Hello friends. I hope everyone has been having a good week. My goodness but I am grateful for this warm home. The snow has blanketed us and the frigid air has settled in as well. Thankfully, there is no more mention of the white stuff in the near forecast. Maybe this will be “one and done” for this winter’s snow. Sadly, Bible study did not resume today but our roads are (basically) clear and, hopefully, life will resume “as normal” soon. Today is the first Currently post for this year. Somewhat hard to believe. Yes, currently I am simply trying my best to keep a good attitude with all this winter weather but I am not focusing on that. Instead, as of this first week of 2025, I am currently……
LOVING – impromptu coffee dates with friends. Just yesterday I was telling myself that I really need to get out of the house. Getting out of the house is critical to helping with my winter weather attitude adjustments. I could tell an adjustment was going to be needed soon. Not twenty minutes later, a friend texted and asked if I wanted to meet for coffee. Yes, indeed. Such a nice morning catching up over holiday-inspired lattes. I am so thankful for my many different friendships. They are each unique and each one feeds my soul in a special way.
A few other things I am enjoying lately: burning candles (I most often diffuse essential oils but have really been enjoying candles first thing in the morning and again after dark in the evening), reading before I go to sleep, and Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Peppermint Bark. Oh my stars.
TRYING TO STAY WARM – by using our fireplace. Every day and throughout the day. It is gas and has only one “setting” – full blast and hot. It looks so cozy and feels that way too when you first turn it on; however, it will get hot. Very hot. So we turn it on and off….repeating that cycle several times during the day. I’m not complaining. There is no wood to gather. No kindling to chop. No soot and no mess. Just instant, delicious heat. It is especially nice first thing on these cold, dark mornings.
ORGANIZING – my blog thoughts and post ideas. Or I am trying. I have tried this exercise in the past but do not usually have much luck. Other than that, not much actually. It does seem like the time of year to be organizing something….but, I’ve got nothing here.
WEARING – several new sweaters. Some I got for Christmas and quite a few were given to me by a sweet friend. She was purging her extensive sweater collection and was so kind to share with me. I have had fun trying a new sweater a day! Fun game….and great friend!
RESOLVING – to get outside every day. To get my steps in every day (except Sunday). To work on scripture memory every day. To read something inspirational last thing before I go to bed. To be purposeful with my time on Youtube. Granted, some of these are going better than others. I have really struggled with getting those steps. (I blame winter). But I am resolved to keep pressing toward the goal(s).
What is one thing you resolved to work on this year? Or just this month? Or should I say, what is one thing you need to resolve to work on??:) Time like the present to start! Have a wonderful Wednesday, friends. Don’t forget to check out the rest of the link-up here.
I would like to walk more, but right now we are too snow covered for that. I would also love to have a coffee date with a friend! Most of my local friends are never available for that, sadly.
I love our gas fireplace as well! Easy peasy and the burst of instantaneous warmth and ambiance- win, win, win. How fun to be the recipient of new to you clothes! And to get an invite for coffee. I like all of your resolutions- such good ones!
What a fun and fresh look for the blog! I have been struggling to get my steps and get outside every day too. It’s so darn cold I need a pep talk just to get myself out of bed. I’m trying to at least add in some YouTube exercise routines so at least I’m moving. Your fireplace looks lovely. We have the wood.. and the kindling, and the soot… but it’s still lovely when it’s cold. Just a bit more work for sure.
Sitting here close to our space heater on the lanai, since it’s only in the 50-degrees here today, I remember well two of my previous homes in Colorado that had gas fireplaces. My goodness, what a blessing they were after years before of the wood-fired kind. Flipping that switch on and off, what a delight!!!
I awoke to snow this morning, but it was gone by noon. We are getting a snowstorm on Friday and Saturday which has me preparing to stay home this weekend! I enjoyed reading your blog and hope as well to get things back to normal soon. Most of my family has been sick since Christmas, taking turns with fevers and a cough. I seem to escape the worst of it for which I’m very thankful.
I agree it is important to get out and get some fresh air and I try to make myself get out there. I’ve been feeling the cold so much more this winter, but I bundle up and take a bit of time outside or go to the store.
Your gas fireplace looks so cozy but I can imagine how it can get hot. Stay warm!
I enjoyed reading your currently post. We’re staying warm with blankets when we sit down to watch TV or read. Love curling up in a blanket to read. Enjoy your fireplace. I know I would if I had one. Have a great day!
I’m so glad that you haven’t needed a full-on attitude adjustment concerning winter yet! Good job, you! We currently have about 10 or 11 inches of snow but are still under a winter storm warning through Saturday.
Something I am continuing to work on for 2025 is Scripture memorization on a daily basis and cutting back on social media time. I set a timer on my phone for Instagram and YouTube…my total phone time has decreased drastically!
Have a lovely evening, my friend.
I am snuggled under a blanket, my friend. I ventured out today, but it was cold!!!!!!!!! I don’t make resolutions, but I am trying to appreciate the now. I tend to obsess about the past and worry about the future, but I am finding that being here right now is best.
I have a couple of sweaters I have gotten from my best friend and I love them. Friends sharing clothing is so great!
Happy new year and thanks for the blog visit.
It’s hard trying to get steps in when it’s so darn cold out, 23 degrees. I am trying to get to the gym at least two times a week. It’s great that you get to stay warm with your pretty fireplace. Enjoy the month of January.
Hello, what a fun idea, a sweater a day. 🙂
In 2024 I made a date each month with 4 of my dear friends. We did it, 12 dates with friends.. in this busy life it felt so good for us to meet in person.
Happy New Year!
Carla
I just finished The Intentional Year by Glenn and Holly Packiam. That is one of my goals this year, to be more intentional with my time, money, etc…I admire you for wanting to get out and walk every day. I would love to as well, it’s just too cold here. I also want to get on the treadmill each day, but my health makes working out difficult at times. But, i need to persevere and do it anything. I hope all is well with you.
