Hello friends and happy Monday. I mentioned last week that I was looking forward to the weekend….and it did not disappoint. I’ll confess, Monday morning has started off as, well, a Monday morning! But the weekend was definitely worth highlighting. So, this is my weekend in review……
MOST IMPROMPTU PART OF THE WEEKEND….I did a bit of running around on Friday but was home early and, basically, had the whole evening in front of me – with little to nothing to do. I was texting a friend back and forth about plans, etc. and she casually mentioned she was headed out to grab some dinner and I could join her, if I liked. I was out the door in five minutes. Nothing fancy but a bit implusive for me. I am usually a planner and do not do too much (do not do enough!) things “spur of the moment.” What looked like a boring evening at home turned out to be a very nice night! Note to self: say yes much more often. Especially last minute.
MOST IMPRESSED WITH MYSELF PART OF THE WEEKEND…..my girlfriend was in town this weekend. She had traveled up with her daughter (and most adorable grandson) who was visiting some of her friends in DC. The two of us had a full day together on Saturday; however, she was without a vehicle. No problem – I planned to pick her up at the Metro (our local train transit). There are Metro stations throughout the area but, apparently, they are not all created equal. The one on Saturday was in a very congested area, was not easy to find and was an underground stop with no parking once outside. I was rather impressed when I not only found my friend (standing on the sidewalk) but got in and out of there as fast I could!!
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE WEEKEND….was actually a cookie. I love cookies. I’ve often said there isn’t a cookie I couldn’t like – but I was wrong. We decided to try a bakery that is much talked about in that area. This bakeshop has two locations (the other is in the city) and is known for all sorts of vegan cupcakes and goodies, but has non-vegan as well. I was curious about a vegan cupcake but when I got there, all of the homemade cookies – the size of a small plate – caught my eye. Like I said, it is hard for me to resist a cookie. So, I ordered two:) A lemon blueberry and an oatmeal based one with chocolate and other goodies in it. Not only were they disappointing, they just were not good. So incredibly sad but true. Maybe I should stuck with the idea of satisfying my vegan curiousity (since that is apparently what they are known for) but I truly doubt I will ever go back. Sigh.
WHERE I SURPRISED MYSELF DURING THE WEEKEND….I noticed, after doing my friendly diet challenge for five weeks now and eating virtually no sweet, that I really don’t enjoy sweets/desserts any more. I had decided this weekend was going to be a “free” one and I was simply going to enjoy myself while my friend was in town. Maybe that is one reason I didn’t like the cookie (actually it was just not good – my husband would not eat it either) but there were several opportunities for brownie desserts and ice cream sundaes but none of it appealed to me. At all. Surprising? Sorta but I will take it.
MOST LAUGHS DURING THE WEEKEND….we saw a local theater production of Freaky Friday, the Musical. It was really good – as in, really really good. The songs (and the singing) were fantastic and there were a lot of super cute, as well as funny scenes and lines! It is no secret that I don’t have much of a sense of humor but I laughed quite a bit (for me) that night. I didn’t even know Freaky Friday was a musical…but it was a great evening!
CUTEST PART OF THE WEEKEND….my sweet little buddy, Tyler. I did not see him nearly as much as his Nana but it was great to spend, at least, a little time with him (and his mama) last night. The weather has not been quite as oppressive and we got a bite to eat after church and then spent some time on the playground. He mostly charms all the other children:) They all headed back home today and since they are both school teachers, I probably will not see them again until next summer. Huge sigh. He will be two!! Goodness. Happy for the fun this weekend, though.

Sounds like a great weekend! Glad you said yes and had a fun evening with a friend. And glad you said yes to the cookies even though they were a bust. Now you know! The musical sounds fun- there is nothing quite like live good music. I hope your week is as good as your weekend :).
Glad you had a fun time! Tyler is adorable!
hugs
Donna
It sounds like you had a really nice weekend. Tyler is sure a cutie. I love to see live plays, but it’s been years since I’ve been to one. Hope you have a good week.
Hi Jennifer! It sounds like you had a nice weekend. I’m also a planner, but I find that impromptu invitations and plans can sometimes be the most enjoyable. I’m glad you said yes! Tyler is such a cute little guy! I know you enjoyed spending time with him. Have a great day!
Hello! I am so happy you had a wonderful weekend with your friend. I know exactly what you mean about the cookies. I have found that those cookies don’t taste as good as they look. Of course, I have been spoiled by Peyton’s baking! Have a lovely afternoon, my friend.
I’m late getting here…again, but I want you to know that I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about your weekend with your friend, her daughter and that darling little Tyler being in town. I’m also a planner so not great about doing a lot of spur of the moment things, but I am proud of you for doing that…and for enjoying your spur of the moment dinner out with a friend. I need to be more like that.
Aw, he sure is a cutie! That musical sounds wonderful though I had no idea they made Freaky Friday into a musical either.
