Happy Monday! And welcome to a new week. I’m excited for this week as my hubby and I are headed out of town for a couple of days. Headed to Lancaster, PA which I have often said is my happy place. I so enjoy spending time in Lancaster and we have not been in over a year. (The photo above is from our last visit and I think it was actually two years ago!) Breathing some farm fresh is long overdue. I wanted to get a post up before I left (at least for Monday) and was looking through last month’s posts to see when I did a daybook entry for September. And there was none!?! What? I have done a daybook post every month this year. Until last month. Huge sigh. Well, there will be one for October. I say let’s do it today:) As always, I will start with weather….
The Weather – has been rather spectacular. As beautiful as fall can be. Well, I suppose the leaves have some more changing to do but there are definitely pops of color here and there. I love the cool evenings/nights and days that warm up nicely. Much of the east coast had lots of rain this past weekend. Several homes along the shore (in NC) were lost – which is always devastating to read. But we had plenty of sunshine and just a touch of rain yesterday morning. On Saturday, we went to a fall festival. It is fall festival season and we really look forward to different ones in the area each weekend. Apparently, so do a lot of other folks. The crowds were huge on Saturday…but look at those blue skies and pretty white clouds!! No complaints about the weather here.
As I look outside my window – the Halloween decorations multiple every evening. Sometimes it seems if there is some sort of competition (that I am not at all aware of) and neighbors try to outdo the last yard decorated. So much work (and stuff) put into making the most elaborate spooky displays.
This morning, I am – on the road! Woo Hoo!! And can I say that road trips with just two old people are so easy to “throw together” and to get out the door?!! Just one more perk of this season of life:)
Lately, I have been thinking about – the holidays. It is no secret that I tend to struggle with the holidays. Well, with Christmas. I am determined to do things differently this year. The difference, in large part, being with my attitude. I cannot manage everyone’s expectations but I can manage my own. There is much that can be said about this but, for now, I will just say it is something I have been thinking much about lately.
What I am wearing – cute fall-themed (or fall inspired) t-shirts and sweatshirts. (So far, I have only worn a sweatshirt once but I did pack one for Pennsylvania.) I don’t wear tons of graphic tees but, for some reason, I cannot resist buying them for the fall season. Sure, they are a bit hokey. But every year, I buy another one. Or two.
Around the house – I added some crocheted pumpkins to my seasonal decor. My girlfriend made me one and I was inspired. I have struggled to do anything with my crochet but I actually made a pumpkin! Does it look even half as neat, tidy and professional as hers? Um, no. But I was happy to be able to set out something that I actually completed. And…it only took me two tries (yes I had to undo the first attempt. sigh)
My To-Do List – I suppose I should have some sort of to-do list for when we return from our trip. For the end of this week. But, then again, why think that far ahead? I am just going to enjoy these few days away. Whatever might need to be on a to-do list can simply wait until I return.
And, from my camera – the Grand Canyon:) My son did some hiking there yesterday. I have never been. Don’t know that I will ever get there. So I travel vicariously through others’ photos!! Have a great week, friends!

I love to revisit the Grand Canyon – don’t know if I would hike it, but sitting and gazing at it for hours? Yes!
Definitely not up for a hike myself!! LOL
Enjoy your time away in Lancaster, Jennifer! I haven’t been to Lancaster in many years, so I hope to live it through your pictures. Okay? I think your pumpkin is adorable. While I have never made one, I do purchase them. That reminds me, I need to get them out for the fall. Have a beautiful week!
Thank you, Robin. We really did enjoy our visit!
Great job on the pumpkin! That is very neat- you should be proud of yourself for making something like that. I hope you have a great time in Lancaster. I´ve been in the area once and it was really was pretty. We have lots of farmland near us (though granted that area is prettier than ours…) and I´m not sure if we´ll make it back there but I would like to. Have a safe trip and take lots of pics :).
Thanks Maria. I have to admit, I felt rather accomplished:) Would never imagine crocheting something that did not need to be ripped out…lol!
Enjoy your time in Lancaster. I live in the neighboring York County but have lived in Lancaster through my teen years and my parents are still there. It really is a beautiful place and this time of year you won’t get too much of the manure smells.
Dawn – how nice to have grown up in Lancaster. Although I’m sure, as kids and teens, we don’t really appreciate the area where we grow up. At least not in terms of how pretty it is:)
I’ve always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon. What a spectacular photo. Your photo of the Lancaster area reminds me of where I grew up in upstate NY. Very nostalgic. Lancaster has a big Amish population, doesn’t it? Enjoy your time there! Have a great week.
Yes, very large Amish population. Almost 500,000!!
Hello, my lovely friend! Lancaster is a wonderful place! We drive through there often, and I always love it when we stop. Your son’s picture is beautiful! I, like you, live vicariously through my child! Peyton is out west with her husband, and I enjoy the photos she sends back. Enjoy and relax! See you back here soon.
Thanks Billie Jo. Glad to have gotten away –
I’m so excited for you, Jennifer, that you get to spend a few days away with your hubby …and that you are going to Lancaster. That’s such a beautiful area. I know you will enjoy the peace and quiet there. Looking forward to seeing some pictures.
Loved the little crocheted pumpkin! It’s adorable. Makes me want to look for a pattern to make one of my own.
And your son’s picture of the Grand Canyon is stunning!
Lancaster is, indeed, such a pretty area. Glad to be home as well, though:)
Jennifer, that picture of Lancaster is so gorgeous! I would love to see it in person. And how exciting to take a trip. Is that called a vacation? I haven’t had one in so long, I’ve forgotten 🙂 But yes, much easier to pack up two “old” people, than it was to pack for the entire family. We went to the Grand Canyon one year, on our Route 66 tour. We stayed for 45 minutes and I had a death grip on each of my sons, as I watched the less frantic moms not holding on to their kids. After 45 minutes of looking at the big hole in the ground, we left. I think I was more fascinated with the giant moose that just roamed through the park. Those were a sight to see. I can’t wait to see your pictures from your week away. I hope you have an amazing trip!
He did not stay at the Grand Canyon as long as he had planned. He was impressed but once you hike for an hour or so…well, it looks the same. Or so he said:)
