Hello friends….happy Monday!! I thought I would have a quick look at the weekend and, well, I missed posting on Friday. Oops. So, I will have to begin with last Thursday. And, I don’t want to skip it because I had such a good time. My friend and I went to a local theater performance of Fiddler on the Roof! We have a couple “local theater groups” in our area. All of them are very good but this particular group is award-winning. They have won BroadwayWorld’s “Favorite Local Theatre” award several times and, last year, won its “Best Musical” award. Surely, they will win something for this year’s performance. It was fantastic!!
Are you familiar with the story of Fiddler on the Roof? It was a broadway hit back in the 60s and the music continues to be fun, lively and popular. Oh to be able to sing…and to have such fun singing in front of others! I loved the music. Not to mention to be able to memorize all those lines. I am always amazed. The actor who played the lead role of Tevye has (in real life) nine children. And ten grandchildren! He was brilliant! There was also a traditional Russian bottle dance that was super impressive.
I will say that it was long. It was a late night for my friend who had to drive home a little over an hour after it was finished. But we don’t often have a chance to “get out” like that so we really enjoyed ourselves. And we were celebrating her birthday. Happy Birthday, friend (um, she rarely reads the blog.)
Saturday morning, I attended a ladies’ meeting at church. We are still working our way through a book called Anchored, and this particular lesson was about the thoughts in our head. Aka, talking to ourselves. So much of our self-talk is negative and much of that is just mean. Why do we do that do ourselves? It was a good lesson but, honestly, I feel like we barely scratched the surface. Afterwards, Hubbie and I ran some errands. I had to return something to Hobby Lobby and we ended looking around. We made our first fall decor purchase. As if we needed to add anything to those bins. But we walked right into it. The rows and rows of fall-themed cuteness that has taken over the first six aisles of the store! I totally blame the hubbie. He is a sucker for the fall decor! Not kidding.
That evening, we went to an outdoor concert with the Pershing’s Own Army Band. It was such a pretty night. No humidity and no bugs. Could not ask for more when it comes to sitting outside and enjoying fun music. One of the performances was a dramatic narrative of the poem “Casey at the Bat” with the band playing “Take me Out to the Ballgame.” It was really well done and the guy telling the poem was having a lot of fun! You know, there were several times over the last couple of days that I thought, “It would be fun to have a bit of the performing gene!” But, I don’t. I do appreciate others’ talents, though!
Which brings me to Sunday. Last night was the final night of our “summer series” and the fourth and final lesson that I have been teaching to the ladies on Sunday evenings. Can I just say, “Phew.” There was much I enjoyed about teaching this past month…and teaching a group over the age of eight:) But I have to admit, I am glad to see it draw to an end. It was been rather time-consuming and a bit mentally draining, if I am honest. I am grateful for the opportunity (for more reasons than I can really get into) but am also more than okay to return to “regularly scheduled programming” on Sunday evenings.
This week ahead should be a “mixed bag” – for lack of a better description. Hubbie and I are going away for a few days towards the end of the week. We are looking forward to it. But we will be “keeping ourselves busy” as our son’s Heaven birthday will be this weekend. These are tough for me and this one will be “a big one” and a challenge for this mama’s heart. I do plan to post on Wednesday but not sure about Friday. Before we head out of town, the rest of the week should be “normal.” (How many times can I use quotation marks in one post?? Ok, I counted. There were 13! Thirteen??!) Hopefully, I can get around to visiting blogs. I only made it through of half the posts on Hodge Podge Wednesday. Sigh. I so enjoy those.
But, enough for a catch-up blog. Have a great week ahead! We are full steam ahead to August…can you believe it?? Happy Monday:)
It was great hearing about what you’ve been up to! I’ve never seen Fiddler on the Roof, but it sounds like it was a fun night and great show. I’m so glad you and Hubby are getting away for a few days this week; I will be thinking of you both as Friday approaches and will be praying for you as the day approaches. I imagine that all of these yearly anniversaries are hard, but especially when it’s a significant number of years. Big hugs to you, my friend, along with prayer. Much love.

Sounds like a fun full weekend. I always say when I get to heaven I’ll be able to sing in tun lol. Thankfully my daughters got hubs genes in that department. I will be thinking of you this weekend. I’m glad you have plans and hope keeping busy helps you manage the difficult day.

I don’t have the performing gene (so I worked on props and backstage) either. It sounded like you had a fantastic weekend. I’m heading off to another stitching weekend on Thursday. Before I actually get to the hotel, I am stopping at a friend’s house for lunch and stitching. Jennifer, I wish you peace for the approaching weekend.
I’ve always enjoyed working backstage, too. I did that in high school as well..and loved being part of productions in that way! Thanks for your comment, Robin!
Sounds like you had a fabulous weekend! Teaching for sure can be draining, especially teaching adults, LOL! I hope you and your husband enjoy a nice weekend away, and it is the distraction you need it to be. I am sorry for your loss, and pray that God will bring you the peace and comfort that only He can provide.

I have not seen Fiddler but you know what’s funny? Over the years I’ve subbed a decent bit in music classes and what does the music teacher often have the students do when she’s gone? (Thankfully NOT expect subs to teach music!!) She often has videos of musicals for the students to watch. I get to watch them, too. I have learned SO MANY musicals from the movies that were made of them. That is how I know Fiddler on the Roof!! I’d love to see a “real” version of it on stage! So many talented performers/musicians in my family and sadly I did not get the gene. Will be thinking of you this weekend. Have a great day!
Can you imagine if the subs were to teach/practice music or singing? That would be interesting!! Although I think I could pull that off better than I could math!! It was a great performance. What a nice weekend! I have never seen Fiddler on the Roof in full – just in bits and pieces. I had a friend at work who LOVED it and wanted me to watch it so we could discuss. I should do that now, though that friend moved away ages ago.

Oh I love a great live performance! I always have a good hour drive home afterwards too and most of the time I don’t mind at all… other times I something feel like the show wasn’t quite worth the super late bedtime though. Fiddler on the Roof is one of my all-time favorites. I love it, and now I’m thinking it’s about time I rewatched it for the umpteenth time. That concert sounds wonderful. Enjoy your time away, and I will say a prayer for you. I totally understand.
