once the sun goes down. It just doesn’t. Nevertheless, thanks for reading along. I hope you will come back on Monday. There should be train photos:)
Happy birthday to your husband!
Happy Birthday to your husband. Hope your trip goes well. Hope you enjoyed the bazaar. Take care.
The Peppermint Trifle gets my vote!
Have fun celebrating your husband’s birthday and traveling! It is currently snowing here, we have gotten several inches in the last few hours. It’s also cold! But, we have only had flurries, and one dusting, so this is our first real snow. We have never been on a train in the US, but have overseas. My husband and I were recently discussing if you could still get places by train, I guess you can 🙂
Hello, my friend. Happy Birthday to your husband! And I am enjoying a calm start to December and loving it!!! Have a cozy weekend
Hi Jennifer! I’m so sorry that the weather is so cold! We are having a heat wave here in Idaho. For the last week, it has been in the upper and mid 40’s – that’s very warm for us, especially in December. Your trip sounds like a lot of fun! Happy birthday to your husband!! I can’t wait to see all the photos and hear all about your trip!! Hugs, Barb
Happy birthday to your husband! I hope you have a beautiful day my friend.
Happy birthday to your husband. The birthday outing sounds like it will be a lot of fun! I really only bake one thing this time of year and let other people do the rest of it!
Happy Birthday to your husband. Hope everything goes to plan, I am sure he will enjoy whatever you have planned.
I hope you enjoyed your visit to WV! Did you take the train to the New River Gorge? We did that a few years ago.
And yes, December feels much more hopeful than November.
Keep smiling and writing! Thank you for your posts.
