Happy Monday! I’m a bit late with my morning post. Not much to say this morning?? Or just did not make myself get it done over the weekend when I should have?? That’s much more likely, however I am often short on inspiration. I did see an interesting prompt (you can join and/or read the link-up here) about our least favorite activities. I’m not sure most were thinking about household things or just activities in general, but I can probably think of a few in both caterogies. So, I thought I would join this morning.
Around the house, I really do not like:
cleaning the floors – Our hardwood floors are in need of help. They have almost two decades of wear and have really lost their shine. We cannot decide if we want new flooring or if we want to restore the current floor. While we decide, they really lack luster and just never look nice. Or clean. Of course, I still clean them but it looks and feels pointless. Even without the shine, they never really seem super clean to me. We (as a family) transitioned to a “no shoes in the house” policy several years ago – which was a major accomplishment, especially for my husband, as neither of us grew up doing so – and it does make a big difference, but I was hoping for even more!
dusting/cleaning our window blinds – I don’t mind cleaning the windows too much but I often procrastinate because the blinds need to be done at the same time, and I hate wiping each and every slat on those blinds. Not only are they hard or awkward to reach…but it just takes forever. Ugh.
recaulking and/or painting – I am terrible at both. My husband used to enjoy painting but he does not anymore. I’ve tried to pick up the slack but I don’t do a very good job nor do I enjoy it. Caulking (as in the shower) is also a skill that eludes us both. Seems so easy but our end results are always pitiful.
ironing – I just do not like it. My son is a much better ironer than I, but I have no idea where he acquired that skill.
On the other hand, I few things around the house that I actually enjoy are: blowing out the garage (it’s just fun), vacuuming (which is instantly satistfying), taking out the trash, decorating seasonally (just not as much as I once did), making my bed, and organizing or reorganizing just about anything. Closets, cabinets, drawers, to-do lists, schedules, all of it. If you let me organize it, I am one happy camper.
Other chores or tasks, in general, that I really do not like:
unpacking – I don’t mind packing at all. It closely resembles an organziational project! But I can put off the unpacking for…well, far too long. I should just get it over with, but I rarely do.
going to the dentist – I might even say I hate this one.
trying to learn/work through/solve or understand IT issues – Nothing really makes me lose my patience faster. Nor makes me feel anymore stupid.
scrapbooking – This is really a shame because I used to really enjoy this. But not so much anymore. And I have several books that need to made and way too photos that need to be organized. This never feels like organizational fun but more like an artistic challenge. And I’m not that artistic.
exercising – no comment!
taking the car to the drive through carwash – I can never line the wheels up correctly, which admittedly sounds lame but it is true. So, I don’t even try anymore. This is my husband’s chore and he likes it so…winning.
asking questions or asking for help – I probably should not even admit to this one but I am never going to seek out an employee, for instance, and ask for assistance. The jokes about a man never being willing to ask for directions? Not at our house. My husband seems to delight in asking questions but not me. I would much rather just stay lost. Or do without. Or, better yet, figure it out!! (Unless, of course, it is an IT question!) If I am honest, in response to the prompt in general, this one would probably be at the top of the list. Sigh.
I should probably stop there before I embarrass myself. There are a few (somewhat surprising) things I do actually enjoy: getting our taxes finished each year, consolidating jars and other containers (for instance, who needs two half-empty bottles of mustard in the fridge? Combine those. I do this with literally everything.), writing notes and cards, making my point/discussing errors with insurance companies and the like, and triming my own hair. I have not done that too often since the curls took over but I’m willing to try.
Well, just a little bit of fun for this Monday morning. I hope each of you have a wonderful week ahead! As always, thanks for stopping by my blog!!
I can relate to several of your things…especially cleaning the window blinds! Definitely not my favorite thing to do! And I have NO patience whatsoever when technology doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to.
Dianna, I am glad I’m not the only one struggling with technology…and the lack of patience for it!:) Glad you stopped by!
I loved the “no comment” to exercising. Ha ha! I’m just going to say I don’t like any chores. I can’t seem to find the motivation.
Chores. Even the word sounds draining!:) I hear ya, Dawn!
Weirdly we have had a no shoe in the house rule pretty much since we moved into our house 20 years ago but I’m finding as the boys get older and older we follow that less and less (and I HATE that it does make so much more cleaning for me). I actually got rid of our blinds and went to curtains/room darkening drapes for all our windows just so I wouldn’t have to clean them anymore! LOL I too love to organize and while I don’t love painting as much as I used to I still like the instant color change/fresh up a little paint can make.
Got rid of the blinds? That is brilliant, Joanna! Not sure what my husband would think about that idea but I am all in!!:)
It’s much easier to throw curtains into the washer and dryer… though they do fade quicker in the sun so I tend to replace them more often than I ever would replace blinds.
Would definitely prefer to replace curtains than clean blinds…lol!!
I have a fear of drive through car washes. One time we forgot to take my Disney Mickey Mouse antennae topper off and lost it. We have gotten stuck in one for a few minutes. I would prefer to wash it at home.
Stuck in the carwash? Ugh, that would be dreadful! Thanks for stopping by today, Adrienne!
Such an interesting post, I have a sore knee that makes it difficult to get around lately so my chores are on the back-burner this week. Hubby is very good at chores. We don’t wear our shoes inside the house. Caulking is not a favorite chore, that’s for sure. Painting, we have a pot of paint in our laundry room that has been looking at the walls for a very long time. We have had the worst cold in this house ever, so I guess we have an excuse to be tardy 🙂 Ironing? What’s that, lol! No, not a favorite either. I could go on! I enjoyed everything you wrote about Jennifer, such an enjoyable read. Thank you my friend!
Denise, I actually have a paint can just now looking at me from the kitchen counter!! Ugh. I do hope your cold will clear up soon. That ironing is not going to press itself…LOL!!!
Oh, those window blinds. Ugh. I am not good at dusting. I used to be. Of course, I used to do a whole house clean every Friday! What was I thinking?!?! I think you sound very reasonable in your likes and dislikes, my friend. Thank you for sharing!
Indeed, Billie Jo…what were you thinking cleaning the whole house in one day? I’m sure it looks just lovely now…cleaning and dusting when you get around to it!!:)
I don’t like dealing with IT issues either. And I really hate ironing.
A lot of us hate ironing!! Glad you stopped by, Natasha!!
Cleaning blinds is a bugbear of mine too! Especially the ones in the kitchen which are set in a bay window and the only way to get to them is to climb up on the counter and lean over the sink 🙁
Ironing too, not one of my favourite chores but I try to watch a tv programme at the same time so it doesn’t seem so onerous!
We have always had a ‘shoes off and slippers on’ rule in our house and it would seem very strange to keep my outdoor shoes on when I am home. Maybe it’s because we tend to have carpets here rather than all wooden floors?
Yes, Deb, I too have a window over the kitchen sink that is an Olympic feat to reach and clean!! And I really should try to multi-task when I’m ironing. I usually choose just not to iron very much…ha!!
Ick on the window blinds, LOL. Wishing you a beautiful Tuesday, my friend.
Thanks, Linda…and so glad you stopped by the blog this morning!!
I stopped ironing years ago and now only iron what really needs doing when we are going to wear it.
I definitely hate going to the dentists and exercising although they are things I do but there is always a lot of complaining. lol
All of my exercising is done with quite a bit of complaining!! You know it! Thanks for your comment, Kim! Have a great day!!
Ugh… cleaning windows and blinds – I’m clearly, not a fan. Like you, I don’t mind vacuuming. However, I’m not a fan of cleaning bathrooms. Ironing doesn’t bother me so much when I get going with it. Luckily, Charlotte has started doing most of the ironing and she’s really good at it! I used to be one of those people who did all the housework in one day and then I was completely exhausted. Now, I do it when I think it needs it. I’m also not a big fan of going to the dentist. And yes, I unpack the minute I get home from a trip. Oh, and I have no patience when it comes to technology – I just want it to work! Have a great day, Jennifer.
Oh if only technology would work. Every time. That would be wonderful!! I think there are a lot of us who are not fans of the dentist!! I’m glad I stopped cleaning on a schedule – phew, too tiring!!
I am the same with asking for help! It’s because I’m anxious to talk to people though!
I do like ironing, I love seeing the wrinkles come out. But the motivation to do it isn’t great!
Definitely lacking motivation for ironing…lol! Glad you stopped by, Dara!
Ditto, ditto. I would have to agree that I dislike those same chores. With the exception of maybe ironing. I seem to have a love-hate relationship with my iron. But I say that today because all of the ironing is caught up!! Have started watching trials on YouTube when I iron and that has helped make it much more tolerable.
We need to do a number of things around here, too. Our carpet is 16 years old and looks it. I feel about cleaning it like you do cleaning your floors. The carpet looks flat, dingy and never clean. I would like to replace it. But we also need to at least touch up the paint on the walls and totally repaint the baseboards which needs to happen before we replace the carpet. But we probably need to win the lottery before we even begin to consider jumping into any of these projects. Which means we better start playing the lottery. Maybe Saturday night.
I don’t love dusting either! Thanks for linking up with us.
