Happy Wednesday, friends! Thanks to everyone who commented on Monday’s post. It seems there are very few of us who enjoy ironing. Most of us just find ways to get it done…for the most part. And cleaning those pesky blinds was another chore we all seemed to dread. That was a fun post. Today I thought I would continue with some fun prompts and join the Hodge Podge Wednesday gang. You can find it on Joyce’s blog. Not sure I can think of an answer for every question but I will give it a try. Let’s see…..
1.What was the best (or one of the best) summers of your life? The summer of ’89. Yes, quite awhile ago:) I was a new mom!! I had worked up until my daughter was born and then became a stay at home mom, so not only was this my first summer without the constraints of a career in a long time, but it was also the first with my baby. She was 9-11 months and pretty adorable, if I do say so myself. She was also a very happy and good-natured baby. We spent that summer out and about and simply lovin life!! I remember thinking almost daily, “Life does not get any better than this!” And, in many respects…I was right. It was wonderful. Apparently, we thought it was so idyllic that we announced on her first birthday (in September) we were going to have another one!!:) This is one of my favorite photos but it is so sun-faded, you cannot appreciate the pretty pink flowers, the sweet baby romper or the cuteness of her bright orange hair. But I’m swooning!
2. When you have a trip coming up do you make a list and check it twice to ensure you don’t forget anything? Or are you a ‘throw whatever you can think of into the suitcase at the last minute’ kind of packer? When returning from a trip do you unpack immediately or leave the suitcase right where it lands? I definitely have a plan and a list (or two) when I pack. I do not like to check my bag so everything has to have a purpose – and fit – when it goes into the suitcase. The unpacking is another story. I put that suitcase down and I have been guilty of ignoring for a day or two. Sad but true.
3. What’s your favorite food or beverage made with lemons? Is that a flavor you enjoy? I do not like lemonade and that is what comes to mind when I think of lemon-flavored. However, I think blueberries and lemons make a great flavor combination….especially in a scone!! I also used to love Chicken Piccata before I stopped eating chicken. I have yet to find a good way to make this type of dish with a plant based alternative.
4. When was the last time you had to make lemonade out of lemons, figuratively speaking I mean? I have no idea. I was afraid I would not have an answer for all the questions. That’s okay.
5. Did you like school growing up? Why or why not? I loved school when I was elementary age. Although I was a good student, school became less “fun” (and much more drama-filled) when the high school years rolled around. I would not say I liked school anymore.
6. Insert your own random thought here. My husband randomly came home with fresh flowers the other day. It was a a very random Saturday and a complete surprise. Not bad for an old married couple like us. The yellow of these flowers were especially bright and beautiful. I have really been enjoying them…..
Jennifer, I agree that those baby years, when you first get to stay home and just play and enjoy motherhood…those are the sweetest memories. I love those memories with my boys 🙂
And I always liked school too 🙂 Especially the back to school shopping! I enjoyed the routine of the school year. By the end of the summer, I was so ready to go back to that routine.
And yay for beautiful flowers and a thoughtful husband 🙂
Debbie, I really enjoyed back to school shopping…both when I was in school and, especially, when my children were heading back to school. We made an event out of back to school shopping:) Great memories! Hope you have a great Wednesday, my friend!!
That summer with your baby girl sounds delightful! I did not become a stay at home mom right after having kids. I do feel like I appreciated it a lot when it happened but I did miss out on my son´s first summer as a baby (I mean, I was his mom and was with him a lot but I worked during the day the first summer of his life). I am with you on leaving the suitcase out a day or two… and not being crazy about high school either. Have great day!
Thanks, Maria! Glad high school is way far behind me:) I hope you have a great day too!
I love fresh flowers in the house, and unexpected fresh flowers is such a treat. I remember the first year with my oldest. There is something so special about those early days and months of new motherhood. Enjoy your day!
Yes there is….that first year (with a new baby but especially as a new mom) is just amazing!!:) Thanks for the link-up, Joyce!
There’s a Kenny Rogers song about a man bringing his wife a rose and I always joke that my hubs never brings me any. He says he doesn’t want to do all the nice things in the first X years. Well, we are coming up on 19 – can I have some flowers now? LOL.
Here’s hoping a flower or two comes soon enough:) Thanks for stopping by my blog!!
I couldn’t come up with an answer for #4 either. Those flowers are beautiful!!
Glad I am not the only one!!:) Have a great day, Cathy!
That was so nice of your husband to surprise you with flowers. They are beautiful. Sweet photo of your firstborn.
I didn’t handle the high school drama very well, so those years were not my best. I was so glad when I graduated.
Oh! Those first years home with babies were glorious, were they not??? I remember them well, yet at times, they seem like a lifetime ago. I love your picture of your little one. Have a cozy evening, my friend.
Glorious is a good word for it, my friend!! Hope you had a cozy evening, too. The evenings are getting cozier and cozier, aren’t they??
How sweet to enjoy that summer home with your sweet little girl! Speaking of sweet that was a sweet gesture from your husband to bring those flowers home! Happy Hodgepodge.
Yes, live was indeed sweet!! Still rather sweet:) Thanks for stopping by, Ellen.
How sweet of your husband to surprise you with those flowers, and they are really beautiful! Have a wonderful week!
Thank you, Kym. I hope your week is also going well!
What a blessing that bouquet from your husband is. I love it when our husbands surprise us with unexpected treats “just because”. Have a wonderful remainder to your week, Jennifer.
Dianna, it was very sweet. And quite the surprise:) But (just between me and you) I caught a glimpse of the receipt and cannot believe how much fresh flowers cost!!?
What a thoughtful surprise. Those flowers are like sunshine sitting on your table. Beautiful.
I’m sure the first summer of motherhood was special. Your baby girl was at such a fun age. My first baby was just a bit older than yours that first summer. We were moving overseas (back to Panama -thank you, ex-husband) and Brennyn and I were at my parents until my orders came for our move. It was a bittersweet summer being with my parents but knowing we wouldn’t see them again for quite a while. Year-old baby snuggles are the best.
Those flowers are beautiful! I bet blueberry and lemon scones are a fabulous taste combo.
