Hello friends. I hope your week is going well. Time for some “eggs-cellent” questions from Joyce for today’s Hodge Podge. The rest of the fun can be found here.
1. Egg on your face, putting all your eggs in one basket, a good egg, walk on eggshells, nest egg, or a tough egg to crack…which eggy idiom currently applies to your life in some way? Why is the very first question challenging me? Hmmm. I often feel like life is “walking on eggshells” and it makes me somewhat sad to even write that. Mentally I think I am just conditioned to tread lightly. Careful not to “crack the surface,” so to speak. Is that anxiety? Not sure but I would love a way to unlearn this way of going through each day, week and season of life.
2. April 7th is National Beer Day…are you a beer drinker? Beer battered fish, beer bread, beer can chicken, beer brats…which one sounds good to you? Have you made any of these? Have never had a beer and do not think I have had any of those recipes.
3. Do you have siblings? What’s the best thing about being your sibling? I have one sibling, my younger brother. Younger by 16 months. I think, when it comes to brothers, he is one of the best. But I don’t think that answers the question. One of my brother’s best qualities is his faithfulness. He is very devoted to his own family, is a good friend, and is very committed to the non-profit, Children of Vietnam, which he helps chair. He is also devoted and very good to his big sister:)

On one of his trips to VietNam.

Making dinner and helping to take such good care of me when I went through my cancer treatment.

During my trip to SF last year to visit him!
4. How do you feel about floral scents in products? Do you have a favorite? There are a lot of floral scents I enjoy in products. Peony and lavender are two that come quickly to mind. But my favorite floral scented product is rose hip oil that I use on my face…and anywhere else I can find to rub it so I catch a whiff of it throughout the day. I don’t’ know that I would enjoy a rose scented perfume but this oil is light, fresh and just lovely.
5. What’s one thing in your home that begins with the letter G that you would say is a keeper, something you’ll hold on to? Grandma’s recipe box. I’ve blogged about that several times. I also have Grandma’s plate and a set of (another) Grandma’s dishes. I do not have too many things that belonged to my grandparents so these few things are quite special.

6. Insert your own random thought here. A couple random thoughts. I have fallen into the routine of writing my posts the day/morning that I want to upload them. Not the night before. The writing is easiest for me this way but it makes the post “late” getting out. I know many read blogs early in the morning. Sorry for the inconsistency.
We attended a funeral yesterday evening. Funerals always give me pause to consider. What impact and/or legacy am I going to leave? These thoughts go hand in hand with Monday’s thoughts of being a wise steward of my time and my days. Intrestingly, after I posted on Monday, I read a devotional that I receive daily. (I had not read it beforehand). The devotional was about using our days and time wisely. Really? In it, he quoted Adoniram Judson, who was a pioneer missionary to Burma in the 1700s. Judson said, “A life once spent is irrevocable. It will remain to be contemplated through eternity. The same may be said of each day. When it is once past, it is gone forever. All the marks which we put upon it, it will exhibit forever. Each day will not only be a witness of our conduct, but will affect our everlasting destiny. How shall we then wish to see each day marked with usefulness! It is too late to mend the days that are past. The future is in our power. Let us, then, each morning, resolve to send the day into eternity in such a garb as we shall wish it to wear forever. And at night let us reflect that one more day is irrevocably gone, indelibly marked.” Definitely much to meditate on. And how I wish I could my thoughts into words like many men and women of the past!
While I have had beer, it isn’t a favorite. I have had beer battered fish and if it is done correctly, it makes for an amazing meal. I hope I am considered a good egg; I do walk on eggshells around certain family members and friends. How interesting the devotional you read dealt with using time wisely. I really liked the quote by Adoniram Judson. It makes a good bit of sense to me. Happy Wednesday, Jennifer!
Thanks Robin and I’m so glad you came by the blog today!!
It sounds like you have a wonderful brother. Oh how I wish I had my grandma’s recipe box. I think she knew most of her recipes by heart but they must have started somewhere. Since I am among the youngest of her 26 grandchildren, I am sure one of the older cousins have it. She’s been gone since 1976. Boy that would be a keeper for sure.
The youngest of 26 grandchildren – wow! I have such a small family…it is hard to imagine all those cousins!!:) And, yes, I think my brother is a “good egg”!:)
Good Morning. Fun questions. I’m not a drinker, but the beer battered fish filets are wonderful.
I have one brother (he’s in heaven ~ cancer took him 5 years ago. He is my little brother, 10 years younger than me. I have one sister who is 6 years older than me and she turned 90 last September.
I enjoy my Sand and Fog candles, as they smell fresh like the ocean.
G for Grandmother. My mother’s picture in my hutch reminds me what a wonderful grandmother she was to my children.
Thanks for the fun questions today. I pray you day will be blessed with all the things that make you happy.
Thank you, Wanda. I pray your day has been a good one as well. I think “G” reminded many of grandmother today. So many sweet memories!
Enjoyed reading your answers! I tend to read blog posts early in the day so I am definitely who may “miss” a post that isn’t posted in the morning. I mean, I will get to it but sometimes a day may pass. You definitely need to write when it suits you best but I do know what you mean! On the days that I post, I try to do so early. I love the items from your grandma and what perfect “G” items in your house that are special to you. Speaking of special, it sounds like you have a special and great brother. How wonderful! Have a great day!
Thanks Maria. I do hope you check back when I miss posting early. I always enjoy when you pop by the blog. Would hate to miss you here in this space for too long!
How lovely to have such a gem of a brother. You came up with a great G keeper! I do most of my blogging in the morning. I’m finding the weekends to be more impossible to blog or get around, too. I’m not sure my life will be worth contemplating through eternity. I think we’ll be thinking about our Savior more. Time will tell. Funerals are a great reminder to consider our days…
Thanks for your comment, Ellen. You are right….not much reflecting on our lives once we get to Heaven. Time to consider our days is now. Glad you come by the blog today!
A beautiful post! I have one thing from my grandparents – a diamond wedding band that my grandmother sent me when I graduated high school. I hope to pass it on to my middle son someday – hoping it will bring he and his wife joy and good luck!
I know that ring is a special treasure! Thanks for stopping by the blog:)
I used to consistently write early morning and now I’m all over the map. I go back to my reader and will read some posts from the day before and comment because I realize not everyone can post early. I would love more of a writing routine, but it’s not happening in this season where every day is different. I just learned a friend from our old neighborhood has a serious and advanced form of cancer and this sort of news also has me contemplating my own life and legacy. I know where I’m going from here but what am I leaving behind. I think it’s worth considering. There was a lot to think about in your random thought. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, Joyce, for your comment and for the link-up this week. And prayers for your friend!! Enjoy the rest of your week –
Oh, I had fun reading your answers!!! You post whenever!! I read at night. Sometimes afternoon. 🙂 I love visiting always.
Ah, thanks, Chrissy. And I love it whenever you do visit and stop for “a chat” here on the blog!
HI Jennifer. It sounds like our brothers could be twins! I’m almost four years older than my brother and we’ve always been so close and the best of friends. I’m so fortunate to have him as my brother. Even though he moved to Florida last spring – I sure do miss him, but we do talk several times a week and visit each other when we can so that helps. Have a great weekend!

I enjoyed your answers. I think I am one who walks on eggshells too…I think it comes from me not liking confrontation, but growing up being the people pleaser and not wanting to set anyone “off”. 🙁
Thanks for visiting my blog. You’re lucky to have such a close relationship with your brother. I’m sure being close in age helps but he does sound a lovely man. Your random though is deep but sometimes we do need to be reminded to look beyond the surface. I am totally random with my posting. Depends on what is happening on the day. I’m not one for getting up with the lark so early morning doesn’t often work for me.
