Welcome to my blog. And here we are at another Friday! This one seemed to come quickly, in my opinion. I mentioned in Monday’s post that I had enjoyed the most wonderful pedicure over the weekend. Even now, it makes me sigh so deeply with pleasure. There were a few ladies who mentioned in the comments that they have never had a pedicure. Really? I don’t do my fingernails but I “have my toes done” regularly. I, honestly, thought it was akin to getting your hair trimmed. Or colored. Or whatever maintenance you require:) Not sure why, but I was just surprised that there were those who have never had a pedicure.
Which got me to thinking….what is something that (at this ripe old age) I have never done?? And, just so you won’t have to speculate all weekend, here are eight things that “never ever have I done.” I have to admit, it was a a bit harder than I imagined to think of things for this list. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Nevertheless, NEVER have I EVER…
1 – gotten a speeding ticket. I would love to say, “don’t ever speed and you will never get a speeding ticket” but that is not what I said. Ahem. I have gotten a ticket for following too close which, even four decades later, I still contest. I will confess to being stopped once for speeding. I threw down “my husband is a police officer” card. And it worked. He waved me off so quickly that, even now (that was also almost four decades ago) it makes me laugh. One other quick story and I will move on. I met my husband during my (rather) brief career as a police dispatcher. As I mentioned, he was an officer. I worked a rotating schedule and every third shift was midnights and I would go to work at, well, midnight. The (younger) officers working the night shifts were 1 – bored and 2 – easily entertained. They would be waiting for me to come through the major intersection that led to work and, without fail, when I crossed into the city, the red lights would come on and one of them would pull me over. I never had the nerve to just keep on driving. I would have to pull over. Which they thought was oh so funny.
2 – broken a bone. Can I just say how thankful I am for that fact?? I wanted to say that I’ve never had stitches but I was thinking I’ve never sliced my finger or busted my chin open. I have had surgeries that required stitches. Thankfully all of those have been internal and I have never had visible black thread. I would not be able to handle that. I am also thankful that none of my children ever had stitches. That would not have gone well. Phew.
3 – served on jury duty. That is probably a good thing as well. (Goodness but I hope I don’t jinx myself with this blog post!)
4 – traveled to Africa. I’m not a world traveler by any means but I have been to quite a few of the continents. But not Africa. There are some missionaries that I would very much like to visit one day in Botswana. Not sure that will ever happen but…who knows?
5 – had a professional massage. Granted, the foot (and calf) massage that is part of a pedicure is, well, probably the best part. However, I am talking about a massage. With (varying degrees of) skimpy clothing, on a sweaty table (that part might be my imagined version), performed by a massage therapist that I have never laid eyes on before. That does not sound relaxing to me in any way. At all. I was once gifted a very generous gift card for a massage. It went unused.
6 – been able to conquer yeast bread, homemade cinnamon rolls or a pie crust. Have I tried? Oh yes. Multiple times. Even took a simple class. But it has not happened and I suppose it never will – which is so disappointing.
7 – gotten an “F” (as in a school grade). In fact, I had never received anything lower than a “B” – until the second semester of my sophmore year in college. And I was given a “C” – yep. A first. And what was my reaction? I dropped out of college. Not even kidding. I was soooo incredibly mature at 20. (Sigh) Thankfully, with God’s grace, I was able to have two full-time career jobs (with excellent pay and benefits) right out of college. After my time as a police dispatcher, I was a legal secretary in the executive office of a very nice bank. Truly, that was God’s goodness to me. I stayed there until my daughter was born and I became a full-time mommy!
8 – memorized a full chapter of the Bible. I have started and tried several times but have not been able to finish the whole chapter. Will I ever try again? I’m not sure. I do commit a lot of verses (well, a lot for me and my oldish brain) to memory and, this year, I am working on a series of verses regarding TRUST. I’m happy just to have verses memorized. But I really have wanted to learn at least one chapter. Hmmm –
Well, I think I should stop now. Before I embarrass myself. So many silly things. And I sure hope I don’t find myself in a traffic stop next week!?! All in good fun. I hope everyone has a good weekend! Thanks again for stopping by today!!
Jennifer, I love these posts 🙂 They are so fun! I got an “F” in college in a dance class! My best friend and I skipped too many classes and I failed for lack of showing up. And the dough thing…I don’t get along with dough at all! I can make bread in the bread machine, buy pie crusts and any kind of dough I need, I make in the bread machine. It just doesn’t like me. That’s all I can figure.
Loved this idea, Jennifer! I have had one ticket, but it wasn’t for speeding. It was for making a left turn where I had always turned. It seems that since my last trip through that area the people in that neighborhood had complained about all of the traffic going through there and making that left turn. So, the sign had been put up, but I didn’t see it.
You are so right about being thankful you have never broken a bone. In 2011 I fell off a two-step stepstool and broke my left femur and right wrist. That takes talent! Of course there was surgery, a week’s stay in the hospital, two weeks in rehab and then outpatient PT after that. The fall happened in July and by November of that year I was released.
I had never memorized a full chapter of the Bible either until 2024. It took me all year or most of the year, but I did get it. I memorized Romans 12…this year I am starting out with Philippians 3 and reviewing Romans 12. It is amazing to me how much I remember from Romans 12 without really trying. I write out the Scriptures, and I think that is what has helped me more than anything.
Interesting tidbits of information that you shared, Jennifer! I have a lone F and that was in my junior year of college. Let’s just say that Organic Chemistry and I never became friends. I have memorized verses from the Bible, but not an entire book. I haven’t had a pedicure ever and probably won’t. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Fun post! I’ve done most of these things…never got an F though! I laughed when you said your C made you drop out of college. I could see my daughter doing that. She’s a perfectionist!
FUN post to read and I feel like I could write so much about each thing you mentioned here- reacting to you what you said and interjecting my own thoughts on the subjects!! I don’t think I knew your husband was a police officer- how neat… and terrifying at the same time. I definitely didn’t know you were a dispatcher and that’s how you guys met. So the cops purposely pulled you over just to mess with you? Ok, one story and then I’ll end this (seriously I could reply to every topic you listed!). I was pulled over once for going ONE MPH over the limit. Like, I saw the cop car sitting at the side of the road and didn’t even adjust my speed since I was only one MPH over. And the next thing I see are flashing lights behind me. It was ALL I could do to not sarcastically say something when he came to my window. He did “just” give me a warning but I was still not chuffed!! Have a great weekend!
Hi, I too have not served on a jury. I hope you have not jinxed the both of us talking about it.
Hee Hee!!
And no massage for me, I have the same vision you do. 😉
My son was deployed to Africa, Somali, Djibouti and Kenya. I have gifts that he purchased made from locals.
Never have I ever… used an ATM, Ubereats (or the like), had a glass of beer or wine (sips sure but yuck)! LOL I’ve never gotten an F on a report card either with my lowest grade being a C as well (and also in college; though I didn’t drop out since the C was in a class I couldn’t have cared less about and was just happy to pass so I didn’t have to retake it). No massage, no jury (though I did spend a day in the courthouse waiting to see if anyone wanted a jury that day but thankfully no one did). No Africa, Asia, Australia.. I think I’ve only vacationed on 3 continents N&S America and Europe (once). But definitely have broken bones/stitches and can make delicious breads and pastries.
This was fun! I can agree with you on every single one, except that I have gotten a massage once or twice. And I honestly don’t get the hype! But all the rest? I am right there with you! Have a nice weekend, my friend.
I have never gotten a ticket either, smiles. Wishing you a beautiful Saturday. smiles
