Who am I? A wife for almost 40 years. A mom for over 36 years. A sister and a friend, of course. Each of these help describe me. But, even more, I have been a Christian since accepting Him as my Savior when I was 12 years old and, this truth defines each area of my life. I have enjoyed some mountain top experiences but have been through some very deep valleys as well. Valleys of incredible grief and even pits of depression. However, most of my days are ordinary, routine kind of days. But in every one of my days, God has been faithful. He has walked with me whatever the day. He strengthens, comforts, encourages and blesses me with life "most abundant."

A favorite life verse: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10

Why do I write? Though not quite as private as my dad, I am definitely my father's daughter. I find it difficult to share. And to let others in. But I do love to write. I love to put words into sentences and sentences in paragraphs that help express my thoughts. I hope my words help me share my heart. Share the life that God has given me and all that He has done for me and through me. I write with the hope of giving Him at least a bit of the glory He is due.

A verse to guide my writing: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. I Peter 1:7

True Beauty is in Nature

Hello friends….and I’m so glad you made your way back to my blog.  I have returned from vacation..which was wonderful, but it is always nice to return home as well!  The laundry is sorted, we have milk in the fridge again, and I am slowly getting my “land legs” back (so odd to feel wobbly even when back on shore).  Today, I am getting caught up here at the computer and a blog post seems in order.  Joyce’s link-up seems like the perfect way to jump back in to the world of blogs:)  I have not read the questions yet, but let’s see how this goes……

1. How do you define beauty? Well, my goodness, how did I jump right in with such a deep question??  Making my brain work already!!  When I think of beauty, or something beautiful, I immediately think of nature.  Especially God’s creation. That said, I think I would define beauty as that which leaves me in awe…or takes my breath away.  Something that is original, detailed in design and pleasing (for lack of a better word) to see or enjoy.  And doesn’t that just describe God’s handiwork??

2. Have you ever taken a trip by train? If so where did you go and what did you think of the experience? If not do you have any desire to do so? Where would you like to go?  I have never taken a trip by train.  Well, I did take the Amtrak commuter train to NYC one time but I’m not sure that was a trip.  Maybe??  I do not think I would want to take a trip (aka “vacation”) by train.
3. Shell shocked, bombshell, bandshell, shellacking, in a nutshell, walking on eggshells…choose one and tell us why you chose it, or how it relates to your life in some way currently.  Walking on eggshells (sigh).  Life situations have improved but my brain seems to remain on high alert.  I find myself “walking on eggshells” even when I should not be, but it is a work in progress.4. Tacos, pistachios, oysters, clams, eggs…your favorite food on the list that comes in/with a shell?  I eat eggs every single morning so I should choose eggs.  Pistachios would be a close second but I don’t eat them very often.

5. Are birthdays a big deal in your house? Is your own birthday a big deal in some way? Elaborate.  We try to make birthdays special but I would not say they are a big deal.  Certainly not like they were when the children were little.  My birthday is the most low-key around here…which is exactly how I like it.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  Next on my list of things to do (post vacation) is to sort through photos.  I hope to share a few on Friday.  Spoiler alert, we did not see one fall-colored leaf.  However, the weather was delightful.  Perhaps a bit warmer than usual for mid-September but there were no complaints from me.  Eastern Canada was beautiful (see the above definition…it fits perfectly).  I am grateful for our trip.  And grateful to be home.  And…grateful you stopped by today!!  Happy Hodge Podge Day:)

  2. I’m glad you’re back, safe and sound, and with good memories to boot! Agree about nature being beautiful- God’s handiwork is evident everywhere. I prefer low key birthday celebrations as well. And I used to eat an egg every day as part of my brunch. Now I’m working during the brunch hour(s) so I’m no longer a lady who brunches, lol Looking forward to seeing pics of your vacation :).

  3. So glad you had a wonderful trip. I’ll look forward to seeing some pictures. We are still in mostly full on summer temperatures here, but I’m trying to pretend it’s fall. If we drive just thirty minutes up into the mountains it’s ten degrees cooler and there is a hint of color change. I always miss my NJ backyard this time of year as it was a sea of gold. Enjoy easing back in to everyday life here .

  4. I’m the same way on my own birthday, and I am perfectly content with that! I like to spoil my husband on his birthday because he enjoys it. My adult children? They usually do their own birthdays – football games, baseball, concerts, hiking, trips, etc. We try to get together, but they usually have their own plans.
