So glad you stopped by today. I hope you have been having a good week. As today is the first Wednesday of the month, it is time for another Currently post. The whole Currently link-up can be found here on Jen’s blog. For me…let’s just jump in! Currently, I am
loving – my Thanksgiving decor. All of the pilgrims are out of their bin and tucked here and there. Thanksgiving is, without a doubt, my favorite holiday and I really enjoy decorating for it. I know there is a push to go from fall (and/or Halloween) things straight to Christmas, but I am all about enjoying Thanksgiving first. My turkeys and pilgrims will stay out until December 6th, at least. (That is my hubby’s birthday and we have always waited until after “his day” before we start to think about Christmas. Well, at least before we do any decorating.) Much of my Thanksgiving decor has been with us for many years. I would love to add a few new things but it is getting harder and harder to simply find new tableware or placemats for the Thanksgiving meal. I did go to a few local stores this year but there was nothing. Well, there was one Thanksgiving mug. A Peanuts one. Super cute but, honestly, that was it. Sigh. If you see any stray pilgrims (or turkeys) out there, please let me know. I will give them a good home:)
looking forward to – the end of election season. Actually, when you read this (tomorrow morning), it will be over. And not a minute too soon. If Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, well, election time is the most aggravating one! I also have to confess that I am (sorta/kinda) looking forward to the end of this year’s Bible study. We are studying Exodus and, for me, it has gotten very tedious. Most of my friends seem to really be enjoying it. The problem, evidently, lies with me…or my attitude. But I will be ready for this one to end and for a small break before we resume in January. Not sure what next semester’s study will be but, regardless, I am looking forward to it!
smelling – in a literal sense, my new hot fudge brownie wax melt. It is as nice as it sounds. In a much more figurative sense, I am smelling all the scents of Thanksgiving. Roasted turkey. Yeast rolls. Sweet potatoes with marshmallows melting over the top. And the pies. Of course, the pies. I am not even a huge pie fan but I’ve already taken dessert requests from my family and “pie” was unanimous. And apple pie at that. My least favorite pie. But I much more enjoy the baking than the eating when it comes to dessert. And, yes, apple pie really does smell good…so there is that, too! My son is a huge fan of cookies and he actually requested apple pie cookies. Have you ever heard of such things? Ever made them? If so, I would love to know what you think!
preparing for – Christmas! Did you think I was going to say Thanksgiving??:) I am about half-way done with Christmas shopping and would really like to get the wrapping done soon. Or in the next week or two. We have tickets for one holiday concert and I would like to make plans for, at least, one more. We are also having company at the beginning of December so there has been some preparing for that too. We gave the guestroom a refresh and have been making plans for those few days. I don’t need a jammed packed calendar for the holidays but I do like to enjoy them. We really enjoy concerts, holiday markets and Christmas plays, so I am often looking for new ones each year.
thankful for – for so very much. For this “quiet” season before the holiday rush begins; for cozy blankets on the bed and even for brisk temperatures in the morning (when I crawl out of those blankets); holiday-inspired coffee drinks; a husband who enjoys Christmas shopping; crock pot season; hearing from family after it has been too long (just to hear their voice!); lunch dates with friends; Sunday mornings with “my kiddos”; and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. To be known as child or God, or a Christian, is a gift continually amazes me.
Thanks again for coming by the blog today. Let me know something you are thankful for today. I would love to hear it!! Enjoy the rest of your week:)
I was sorry to read about the big election result in your state. I saw the newly elected governor in an interview spew some “word salad” regarding whether or not boys should be able to go in girls’ locker rooms and play on girls’ teams depending on how they (the boys feel). Yikes! Heaven help us and I mean that in the literal sense as much as the figurative one. Onto more pleasant topics- I have never heard of a brownie wax melt but I will check that out- it sounds intriguing. I’ve also never heard of apple pic cookies but they sound really good and I think I will look for a recipe for them. The line, “All the pilgrims are out of their bin…” brought a smile to my face. I love that you have pilgrims!! Have a great day!
I’m loving all the pilgrims! I did see a lot of Thanksgiving decor at Hobby Lobby and it should be there for the next few weeks. I think it would be fun to collect a variety of pilgrims 🙂 Our very first year of homeschooling, my husband and 6 year old son made a replica of the Mayflower out of cardboard and craft sticks. We kept that thing for the longest time. I don’t even think schools teach about the pilgrims any more and if they do, it’s a tainted version of how horrible they were. Boy have times changed! Happy November! Have a great week 🙂
Oh please don’t say it…the schools don’t teach about the pilgrims. That (on the heels of yesterday’s election) is just so discouraging. All the more reason I better pull those pilgrims out of the basement every year!!:) And good idea about Hobby Lobby. I am going to make a trip there tomorrow!
I enjoyed reading your Currently post, Jennifer. I have gotten the November decor out and up. I love the month of November and of course, Thanksgiving. Your pilgrims looks awesome. While I haven’t been, one of my friends says Hobby Lobby and Home Goods have Thanksgiving related items. If you are looking for handcrafted, then check out Etsy. I love apple pie, but not a fan of pumpkin pie. Let us know if you find a recipe for apple pie cookies. Happy Wednesday!
Robin – I often forget about Etsy. And a couple comments have suggested Hobby Lobby. I think I might make a trip there tomorrow:) I will definitely let you know if I make some apple pie cookies!!:) Happy Wednesday to you!!
Awww I LOVE your pilgrims! They are adorable! I’m somewhere in the middle of wanting to enjoy fall and wanting to move into Christmas lol- I just put my fall decor up two weeks ago- but since we have so much Christmas decor I want to spend a lot of time enjoying it! I’m hoping to go to Hobby lobby this week and see if their fall stuff is on sale.. we shall see!
I agree, baking to me is just as much fun as enjoying it- although pie is one of my favorites, more than cake actually. I haven’t even started Christmas shopping, I would love to be halfway done!
It was so nice catching up wit you today! Happy November!
Aw, thank you Stacy. I really like the pilgrims as well! I say…you should enjoy your fall decor. Especially since it hasn’t been there too terribly long! And, yes, I think I will see what is left at Hobby Lobby. Great idea!!
We love apple pie but always have a second dessert for Thanksgiving too since my younger two boys don’t eat apple pie. Though oddly Alec has made apple cookies a time or two– I was hoping I could find the recipe/picture for you on the blog as I know it was while he was in high school (because he talked his culinary teacher into making them for selling at school as well) but I can’t seem to find it. I’ll keep looking and let you know if I find it. It sounds like you are well prepared for Christmas already; that’s wonderful!
Oh, I hope you might find it, Joanne. I would love to surprise my family with a new treat:) Thanks for looking already!!
Hello Friend,
Oh I enjoyed this post.
My son Atticus also loves Thanksgiving, it is his favorite holiday.
My birthday is 12/12.. happy early birthday to your husband.
This season I want to take in a holiday market. More and more are popping up here in Wisconsin.
We think the holiday markets really are fun…and festive!! Hope you find one (or two) to enjoy this year!
Jennifer, I so enjoyed this post. Thank you for the reminder about decorating for Thanksgiving. I don’t have a lot of Thanksgiving decor, but I hadn’t put out the few pieces I do have yet, so I will get on that this afternoon. Yours are so precious.
I can understand why you dislike the election season.
Hmmm…Exodus can be a convicting book for me because I find myself walking in the paths of disobedience just like the Israelites did then. Ouch!
Oh…and, yes, I have made apple pie cookies and they are delicious. It didn’t dawn on me when I was reading the recipe, but basically what you have when you finish is a filled cookie with apple pie filling. I’m a slow learner, I guess. 🙂
Hope your week is filled with peace and calm. xx
I’m so glad to hear apple pie cookies are yummy. I found a recipe and I think I will try them early next week:) Hope you were able to get a few Thanksgiving decorations out, Dianna! Happy Saturday to you!
Your Thanksgiving decor is beautiful. I love that you love Thanksgiving and make an intentional effort to celebrate and savor it. The hot fudge brownie wax melt sounds amazing. I’m impressed that you are half done with your Christmas shopping. We have only purchased one gift so far.
Thank you , Crystal! And, yes, I really do enjoy the new wax melt!!
Oh, I enjoyed this one, my friend! It is filled to the brim with cozy! Your decor is beautiful, and your wax melt sounds divine! I have some shopping done. I plan on wrapping as we go along, rather than what I did last year, which was a very poor idea of wrapping everything while sitting on the floor of my bedroom! Have a cozy evening!
Thank you sweet friend!! I am going to try and stay ahead of the wrapping as well. So far…not so good!:( Everything is just accumulating on my office floor!
Your Thanksgiving pilgrims are so cute! I don’t have a lot of Thanksgiving decor, but I do like to focus on that holiday (it’s my favorite one!) and just fall-theme decorating for at least a few weeks before going all Christmas-y! I loved your “thankful for” list! Hope your month is off to a great start!
Aw, thank you Kym!!
