Happy Monday! I just realized since I was away for several Mondays, I did not get a daybook entry done for the month of June. Hello fifth Monday of the month and just enough time to squeak one in. Hard to believe but this time tomorrow, June will be in the history books for this year. Time to turn the calendar already. I suppose it is because I was traveling a bit this month, but this month went quickly for me. Better get some thoughts down in words before July officially arrives. As always, I start with weather….
The Weather – has been incredibly hot. Like much of the east coast (and other parts of the country), we had a heat wave in June. Something about a heat dome. Don’t understand all about that but the thermometer was over 100 degress multiple days in a row. We finally had a full day of rain this past Friday and lower temps. Surprisingly, the grass is not yet scorched. But the air conditioning cannot catch a break. It seems to be running non-stop. Last daybook, I mentioned that the dog was not a fan of summer storms. She is , however, a huge fan of hot. She begs to go outside all.day.long. And would stay out there for – I don’t know how long? Until she passed out? – if we let her. But we don’t so, instead, we play this game of “let the dog out…let the dog in” pretty much all day. It is not a game that I super enjoy.
As I look outside my window – I’m still waiting for our crepe myrtle to bloom. I see this ever year. As in, ever year. You’d think I would learn it is a slow bloomer. A really late bloomer. But, each year, when I see all the other crepe myrtles filling out with beautiful blooms, I want my front yard to look just as pretty. But, I am waiting. The front of the house looks a bit more festive. I decided to switch out the mat, the garden flag, and bought some Fourth of July inspired pillow covers for the rockers. I had not really planned to do so, but one day I was just feeling patriotic, I suppose. I can’t exactly see the porch outside my window but thought a mention was in order.
This morning, I am – getting back on schedule with my cleaning. I mentioned it several weeks ago (more like a month ago) and things were going well. The house was in good shape and I was feeling productive but not overwhelmed. (Have a I mentioned a few hundred times that I like routine?) But I totally got off schedule when I was out of town for three weeks. Last week was me just being lazy. But today, I’m back at it. I just love Mondays. The pushing of the reset button just does me a world of good.
Lately, I have been thinking about – change. There is a season of change coming in my life. And in my heart. When you are someone like me who really likes routine and scheduled days, change can bring challenges. I dont’ mind some change. A bit of change. I try to schedule change into my routine – lol. But a whole up-turning of the apple cart can be daunting. I am learning to be flexible. Learning to embrace change. To even be excited and to see the potential for all the good and the positive that can come with change. But learning these things is a slow process.
What I am wearing – all the summer clothes. My favorite clothes. Like white shirts. I am a sucker for white shirts. I just ordered another one this week. Also wearing all the fun earrings. And sandals that show my cute pedicure colors. Oh, and dresses. Lots and lots of dresses.
Around the house – I painted the backdoor. The one that leads in from the garage. The color is lighter and I wasn’t sure I was going to love it. I had just picked it up as a sample last year and decided to use it before it went to waste. I was so pleasantly surprised. It is so fresh looking. I am super happy…and rather inspired to give a few others things a fresh new color.
My To-Do List – includes working on the summer lesson series for Junior Church. The new series begins this coming Sunday. We will be learning the fruits of the spirit. I have so many games, fun crafts and cool snack ideas filling my Pinterest board and running through my head as well. I need to get it all organized. I wrote a song to help us memorize them but, that too, is still just in my head. I should get it down on paper before it disappears, but I am not very good with putting (musical) notes to paper. I think the kids are going to have fun with this series of lessons. We just finished up the Beatitudes. That was really fun as well but those lessons were a bit tough for some of the younger ones. I was challenged to find a way to make them applicable for everyone. The fruits of the spirits should be a bit easier – and a lot of fun.
And, from my camera – Be still my heart. My sweet buddy, Tyler, turned two on Friday. His current obsession is airplanes. Just so happens that his daddy works at the airport. Guess who got to go for a real airplane ride for his birthday? I just love this picture. The sweaty hair just melts me!!:)
Well, here’s to a great week ahead. This week includes a holiday. Do you have plans? How do you “celebrate” the Fourth? Probably with food – lol!! It’s always about the food, isn’t it?? Enjoy. I hope you will stop back by later in the week and glad you were here today!
What a cutie Tyler is! Your porch looks very inviting with its red, white, and blue attire. It will be an at-home day on the Fourth. Probably steaks or salmon with a watermelon salad. Oh, and ice cream! I’ll watch A Capitol Fourth during the evening. Get my fill of fireworks from the comfort of my home. Have a wonderful week, Jennifer!
Awww…the little guy is growing up so quickly…and he’s still just as adorable!
Love your patriotic themed porch items, too…especially the pillows
It has cooled off here because of the rain. Hope to see your crepe myrtle in bloom. What a cutie pie! Thanks for sharing your daybook!
Celebrating the 4th with food: I am trying to decide on a festive dessert for just the two of us….
Happy 4th to you!
Hello, my friend. Your little one is adorable! Two is a fun age, and gets a bad wrap, don’t you think?? I enjoyed your thoughts here today and can empathize with your need for a schedule and the certainty of life changes. Flynn only has three more years of schooling. I am already anxious about how that will affect me. I have been a teacher, mother, or both for almost thirty years. Sigh. Have a cozy day and stay cool!
Tyler is adorable.
Your crepe myrtle are not in bloom? They love hot full sun!
I can’t believe June is almost over! It flew by in a jiffy! Our Crape Myrtle is a late bloomer, also. All of the others in our neighborhood are in full bloom and ours only has a few blooms. Hope you have a great week!
Oh Tyler would melt a snowmans heart. What a cutie, and how special he loves planes…Maybe someday he will be a pilot. We have a grandson who has is solo license and after collage will enlist with the Coast Guard.
I love the summer colors of pedicures and I love dresses and white tops. I have many.
Enjoyed all the activies you are involved with. I love the study of the Fruit of the Spirit. The kids will love it…I’m sure the song will come along.
Tyler is such a sweet little boy Jennifer, so adorable! Happy Birthday Tyler! Thank you for the lovely read and all the pretty photos. I wish you all a happy July and a very Happy 4th of July!
That is such a cute photo of Tyler. I’m sure he loved his birthday flight. What a wonderful treat.
Your porch looks beautiful and all ready for 4th July. I hope that iit s a safe and special day for you all.
I’m sure all the children will be blessed and have fun with all the activities you have planned for them on ‘The fruits of the Spirit’.
What a cute little guy you have there. And a fun airplane ride. That’s nice that you will be teaching summer lessons at your church. I just got finished watching The Chosen, Season 5, and it was really good with important messages in each episode. Your door wreath is pretty for summer, and I sure do like that yellow ducky floater.
I hope the July days are pleasant ones for you.

Nice to catch up with you. I don’t do real well with change, either. And I love my routine, agendas, daily regimen…which all seems to elude me lately. I am adjusting to having PC home and we have done very well but I am never home alone and never able to go out to shop or run errands without ‘company.’
Surprised your crepe myrtle hasn’t bloomed. I never dreamed they could grow here at all but by golly, I have seen a number of them this year. Hope yours is soon full of beautiful blooms.
Hope your lessons and activities for junior church go well. My sister is helping with VBS at her church this year. She is a retired teacher/librarian but opted to volunteer in the office this summer for VBS. I enjoy kids so would want to be in the thick of things.
Your lil buddy is a precious angel. Hope you can snuggle him again soon.
