Who am I? A wife for almost 40 years. A mom for over 36 years. A sister and a friend, of course. Each of these help describe me. But, even more, I have been a Christian since accepting Him as my Savior when I was 12 years old and, this truth defines each area of my life. I have enjoyed some mountain top experiences but have been through some very deep valleys as well. Valleys of incredible grief and even pits of depression. However, most of my days are ordinary, routine kind of days. But in every one of my days, God has been faithful. He has walked with me whatever the day. He strengthens, comforts, encourages and blesses me with life "most abundant."

A favorite life verse: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10

Why do I write? Though not quite as private as my dad, I am definitely my father's daughter. I find it difficult to share. And to let others in. But I do love to write. I love to put words into sentences and sentences in paragraphs that help express my thoughts. I hope my words help me share my heart. Share the life that God has given me and all that He has done for me and through me. I write with the hope of giving Him at least a bit of the glory He is due.

A verse to guide my writing: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. I Peter 1:7

What I Need More Than Oreos

Without overthinking it, finish this sentence.  I just wish I had (a little) more _______________.

More hours in my day?   More peace and quiet?  More sleep?  More Oreos??

Well, the Oreos just slipped in there.  Some days, all I really need is one more Oreo:)  Are there ever too many??  Maybe some would be fine with a life without Oreos but, no doubt, everyone has lamented the desire for more hours in a day.  More time – and the chance it allows them to get more done.  To do more.

I read an interesting thought recently that really convicted me.  It also really connected with today’s Five Minute Prompt of MORE.  Here is the idea – taken from a devotional version of Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth’s book, Lies Women Believe  – as well as my five minutes worth.

GO – Nancy said, regarding the lie that we can thrive without consistent prayer and time in God’s word, that our enemy, Satan, is happy (even encourages us, if you will) if we fill our lives and schedules with a lot of things “for God” without truly seeking God.  We “may stir up a lot of religious dust, but we won’t do Satan’s kingdom any real damage.”

And how very good we are at filling up our day planners and agendas!  Very often, even most often, we are busy doing good and worthwhile things.  We may even long for more time in order… well, to do more good things.  We are so “good” at all we do, we often do it in our strength.  Exactly how the enemy wants us to go about our days.  In our own strength and with our own wisdom, we really are ineffective and of no threat to our enemy.  And, just that quickly and easily,  all of our “doing good” comes between us and our savior.  Between us and our true source of power and effectiveness.

We don’t need more time or more hours.  We need to prioritize the 24 hours we are given.  We need to give the first of our hours/days to the Lord.  We need to seek His wisdom for how best to spend the day before us.  Beginning each day with Bible reading and prayer is the best way to make the most of each day.

STOP – Going back to the question at the beginning of this post.  More quality time with Christ Jesus is a true and worthwhile answer for all of us.

“One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.”  Psalms 27:4
