Well, just like that, we are at Friday. And, for me, a “full” week of blogging. I know that is the norm for several of you, but, for me, it has something new. And a bit different. I feel like I am thinking about the blog (and what has already posted, needs to be posted and/or what needs to written) a lot. As in, sometimes it seems like all day. But, so far, I am enjoying it. Blogging is just a fun hobby for me…so, I want to keep it fun. So far, so good. I really do look forward to each of you stopping by and reading your comments. Thanks, more than you know, for showing up so often! And, since it is Friday…I thought we would have a Friday with Friends type post. I’ll ask a question, leave my own answer here, and then look forward to reading your answers in the comments. Today’s question: What would be your dream place to visit (or place to be) during the holiday season??
I know, for many, there is no place like home for the holidays. I get that and, if that is you, fantastic! We often traveled to my grandparents when I was young and, when my own children were growing up, we traveled to my parents almost every Christmas. “Home” for Christmas is often the people you are with and not necessarily the building you are in. Even still, I would not mind traveling for Christmas. We have often talked, dreamed, planned (in our heads) a great trip during the holidays, but that has not happened yet. So many people, pets, responsiblities, jobs, etc., to consider when trying to make such plans. Who knows…we might just be getting to the season of life where holiday travel could be a real possiblity.
That, of course, begs the question – where would we go? I’m sure my husband and I have completely different ideas on the perfect destination for travel during the holidays. But, he is not writing this post (lol!) so let’s talk about my dream. I would go to Australia for three weeks. I only say three weeks because it takes so long to get there (for me) and I would want to make the most of all that time in an airplane. (This is where I lose my husband when I talk about my dream trip…ha!) Australia has always been on my “bucket list,” if you will, for travel. I so hope it will happen some day. And, December in Australia is summer!! This summer loving gal would be so happy! Can you imagine a picnic on the beach for Christmas lunch? Okay, that might take some getting used to but I’m up for it. My holiday dream does not include snow, or even extra cold. Nor does it include hot cocoa in front of roaring fireplaces. Or bundling up in sweaters and parkas to stroll through holiday markets. No, those would be the hubby’s holiday trip. I’m talking sunshine! And warm air on my skin. Maybe searching for a koala or two:) Or even a Christmas concert at the Sydney Opera House!! I have to wonder…would an Australian Christmas concert even include Sleigh Ride?? (or Frosty the Snowman?!?! oh my)!
I do not know that I will ever get my husband on board (no pun intended) with the idea of being trapped in an airplane for hours. Dare I say, days. Days worth of travel. He does not mind flying but that is a bit much. But, hey, the question was a “dream place” to visit. And a girl can dream. Truth be told, I would be happy to be in Florida. Or Texas. Just in the south for Christmas. And I just might be able to pull that one off one Christmas soon:) Just sayin –
I would love to know your dream place to be for Christmas. Do you have one? Maybe you would just like to be with that someone special you have not seen in awhile. Whatever your dream, don’t stop seeing the possibilties! Before I go, I want to share this morning’s coffee with you. (You didn’t think I forgot, did you?) It was…chocolate cherry!:) Does that sound good to you, or no? It was not bad but was not the best one I have enjoyed this week. It did remind me of the chocolate covered cherries my husband used to get every year from at least one of the children for Christmas. That box of liquid, gooey candy was not only something they could afford (with their meager ten dollars that had to be divided several ways), but it was also Dad’s favorite. Or so we all thought. Years later I learned he never really liked them (what??) but he ate, savored and enjoyed those treats like a boss!!
Well, no posting tomorrow or on Sunday, but I will be back on Monday. I hope you will join me then. Until then, have a wonderful weekend!!
Hello, dear friend! This was fun to read. Australia at Christmas would be so different! If only it weren’t so far to get there. I think my dream spot for Christmas would be somewhere with an ocean…maybe somewhere on the Cape of Massachusetts or up in the mountains of Colorado, Montana, or Wyoming. I’d love to be in a small town so I could experience a small town Christmas, like what I love to watch on Hallmark. I’d love to be there with my boys and maybe someone special or my very best friend and her girls. It’s so fun to dream! Have a wonderful day and weekend!
I have always dreamed of an Alaskan cruise, so why not at Christmas time. While the husband would enjoy it, he isn’t one for traveling so if it ever happens, it would be with a gal pal or two. I’m chuckling about the chocolate-covered cherries your husband was gifted. I never was a fan, so I am guessing chocolate cherry coffee would be a no for me. Enjoy your Friday and stay inside and be safe if you are having snow, Jennifer.
I would like to go to Australia as well someday but I wouldn´t count on it happening. My husband would have to be retired for that to happen. We just got back from a partial weekend away to NYC! The festive decor was so pretty but the crowds almost ruined it for me. Too many people had the same idea (though seeing the holiday ¨things¨ were not the reason we were there). As for being gone on Christmas day, I don´t know, that doesn´t sound appealing to me. Cute story about the cherries. Dads who love their kids are the best :).
The chocolate cherry story made me smile. I don’t really enjoy the taste of chocolate and orange together but it was always what my in laws gave me for Christmas. The rest of the family devoured my chocolate orange when we got home. I’m glad they enjoyed it.
We were very blessed to spend some time in Australia this year but I’m not sure about being there at Christmas. I think I prefer to stay at home for Christmas and travel around for the rest of the year. I don’t mind where.
