Hello friends. When you read this, I will still be in Panama but hated to go ten days before connecting with any of you. I do not often create posts this far in advance but thought something – just for fun! – would work. Enter….five random facts about me. Five incredibly random facts and in incredibly random order. I have done one or two other posts like this but it has been awhile. Hopefully, I do not repeat myself. If you think of an incredibly random fact about yourself, feel free to leave it in the comments. I will return (technically) tomorrow as my plane comes in after midnight, and I will look forward to not only reading your comments but also getting caught up with my blog reading. So, without further ado….some facts.
ONE – I was bitten by a dog when I was twelve. A German Shepherd that was (loosely) tied to a fence. Some friends and I were walking around a local carnival in a shopping center parking lot. None of us were even looking toward the dog but when we walked past, he lunged at me and bit my knee. It was not a horrible bite, per se, but I am, to this day, afraid of dogs. All dogs. And quite afraid actually.
TWO – When my older son was about three (ish), we lost him at a large amusement park – Carowinds in North Carolina. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. The whole thing of trying to tell security what he was wearing, etc. etc., and trying to “stay put” while they went to look for him. He really had not gotten too far away and was not terribly scared when we found him (he did realize he was lost) but it was still awful. For the record, it was not at all my fault. (Just had to include that….)
THREE – After a large meal, and sometimes a not so large meal, I sneeze repeatedly. I have been told this is “quite common” although I don’t know anyone else who does it. And I even think sneezing after eating has an official name but who knows. I’m quite used to it now but I still find it annoying. My family just thinks I’m a goof!
FOUR – I have a peculiar “thing” about numbers…particularly odd numbers. I really prefer even numbers. Our current house is the first house I’ve ever lived in with an odd house number and, to be very honest, it was almost a deal breaker for me. Why? I don’t know. As well, at one point, we were told I might be induced with our third child. I had been at an appointment and, if I did not deliver over the weekend, I was scheduled for an induction on the next Monday…which was an odd day of the month. I literally pitched a fit. I blame that on the hormones and, thankfully, our son arrived 48 hours later. On Sunday, the 20th. All of our birthdays (and my anniversary) are on even days. Phew:)
FIVE – I have mentioned a time, or ten, here on my blog that I do not like tomatoes. At all. But that sentiment apparently only applies to raw tomatoes. I really like sun-dried tomatoes and think they are super yummy. I like tomato based sauces. Pizza sauce. Spaghetti sauce. Ketchup, of course. These are all yummy. Tomato juice is not yummy (ugh) but I have to say, a raw tomato is just the worst and is probably one food I simply refuse to eat. One other food that I do not think I could force myself to eat is an egg with a runny yolk. Nope. No thank you. And I better stop there.
I did say these would be very random. But thanks for reading! I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead!
I think I knew someone who sneezed after eating but now I can’t remember who it was!
Well, that was fun! My hubby hates raw tomatoes too, but loves all the tomato sauces like you.
My husband is the same about tomatoes. He will drink tomato soup and eat salsa, has no problems with marinara sauce but hates tomatoes.
Oh thank god you found your son.. that must have been so scary.
I am the same way about tomatoes- I don´t eat them raw but I love to grow them in the garden and make marinara sauce with them. I also like to eat salsa but can live without ketchup. I feel the same way that you do about runny eggs. Heavens, NO! When I overeat, I feel a tightness across the bridge of my nose. I have been bitten by dogs twice- once as a child and once as an adult. I am not afraid of dogs but I have no desire to have a dog myself as a pet.
How interesting you are! We are all truly unique, aren’t we?!!
Regarding tomatoes, I like them a lot, and most especially sun-dried tomatoes that are sold in a jar. Ooooh! I could eat an entire jar of them in one sitting, but they are very high in calories when packaged that way.
Welcome back!
Thank you for sharing this post ahead of your trip to Panama Jennifer. No doubt you have had a wonderful time seeing all those interesting sights and I look forward to reading about them. Your dog incident sounded very scary. I had a similar one when I was walking my dog round about the same age. I can’t remember what kind of a dog but it was a big one that ran up and started biting my much smaller dog. I tried to intervene, probably shouldn’t have, but I was so afraid for my dog. It bit me too. Fortunately its owner ran up and dragged the dog away and I ran off crying with my dog. It took us a long time to get over it. Losing your son even for a little while, so scary! I woke up one morning to find mine not in his crib. I looked all over the house in a panic, but eventually found him in a closet, curled up on the floor on top of a pile of laundry. Last one I’ll share as this is starting to become an epistle. I am an uneven number person sorry to say, but only with the number three and without giving it much thought, I find myself buying things in threes. Don’t know where that came from, but hubs will often say, how many do you want? No, don’t tell me, three, lol! Have a restful week my friend. I am sure you will need it after all the traveling.
That was fun to learn more about you, Jennifer! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Jennifer~ I can’t wait to hear about your trip!! I love tomatoes! But, they have to be ripe, and I refuse to eat a store bought tomato. The even number thing makes me smile. I have a granddaughter who loves numbers… you would get along soooo well! I have a dog, but some dogs do scare me… they can be terrifying! My biggest weird, or not so weird thing, is my fear of spiders. I HATE THEM! I won’t even go into a room if I know there is a spider in it 🕷️ Hugs, Barb
Hope you are having a glorious time in Panama. Safe travels home!!
My sister was jumped on by a dog when she was very young and she has never gotten over it. She is pretty much terrified of dogs and not much fonder of cats. I am so sorry that happened to you.
I am beginning to learn to eat tomatoes. Still not crazy about them by any means but I can eat them without tossing my cookies. Ha!! I like many tomato-based products…ketchup, sauce, marinara. Just don’t like the squishy seeds.
I have a thing about numbers, too. But I like the odd numbers over the even ones. We bought a certain plot of land over the others in the area because of the numbers in the address. The address of that house was 4633. My birthday is 4.6 and I was 33 when I bought the house.
My daughter D has always disliked fresh tomatoes but loves them as sauces or chopped up from a tin. We found in the end it was the seeds and gooey soft centre she found unpalatable. Since then she scoops out the inside and chops the remaining tomato into small pieces.
i’m hoping that Panama is everything warm and wonderful for you, friend …
I’m afraid of dogs too but because my older sister was attacked, bitten, and taken to the ER in front of me when I was quite young. She has never been afraid of dogs since she knew what she did wrong to provoke said dog but I had no idea and I have never trusted them ever since.
That is so sad that you had that experience with the dog. I understand your fears. ((Hugs)) My heart is just breaking reading about your son. I can only imagine your fear. So glad he was found. I worry about that everytime Adam and Gabby take James to an amusement park, especially they way things are in the world today. That is definitely interesting about you sneezing after a meal. That is very different about your numbers thing. Glad your son was born on the 20th! I imagine there are a lot of people who don’t like a raw tomato. I haven’t had that issue and I do like a runny egg. Very interesting post. Thanks for sharing.
That sneezing after each meal is so goofy…but I just did it again this morning. After breakfast – what!!? I’m so glad my son was born on the 20th, too. It was the 20th of September so we just celebrated that special day!!:)
Thanks for sharing, Jennifer! My Dad sneezes sometimes after he eats. I like even numbers for the AC or heat in the car and also in the house. I was also biten by a dog as a child. If the dog is with the owner, I’m fine and we even had a dog for awhile a few years ago. However, a stray or running in the neighborhood, I’m out of there! Enjoy your week! Pam
Even numbers on the thermostat. Now, I had not thought of that one, Pam. Oh no – better not to there! Thanks for stopping by!!
