Welcome to the blog…and hello to Friday! I hope everyone had a good week and, well, a good month. Here we are at the end of another month and time to look back at “some of the things” from the past few weeks. It seems I just did one of these posts and I started July’s with a determination to be positive as July had been a month. This month has been much better. Not having to work quite as hard to “be positive” – lol! So I guess will start with the things I have loved…..
This month:
some things I have loved were – traveling to California. Making the trip with my son and, then, spending some extra one on one time with my brother. I loved being a tourist. Doing all the tourist things in the city. But just for a day. It was nice to get back to my brother’s apartment at the end of that day. The city is very (over)stimulating. My old body could not handle that for days on end. I loved having my brother cook for me. He enjoys making meals and, well, I enjoy someone else doing the work in the kitchen for a change:)
something I have learned is – as much as I am a homebody (and seem to be more and more of one of late), I really do enjoy traveling. The flying, or otherwise getting there, can be less than fun but I have found that a change of scenery and routine every now and then really does me well. Not only do I come home refreshed and refocused, but I tend to come home with more of a genuine appreciation for home. For my routine and my little corner of the world. And there is fun to be had in the process:)
some things that went well were– TSA. I have to admit it, although I don’t want to, but airport security both going to and coming home from California was a breeze. Like I remember it and like it should be it. I have talked to several who have flown this summer and I have heard some horror stories! But I am so grateful for the pleasant agents and all those who were in such pleasant moods when I was traveling. Dear TSA, this does not have to be hard and it really does make a difference. Just sayin.
something I need to let go of – trying to keep up…especially with my younger self. I’m not exactly a senior citizen but, truth is, there are some things that I just cannot do anymore. At least not in the same way I did ten years ago. I guess I am in a bit of denial but I’m often convincing myself that “you can do it” and I try. Often there is a price to pay for that. My younger self and I need to have a strong talk! I might not be able to go as far or as fast as I once did, but that’s okay. At some point, too many steps are just not worth the climb. That’s okay, too. Oh, and I think red-eye flights might be much better suited for my way young self!
Well friends…another Share Four Somethings post in the books. Check out the rest of the link-up here. But that starts tomorrow. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Let me know something that went well for you in August. And here’s to a great month ahead. As always, thanks for being here today.
So glad you had a nice month especially after a rough one… I agree with you regarding traveling. I love being home and the idea (and planning) of travel often does not always sound tantalizing. But I feel exactly how described during and after travel :). Something good in August was seeing a lot of my family at MG’s 2nd b-day party!
I’m sure the birthday party and family time was an August highlight. She is such a cutie!!
Your four somethings from August were interesting reads, Jennifer. I am glad your August was better for you. Something that went well in August was deciding to go up the day before (spending the night at my parents) so I could drive them to my dad’s 10:30 doctor’s appointment. Northern VA traffic in the morning is a nightmare. Enjoy these remaining days in August.
Northern VA traffic is rather nightmarish any time of day – ugh!! Coming up early was a great idea. Glad it worked out, Robin.
True about it being nightmarish any time of day!
I am glad your August was a nice one, it sure flew by, smiles. Wishing you a lovely day.
It was a quick one, Linda!
Jennifer, I am right there with you when it comes to “things I need to let go of”. This summer has been hard to try and keep everything going like I once did. I’m looking forward to autumn and a slower pace of life. xx
A little slower pace will not be a bad thing at all. Summer excitment and energy is fun but fall’s pace is sweet, too!
I definitely need little getaways from where I live in order to stay sane. We’ve had several of those quick little trips this year, with flight times 2 hours or less which is really nice. Thanks for stopping by my corner of the world recently. Take care.
Glad you stopped by Tammy!! Thanks!
Oh yes, I hate the airport stress and the actual act of traveling but I do enjoy seeing new places and nothing makes me more thankful for home than coming home after a trip and getting to sleep in my own bed again. It sounds like you had a really lovely month.
Yes, it was quite nice, Joanne. Here’s to a great Septemeber as well!
As you can well imagine, you are not alone in having to face the things you no longer can do. I’m there, too, and yes, there is often a price to pay when we try to be that younger person again. For one thing, the stamina is lacking.
Glad you could make that trip and especially glad TSA treated you well!
Back to back good experiences with TSA was a real treat, Barbara!!
I really enjoy travelling and discovering new places but like you do not love the plane travel. It is a means to get me to my destination, generally not something I enjoy. Ships, I’m fine with. Airport security was a good experience for D and myself when we went away recently too.
It can be frustrating not being able to do the things we once did but I’m trying to take one day at a time and listen to what my body is telling me. Sometimes I’m not a good listener.
Yay for a great trip to California and time with your brother. We only took night flights when we went overseas, I couldn’t imagine doing it now. I haven’t flown in over ten years and have no desire to. I hope you are doing well.
Looks like you had a good August! Glad you had a nice trip to CA! Enjoy September!
