Moving On to Canaan

Ladies’ Bible study began again after the holiday break and I always look forward to it…the fellowship with friends and the new studies. (This group I attend is called “Joy in the Morning”..isn’t that a great name for Bible study?)

Yesterday, I began a study by Priscilla Shirer called “One in a Million” – only week one, but I throughly enjoyed it. We are looking at the children of Israel’s journey from bondage in Egypt to the Promised Land as we think about our own personal journey towards that land of “abundant living”…overflowing with milk and honey…that God has offered for all believers. Of the nearly two million children who fled Egypt, TWO actually entered Canaan! (Yes, that “one in a million”!) This study is about encouraging each of us to actually enter the” promised land” we are entitled to as God’s child….and not being content to live in the wilderness.

I’ll admit, when I first considered the analogy, I was thinking of Canaan as Heaven…and this life now as my wilderness journey (and sometimes, it does feel like that)…but God’s word tells us repeatedly that, as a Christian, an abundant life – full and overflowing – is mine now. It is that life He has promised, I believe, that Canaan represents in this study. There is no need to settle for the wilderness when Christ came “that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (Jn 10:10)

I am really excited about this study – even the homework! And that Miss Shirer is too cute (so enjoyable to listen).

  1. This sounds like a GREAT study, and I love the name. Is this through your church? Thanks for the comments about my daughter. Yes, her hubby is NOT a teeth smiler. = ) You have to catch him off guard for that. lol His teeth need to be straightened and I am sure that is the reason he is soo reluctant. This guy has quite the family story. His was raised totally by his dad, and his father never saw the need for such things. Mel is "trying" to convince him it is not too late, only because it does present other problems as well, as his bite is off as well. Mike can't bear to spend the money on it though, haha.. SIGH….Have a wonderful day Jennifer and oh yes your comment about my other post was soo true. You got my point completely (I wonder sometimes if I explain myself right, haha) I am soo busy trying to present my best foot for the Lord, that sometimes I forget that He knows my every thought anyway and I'd be soo much better off just going to Him in the first place, and meanwhile He has given us all each other to help and support.

  2. Hi Jennifer.
wow, that sounds like a great bible study, and I love the name of your group. Neat!
That was a nice thing to have come along after your daughter and grandbaby went home. so glad you are enjoying it so. That is so true that people just settle in life.
I am not a setteler myself. I figure why have hamburger when you can have steak! I think we have to continually be seeking after the gold of God. He says he is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him. so true!
Fill us in on the things you are learning so we can learn too!
    blessings hon,
    Nellie

  3. Sounds like a great study. Always found the story of the Israelites interesting. How the wandered around in that wilderness for so many years, continually doubting God to provide for them. So much we learn from them! Hope your day is good!
