Happy Friday! It has been a good week and I am thankful. We had a crazy storm blow through last night. I had been out with a friend and had only been home about five minutes before the sky went completely black and the thunder started rumblings. Within minutes, it was a strong storm. I was ever so grateful the Lord held back the storm for those five extra minutes! I’m late posting this morning as we were a bit busy on the computer. I bought a car. Yes, on the internet, which is not a big deal to some but, for us old folks, it was not only a new experience but also a tad outside of our comfort zone, if I am honest. Technically, we have ordered the car. We can turn it down when it arrives but it would really have to be a dud for us to do that. We are totally invested in this purchase – financially and a bit emotionally. I’m not a huge “car person” but you do tend to put a lot of mental, if not emotional, energy into big purchases. Including cars.
That said, I did want to still get a post up today. Just a few things about life lately. I have been….
Reading … through I Kings for the Bible study I am doing with two friends. Specfically, we are studying one chapter at a time and, for now, we are only meeting every other week. So, I have been reading chapter 21 once a day, every day, for two weeks. It is so interesting what you see, pick up and digest when you read a chapter repeatedly for several days. I don’t think I have read a chapter, or other Bible portion, like this in a long time. I still do other Bible reading (that keeps moving) but this has been unique. And valuable.
Watching … Monarch of the Glen on Britbox. Have you seen it? We really enjoyed the first four seasons. Loved the characters, etc. A lot has changed in season five and, although we still like it, it is definitely not the same. Sigh. By the way, it is an old show (if you were wondering) and one of our favorite characters on the show recently died (in real life) and we were genuinely sad. Dont’ know him at all but, somehow, you feel connected to someone through a tv show.
Listening … to summer thunderstorms. Ok, thankfully, not this morning. But we have had a storm (to some degree or another) almost every evening this week. As long as I am snug at home, the storms are almost awe-inspiring. Granted, last night’s lightning was incredibly sharp but, usually, storms make me feel cozy. Somehow.
Writing … not much this week. And I am okay with that. After the extra writing for the weekly ladies’ sessions last month, my brain was happy to take a writing break this week. And maybe next week as well!
Cooking … two separate meals. At least three, or four, nights a week. I avoiding casseroles these days. I am also not eating pasta right now. Two things my husband really enjoys. He certainly is not on a diet and so I cook for him and make something else for me. Maybe not ideal, as in the easiest way to get dinner on the table, but it is not the worst and is working. For now:)Planning … for our vacation next month. I have nothing to wear. And that is a true statement. I seriously need to do some shopping. We will in New England and Canada. In September. I need layers and multiple outfits, including outwear (bulky) but I refust to take more than one suitcase and this lightpacker is struggling to imagine “so much stuff” that needs to be included. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Missing.…the incredibly long days of summer. Yes, it is still summer and, yes, the sunlight is still wonderful. But I have already noticed a shift in the sun – especially in the morning. I love when it floods my bedroom early in the morning, but that usually happens in July. Its just a subtle reminder that a change of season is coming. Sigh.
Wishing I Could Change … well, not much to change. Really. But I do wish I could hold the clock still for a bit. Our local schools start in two weeks. Everything seems to be “back to school” and I feel like there is a rush to be done with summer. Not for me. I just need summer to last for…well, as long as possible!
Loving … the crape myrtle outside my window. It is probably the prettiest it has ever been. Not only is it large but it is fully covered in gorgeous pink blooms. Definitely a reminder that summer isn’t over quite yet. Also loving the green grass. It is still green. Is it possible that we will go an entire summer without the grass turning to the beautiful beige brown color of sand?? Our porch flowers are also huge. Summer blooms are having a moment just now. I am definitely loving it!!
Well, enough for today. What are you loving today?? And I hope you have a good weekend ahead!! We have a low-key one ahead. I’m okay with that. Thanks for stoppin by –
