Happy Monday, friends! I hope you had a good weekend. Mine was nice although there was a bit of unexpected “craziness.” Just a bit. And I was the one a tad crazy:) I color my own hair and Saturday night seemed like a perfect evening to get that task down. I slathered my head with what resembled black ink, covered it all with a plastic cap and then idled 30 minutes away while I waited for it to do its magic. I am always ready to get my hair washed when the time is up and I never let it set for longer than the 30 minutes. I also look forward to a steamy shower as part of the process:) I started the water, giving it plenty of time to create some steam, and started to step in. Thankfully, I did not step all the way. The water was ice cold. What!? Oh yes, our hot water decided to give up the ghost on Saturday evening (but failed to give me the heads-up).
The douse of cold weather got my attention, shall I say, but what about my hair? I was panicking. Trying to redress myself. Calling (um, yelling) for my husband. Who, of course, had to access the situation. As in, he had to run the water! Did I not just say there is not hot water?? All this while the clock is ticking and I am not sure what is happening to my hair!
But all’s well that ends well. My hair looks fine. Looks really nice, to be honest. We still have no hot water but our neighbor is going to install a new one either tomorrow or Tuesday. For much less than we had imagined! I would say that is happening tomorrow but, dont’ you know, that is the day we are meeting our visiting family in DC. We are really trying to work around that. Just a little something fun to keep things interesting around here!
My hair did not break off. Nor is it green. Which may or may not have been “cool” for tomorrow’s St. Patrick’s Day….but I will pass on green hair. As we are off and running this morning, I thought I would just have a little St. Patrick’s Day fun. Honestly, I do not know much about this Irish holiday. Apparently, Patrick, whom almost everyone calls “Saint Patrick,” (although he was never canonized by the Catholic Church) is actually from Scotland. As in, not even Irish. But his 30 years of missionary work in Ireland made him famous and the Irish have been celebrating March 17th (the day of his death) for over a millennium. I’m not Irish. I often forget to wear green. But a little Irish fun would be a good way to start this week. Enjoy…and whether you wear green tomorrow or not, I hope you have a fun day!!
Top o’ the morning! Let’s see if you have the luck of the Irish or if you’re just here for the snacks. Pick your favorites….
Wear green or Get Pinched
Rainbows or Shamrocks
Corned beef and cabbage or Shepherd’s pie
Irish soda bread or Potato Boxty
Lucky Charms for breakfast or McDonald’s Shamrock shake
Riverdance (step dancing) or sing along
Attend a parade or host a house party
Dublin vacation or a cozy cottage in the countryside
Green is my favorite color. I will certainly choose to wear something green:) My husband’s favorite meal is shepherd’s pie. I think I will make it for dinner tomorrow. He likes cabbage too, but I do not cook cabbage. Irish soda bread sounds super yummy right now, as does a shamrock shake. I have not been to McDonald’s in decades but doesn’t Chick Fil A have a green shake?? I would enjoy watching step dancing (not dancing myself!). I think those dancers are not only fun but so talented! The last one…I think that is city vs. country side. Give me a cozy cottage (and the countryside) any day. Thanks for stopping by today!
Oh my goodness! What a time for the hot water to go out! I would have panicked about the hair situation. I’m glad it turned out ok 🙂 As far as St. Patrick’s day is concerned…in school I never liked the color green and knew I was going to get pinched, for sure. Now, it’s just another day, with the exception of having to teach my granddaughters on that day. I’ve gathered some fun worksheets and info about St. Patrick and we will have some green snacks and Irish potatoes. Shepherd’s pie is a great choice!Sounds yummy 🙂
I bet you screamed when you hit that cold water! I’ve had that happen before, and it’s break-taking. I’m glad you have a neighbor who can help you out with this! Here’s to hoping all the details get ironed out. What a lovely weekend, and fun little St. Patrick’s day this or that. I’d heard that Patrick wasn’t even Irish…what in the world? Is this another day that we’ve made into more than what it is here in the US? It makes me laugh and roll my eyes…but like you, I love green and always participate in the day’s events. Have a fabulous Monday, my friend! xoxo
Glad your hair turned out okay, Jennifer! Our water heater gave up the ghost on New Year’s Day a few years back. There was only one company that advertised 24/7 and 365 days that responded to our call. Interesting tidbits about Saint Patrick. Here are my responses…
Wear green
Rainbows and Shamrocks
Corned beef and cabbage
Irish soda bread (what’s potato boxty)
Neither Lucky Charms for breakfast or McDonald’s Shamrock shake
Riverdance (step dancing)
Attend a parade
A cozy cottage in the countryside
Stay safe today with the storms.
Oh, this is a fun one – I actually have some Irish in my lineage, though I don’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. but I will play along!
Wear green or Get Pinched
Rainbows or Shamrocks – shamrocks since greens are my favorite colors
Corned beef and cabbage or Shepherd’s pie – Both are pretty yum – I do love cabbage
Irish soda bread or Potato Boxty – not sure I’ve ever had either!
Lucky Charms for breakfast or McDonald’s Shamrock shake – neither, please. ha!
Riverdance (step dancing) or sing along – also neither
Attend a parade or host a house party – I would attend a parade, I think
Dublin vacation or a cozy cottage in the countryside – can I combine both? (:
Happy Monday!
What a fun post!! I giggled a bit! Bless it. I am so glad your hair was fine!! 🙂
I wear green. I am very Scottish (not Irish) which a lot of people think because of my red hair. I love green and is a staple color.
I love cabbage but I do not like corned beef and not really a fan of Shepard’s pie bc of a bad experience with one. LOL!
Shamrocks
Irish Soda Bread
Lucky Charms
Singing
host a party
Dublin or both!!!!
Thanks for the fun!!!
Top of the morning to ye Jennifer and A Very Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Oh dear, not a good time for the hot water to go out, I would have jumped out of that shower much faster than I jumped in. I’m glad your hair turned out okay. I once colored my own hair and fell asleep. Oh dear, let’s just say I never did that again!
Wear green or Get Pinched: definitely wear green. I remember my St. Patrick’s Day in America. Someone asked me why wasn’t I wearing my green. Because I’m English not Irish I replied quietly and very confused. Oh my goodness, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day came the reply, and forever more I wore the green. I actually have extended family in Ireland.
I hope you had no problem with the storm. After battening everything down, we had heavy rain and that was about it.
Have a wonderful evening and thanks for another lovely post.
Rainbows or Shamrocks: I love both but shouldn’t ignore finding a shamrock.
Corned beef and cabbage or Shepherd’s pie: I love shepherd’s pie.
Irish soda bread or Potato Boxty: I have never had Potato Boxty and now I’m curious. I guess I will make Potato Boxty next time.
Lucky Charms for breakfast or McDonald’s Shamrock shake. Probably a shamrock shake
Riverdance (step dancing) or sing along. Definitely sing along for me.
Attend a parade or host a house party. Attend a parade.
Dublin vacation or a cozy cottage in the countryside. A cozy cottage in the countryside as I’m a country girl at heart. I have been to Dublin many years ago before I met hubby, to visit our extended family.
Ha, this was a fun post. Your story telling is so good, you had me laughing. And at the same time I was hoping you would be fine and your hair would be lovely. I was hoping for a happy ending. 🙂
