Happy Monday friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. It was a beautiful one here and we tried hard to take full advantage of the lovely weather and some fall activities. It is definitely the time of year for outside fun. There are plenty of fair, festivals, orchard fun, markets and the list goes on. I enjoy all of them…especially while the weather is so nice. Here is a little look at my weekend. I would love to hear a highlight from yours, if you care to leave a comment.
an evening downtown – we started the weekend with an evening in the city. We went to the Museum of the Bible for a play. You needed separate tickets in order to wander around the museum at all, so we did not get to see anything of the exhibits, but it was a beautiful museum. I can only imagine that the exhibits are topnotch. The play was certainly well done. It was Pilgrim’s Progress which, if you can believe it, I have never read so I was unfamiliar with the details of the story. Wow…it was so interesting. My husband and I both really enjoyed the show. We also had dinner downtown. We considered taking the Metro one stop to the restaurant but since it was such a pretty evening, we decided to walk. This would have been a perfect plan if the security guard outside of the museum had not steered us in the wrong direction. We walked several blocks before finally figuring out we were headed in the wrong direction. Bummer. We had to completely backtrack and, basically, begin again. But I did log more steps on my little Fitbit than I ever have before in one day. And probably ever will again – lol! It was worth it. Dinner was delicious.
We ate at Carmine’s. Great service and good food – which makes for a win. But the meals were served family style. The portions were big enough for three to four people. Which would have been great if we had three or four people. There were no options for smaller sizes. I thought it was a unique concept/idea, if not a bit…different. Of course, they give you all the extras to take home but we were headed to the show. And I’m pretty sure the salad would not have survived even if we had gone straight home. The food was, however, delicious while we ate at the restaurant:)
our first fall festival of the season – Saturday morning, we headed to a festival not too far from home. The entire downtown was blocked off and the festivities were in the streets. Again, it was a crisp, beautiful autumn morning so we enjoyed walking around. But, overall, the festival was a bit underwhelming. So many of the booths were nothing more than businesses taking opportunity to advertise. And quite a few churches. I guess they don’t advertise but there were a lot of them with booths for something. There were a lot of food vendors but we were there early and not exactly ready for festival fare! We bought nothing. Well, except for a fall-inspired coffee which was amazingly delicious. I did not even know that coffee shop was there so I guess that discovery made the morning a win!
some fall on the front porch – we finally got around to putting some mums, scarecrows, pumpkins (and a new Welcome Hound) on the front porch. I feel like we are a bit late to the game but it is done now. Hooray. I would not say it is our best porch arrangement but it looks happy. And fall-like. So yeah for us:) Sometime in the weeks leading up to Saturday, I must have spent a bit too much time on Pinterest (at least, I am going to blame Pinterest!) and I got this idea for a hay bale on the porch. I purchased said hay bale earlier last week and had visions of our scarecrows and mums nestled around a hay bale. Um, no. That bundle of hay was nothing but a mess! Hay was everywhere and nothing looked good on/around/behind/or even near that thing. Maybe I am just a city-girl amateur but that hay bale ended up in the garbage. Yes, a bit of a waste (it was only a few bucks) but a lesson learned. Just stick to what we enjoy and what I know works. Which, apparently, is not hay bales!!
The rest of the weekend was spent preparing for my Junior Church class and a bit of college football…and then church on Sunday. Yesterday afternoon, I worked on my Bible study. Then, just like that, the weekend is a wrap. Here’s to a good week ahead. The forecasters tell me it is supposed to be another dandy of a week. I’m holding them to it! As always, I’m glad you stopped by –
we used to go to so many festivals where we used to live but since we moved here, I hardly go to any! I should look for some. Love your porch decor!!
Thanks Karen! And, yes, trying to find a fall festival or two near you would probably be fun:)
It sounds like a nice weekend and I love the porch decor, especially the dog. I’ve never read Pilgrim’s Progress either and I’d love to see that play. Our weekend was quiet mostly, but I went to my sisters and watched her make bread, which was fun and delicious! Hope you have a great week.
A weekend with homemade bread sounds like a good weekend to me, Cathy!:)
We went to the Museum of the Bible last year and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately we did not have time to see everything there since we were with a church group and was scheduled to take a tour of the Capitol building. It’s our hope to go back and see the rest of the museum someday. We love DC and its history. I love the welcome hound, so cute! I love autumn decorating.
I hope we are able to go back to the museum sometime as well! Thanks for stopping by, Dawn!!
Your front porch looks great with the pumpkin and welcome hound. I only have a few Autumn decorations and so far they haven’t made it out of the box this year.
The Bible museum sounds interesting. I’ve never heard of something like that before. I must read Pilgrims Progress too. It is on my book list.
Have a great week.
I think I need to put the book on my TBR list as well – but, well, I know how it ends! LOL Thanks for your kind comment, Beverley!
Sorry to hear the festival was underwhelming. We haven’t gone to a festival in a long time. But you had a great dinner and show so that’s good.
Hoping for better luck with a festival this weekend:) I think it will be a lot of fun!!
Hello! Oh, you know I love to hear about all the fall things! I love your porch decorations. They are so warm, cozy, and inviting. Have a cozy evening, my friend. I am in my jammies, all set on the couch!
Thanks BillieJo!!
Sounds like a wonderful weekend!
Yes, it was very nice. Here’s to another nice ahead for all of us!
Your front porch is very fall festive- really like it! I have not read Pilgrim´s Progress either. Did seeing the play make you want to read the book? Watching college football- love it!!
I think it would be interesting to read the book. Perhaps as a comparison. But then again, I am such a lazy reader….I’d probably lose interest since I already know what is going to happen!!:)
Hay bales: ah yes. I had a similar experience years ago and I agree with you completely: WHAT A MESS!! You can now check that item off of your bucket list!
As for our weekend, just getting ready for Hurricane Milton….. and now we wait his arrival. Thankfully (for us, anyway) he has changed his course a little more to the south. While he originally was expected to go right over us here, we are no longer inside “the cone” of prediction (just a little outside of it). We’ll take that.
Barbara, I pray you are doing well this morning and that you and all yours are safe…without much damage and storm impact!
That welcome pup reminds me of the University of Tennessee mascot, Smokey. So cute. Your mums look lovely, too. I have used bales of hay in a wheelbarrow I used to decorate for holidays. It was a mess but I managed to get it into a large garbage bag to store it and reused it for several years. Haven’t done the first bit of decorating yet…PC has to get my pumpkins out so I can decorate. He has promised to do that next Thursday!!
Glad you discovered a new coffee shop with delicious coffee. Fall mornings are so delightful. I am looking forward to getting this boot off so we can go for some morning walks. Our downtown has a farmer’s market I would like to visit.
Hope this weekend you have some more seasonal adventures.
