Happy Monday, friends! How was the weekend? Ours was rather wet but still quite productive…even as we dodged storms and raindrops. It would rain hard, clear up and then rain again. Hopefully all the puddles, streams, birdbaths and other water sources are full as it is supposed to get incredibly hot this week. Three days in a row of temperatures over 100! Phew – I love sumer but that is hot!! July is coming in like a dragon!
We spent Saturday morning helping prepare packets/door hangers to be used by the DC Gospel Outreach teams. You can read about that effort/ministry here. It has been going strong since the first of June. Until last week, they had not had one rainy day and they have not only been able to get the Word distributed but also to connect and share the gospel with many. It has been so encouraging to me. I believe the bulk of the work is being done on the mall, at the Metro stops and around the capitol; however, there are groups that go into the neighborhoods as well. We packaged gospels (John/Romans booklets) and literature that can be handed out and/or left at doors. I was excited that I was able to help. Our church will be spending a Saturday with the teams downtown later in July and I am really looking forward to that as well.
On Sunday, in Junior Church, we finished our large flag decoration made out of paper strips – much like you see at Christmas time but hung horizontally to make a flag. Something so simple but the children had a great time. The older students even enjoyed helping us after class. Our room is looking patriotic and quite ready for the country’s big celebration this weekend!
Ah, our weekend also included lunch with friends. These are the friends who typically host Fourth of July and live just a few houses from the fireworks launch. We had not heard many details about this year and I was a bit worried there were not going to be festivities (sigh). I was right. They are not doing their Fourth celebration (honestly, I think that era might be over) and now we wondering where we will see the pyrotechnics this year?! Not sure…but, for now, it is time to focus on Monday! Saturday will take care of itself, right?
What is on your agenda for this start to the week? I have lessons to prepare (both Junior Church and a ladies class that I will be teaching during the month of July) and typical house chores to finish before I meet a friend for lunch…and, then, this afternoon I am (finally) get a pedicure. If you live near Mt. Vernon, there is going to be a large fireworks display the evening of July 3rd. If you are a watcher of A Capitol Fourth on PBS, it is being broadcast at 8 PM on July 3rd.
Yes, dodging raindrops over the weekend was the skill to be had. I was in Northern VA on Saturday to take my mom errand running. While it wasn’t too hot, it was really muggy.

Your weekend sounds lovely! Our weather is taking a turn for the hot as well with temps in the mid 90’s all this week. The ministry you volunteered for sounds like a wonderful one. And I’m glad your craft with the kids in your ministry went well. As ever, I’m impressed with your longevity in helping out with the kids at church. That is amazing! I’m sure they appreciate you and I hope that you feel that way by people in your church often :). Yes, to red, white and blue toe nail polish colors!! Have a great Monday!

Oh, you must feel the excitement of our nation’s birthday living so close to where the action is.
I wouldn’t be used to rain and then it being hot outside in the summer, as we get our rains in the winter and it’s cold.

I have a slower week this week. I don’t go to see fireworks anymore. My town does it big on the night before the 4th. It’s called Red, White, and Kaboom. I can hear it from here!! You have been busy! Sorry your friends aren’t doing their usual 4th of July party. Hope you find a place to catch the show!

Hi Jennifer, this is the first week in many that we have no doctor appointments. I just put a pork roast into a brime mixtue for 6 hrs and will bake tonight. Got the recipe on YouTube from a french chef Piere. Really good.
Will hand my flag on the bacony and take my hearing aids out so I won’t go crazy with the fireworks that last all night around here. haha. Have a great week. Always enjoy you post, and now that I got a new computer, I’m back to enjoying posting on my blog. Have a great week.
