Happy Monday, friend! How was your weekend? The weather was so pretty here, I just had to spend as much time as possible outside. I should have taken a hike. Raked the last of fall’s remnants from the back flowerbed. Something productive. But, I did not. I simply enjoyed both days. This morning, I have nothing “exciting” to report, so I will use this bonus daybook post. If nothing else, it will help to keep my thoughts focused.
Outside my window. I have noticed that a couple (just one of two..but still) have cut their grass for the first time. Really? Our yard might be more green than brown but it is definitely still getting its best spring look together. I’m not sure how some of these yards are so green already. I would love to know their secret. My husband puts a lot of effort (and money) into our yard but I think we are missing something. I’m not quite ready for mowing season (this does seem early….let’s not forget, it snowed last week!) but I really do enjoy the process of getting things “mow season ready”!
Around the house. Things inside need a bit of help getting “spring season ready”! The bunnies did not make their appearance last week. I need some more spring appropriate pillows for the sofa. I did replace some flowers in the living room with some pretty lighter colors. But, still. I have to admit not much will be changing this week as I am heading out of town. Girls getaway is finally here…and I am ready for it. I am really looking forward to some days away. Just for fun. And I just might come home a bit more inspired to make the changes around here!
On the horizon for this week. I have an exciting week. A friend comes into town today for a couple days. She is on spring break and decided to spend a few days “back in Virginia.” We have dinner plans tonight with a couple other friends and then, hopefully, will get downtown tomorrow. We might catch sight of some of the cherry blossoms. And, of course, have a yummy meal by the water. I hope the weather holds out. On Wednesday, I am heading to Asheville with some (other) friends. We are going to the Biltmore for a couple of days. Lots of walking, plenty of sunshine and hours spent catching up with good friends. The makings of a great week, in my humble opinion.
On the menu this week. Well, not much. Like I said, I will be out to dinner this evening. I leave on Wednesday. I only really need to think about Tuesday. I’m pretty sure that will be simple. I am grateful for a hubby that is self-sufficient and makes his own meals. There was a day when I left meals prepared for him whenever I was out of town. Sometimes he would eat them. Other times (and many times), he would go off-plan. We both realize, he likes the flexibility of making and/or going to get whatever he wants for dinner. So much easier for both of us.

What I’ve been reading. Book Five in the Mitford series. This is the one where they move from Mitford to an island off the coast of Virginia. I’m having a hard time getting into this one as much as these others. I miss the Mitford characters! I miss Mitford. I also have several cozy mysteries downloaded on my Kindle. Goodness but I find it harder to enjoy a digital book. Not exactly sure what the difference is…but there is a difference! Even the cover makes a book that I hold in my hands that much nicer. Isn’t this just a lovely cover!? Do you judge a book by its cover? I do. One hundred percent!
On my mind at the beginning of the week. Safety. Rather not taking safety, and God’s protection, for granted. Which is so easy to do. I obviously have travel plans this week. Both out of town and going downtown (closer to home). I do pray for protection but, if I’m honest, I often assume all will go well. Last week, when we were in the city, we used the Metro (the city’s public train system) several times. I did not find out until we were home (and hours later) that there had been a shooting in one of the Metro centers during the time we were there. It was not in the centers/stops we were using…but it easily could have been. The fact that we were able to visit our family, use the train several times around the city and simply enjoy the day without incident is a blessing. A blessing that I can take for granted. Sad yet true. That incident has been on my mind as I get ready for a busy week ahead.
So what is on your mind at the beginning of this week? I’d love to hear. Did you experience summer this weekend? Did I mention yesterday it was 86 degrees? With no humidity!:) Do you have spring on the brain? However your week looks ahead or the temperatures might be, I pray there are lots of sunshine-y momentys for you. So glad you stopped by –
Jennifer, it sounded like you had a laidback kind of weekend with your busy upcoming week. I hope you enjoy the time spent with your friend today and then your trip out of town beginning on Wednesday. It was a busy stitching weekend for me with stitch group gatherings on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Like you, I will be heading out of town, but on Friday. Not going as far as you; only to Roanoke to attend a one-day stitching event. Have safe travels and enjoy your time with friends.
So glad you had a good time with stitching friends! Enjoy your time Roanoke…and have a great week until then!
I do have spring on the brain, my friend! We had a beautiful weekend as well. Sunday was rather windy and we were under a severe thunderstorm warning, but it didn’t take place. Today we are having a nice gentle rain which makes it overcast and gray. I do miss the sunshine.
Your plans for this week sound amazing! I love the town of Asheville. I’ve only been there once, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately, we didn’t go to the Biltmore.
Have fun and enjoy God’s goodness and safety this week!
Happy Monday, Dianna. Hope you have a nice week…and, yes, I hope to enjoy all the extra blessings this week!:)
We had beautiful weather over the weekend as well. Seems to be a great theme for the weekend. I did nothing super productive outside either. I heard the sound of lawn mowers in our neighborhood- my husband has not mowed yet. Our grass is very verdant but thankfully not super long so mowing is not necessary. Your upcoming plans sound really fun! Going out with friends, travel with friends- it all sounds fun! Travel does involve the risks and I worry (try not to be paranoid about it) when I travel. I think it would foolhardy to not in this day and age. I hope you have a wonderful out tonight and out of town with your friends. Have a great Monday!
Thank you, Maria! I am looking forward to all this week holds in store! Hope you have a nice week, as well!
Hello,
I cannot read a digital book. I have tried, but I just cannot do it. I like to turn pages.
Your plans sound like great fun. I look forward to hearing about your adventures.
Have a great week!
Carla
Oh, I am so envious of your getaway! I want to go to Biltmore so bad!!!!!!! Maybe one day! 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful, beautiful time! I love the Mitford Series, and I just finished the book before this, soooo, hmmm. I may not like it either. I do at times judge a book by its cover but after coming across a book with a plain cover and it was fantastic last year I am more open.
My mind has definitely turned on spring. I haven’t gotten the flower bug outside just yet, but I am sure it will hit me soon. I have the Easter things out and have been outside and soaking up the sunshine.
Enjoy both your friend visiting and your friends getaway. We too are travelling in a few days and the airports do not look fun right now. I just pray we safely go and safely return.
Isn’t this a sad world we live in, in many ways? I always feel very anxious when we go to the theater to see a movie now since there have been multiple mass shootings in movie theaters. I find myself watching the people around me to the point of missing seconds here and there of the movie. Makes it hard to relax. I am thankful you were safe on the day when someone was less fortunate on their trek on the Metro.
Have always wanted to go to Biltmore and my mom always wanted to go to Biltmore. Not sure she ever made it. Hope you have splendid weather for all that walking and time with your out-of-town friend and other friends.
I absolutely judge a book by its cover. If it doesn’t have an eye-catching cover, I am less likely to find out what the book is about unless someone has recommended it to me. Even then, a cover can sway me one way or the other.
Hi Jennifer!
I’ve had so much fun re-reading the Mitford series a few times. Old friends coming to call, right?! And I’m with you, I just can’t get into a Kindle. I’ve just gotta have a real life book with real life pages to turn.
Enjoy the budding springtime beauties, friend. Easter week blessings to you and yours.
