Welcome to my blog and welcome to Friday. With another week left in February, it seems odd that it is time for another Share Four Somethings. But, tis the truth. The whole link-up will be available here starting tomorrow but I’ll get my post done today. Never hurts to be early, right? Let’s get started.
some things I have loved – pretty the much the same things as last month. All the cozy things. Basically any and everything to not only keep me warm but to convince myself that I can survive winter. I am still (so) happy for our fireplace, the flannel sheets and the hot, filling meals that taste so yummy this time of year. But, truth be told, I am over winter. I did “love” that the this week’s predicted snowstorm turned to the south and let our Virginia Beach friends have some winter weather. They get excited for snow so, yes, I am happy for them:) Have all the snow. Despite the cold, I did love the valentine fun this month. The temperatures were actually in a semi-normal range on the fourteenth and my hubbie and I enjoyed a very nice day out for lunch and some antique browsing.
some things I have learned – um, funny that I was looking at last month’s SFS prompts and, here, I said I had learned “that I actually will not die if the I go outside when it is in the single digits.” I’m not sure what I was thinking there! I may not die but, let me tell you, I am miserable and I am now at the stage where I will most definitely be complaining. On Wednesday, I mentioned that I was considering something (or things) that would be hard for me to do without…and, quite honestly, my first thought was heat. We have gas heat but, honestly, any heating. I can do okay without air conditioning. And even survive without hot water. I have traveled places and done without both for extended periods. But, oh my, the thought of being cold!?! Just as the rich, young ruler could not imagine giving up his possessions in order to follow the Lord, I have to admit imagining the Lord asking me to uproot and move to (somewhere like) Greenland….well, it was humbling. I would like to think I would (somewhat easily) say “yes, Lord” but what would my attitude be?? By the way, thanks to everyone who left comments and participated in the discussion (blog style) with that question. I really enjoyed reading everyone’s thoughts.
some things that went well – let’s see: we have all remained healthy this month. Hooray. Not even a snifle. (Of course, our noses may simply be frozen.) After a less than stellar Januray (healthwise), I am excited about this. As well, we completed several house projects. And without any disasters – small or minor. This is also noteworthy as handyman projects can be a challenge in our house but we nailed it this month. Painted. Changed out some smoke detectors and even replaced a toilet. On our own. We were pleased with ourselves:) Well, let me be honest. Hubbie does the labor. And I was pleased with him. We were so excited, we decide to take on the project of repainting all the bathroom cabinets. Currently, we are at the choose/delete/choose again phase of looking through paint chips!!
something I need to let go of – hahaha – last month, my answer was to let go of “my bad attitude in the winter.” Clearly, I need much more work in this area. I will simple “copy that” for this month. I am also letting go of some winter clothes that I have not worn. I found a new to me non-profit that provides clothing to women and children in crisis. It is a little bit of drive from home but I am glad to think these clothes can have a good second life. They only take donations one day each week and that changes each week. Tricky. I had the time wrong last week (glad I figured that out before I drove the distance) and I just hoping I don’t forget about it this coming week.
Here’s to a good weekend ahead and the forecast calls for some warming temperatures next week. I am counting on you, weatherman!! Thanks for stopping by!!
Oh, I am with you on it being difficult to imagine cold weather without heat. I shivered when I read your response and realized that I feel the exact same way. It would be so hard to give up the comfort of heated rooms (even when said heated rooms still compel wearing long sleeves, using blankets, and sometimes utilizing the fireplace to really feel warm). Great responses as ever, Jennifer! I’m glad you were spared snow this week. We were not but it was only about an inch and yes to the temps warming up finally (and then what will be complain about, lol?). I hope you have a great weekend!
Hi Jennifer~ Oh my goodness, it’s been a minute! I agree with you about the cold! I’m sooo over winter! I’m praying that spring brings both of us some much needed warm weather. How fun to go antiquing with your husband, sounds like a perfect Valentine’s day. Your posts always make me smile, Jennifer! Hugs, Barb
Jennifer, have you ever thought of writing a book? I’m dead serious, so don’t even chuckle. 🙂 You have such a way with words…and there’s always something in every post you do that makes me chuckle.
Now…about today’s post. Congratulations on the house projects that your hubby did and good for you on being proud of him. That will encourage him to do more…ask me how I know. 🙂 Good luck with the paint choosing. That’s always hard. My husband recently redid some things in our bathroom (as I cheered him on), but he left the choice of colors for the floor tile and the new cabinet up to me. I lingered long over both…it’s like, hmmm…do I pick the colors that will make the bathroom look larger or do I pick the colors that I REALLY love? Care to guess which I did? Yep…the colors that I REALLY love! 🙂
Have a wonderful (hopefully snowless) weekend, my friend. xx
Yay for house projects being completed! We seem to have a never-ending list of things that need to be done, and even though they aren’t big projects, we still put them off! Silly stuff like Draino down a slow tub, or changing lightbulbs can take weeks! So, I applaud your work! I was excited about the prospect of a winter storm, and while we were spared, I was glad because of all the work it took to recover from it. I hope you have a cozy, not too wintery weekend, my friend!
I tolerate being warm/hot much better than I do being cold. And I am always cold. In the summer, I would keep the AC off until just before Paul came home. Was comfortable even when the house was 90*. But I cannot stand being cold. Our thermostat is on 66* in the winter and I just freeze. So glad spring is springing!!
I’m with you on winter and cold girl! The spring weather can’t get here soon enough for me!
I really need to change my attitude and feelings about winter too. I can’t even imagine living somewhere like Alaska or Canada because I think I’d just complain all winter long (I mean I do that here too but at least our winters aren’t as long or as hard as theirs).
I live in South Africa so our winters are so mild in comparison but I do wish it was cold enough for a fire place. I LOVE them!
Glad you guys have all been healthy 😉
I am right with you on that bad attitude…sigh…it’s a work in progress my friend. Wishing you a lovely Sunday.
Hello, oh I do enjoy these. 🙂 I agree, I can do without A/C but goodness me I need heat! We had another very COLD week, back in the NEGATIVES … even during the day. Boo Hoo! So yes, heat is very important to me too.
Have a blessed new week.
Carla
Yay for a healthy month! I would not want to live without heat either, or air conditioning, I love my modern conveniences. I hope you have a great week!
I am not good with the cold either – thank goodness I started to crochet blankets because every evening you will find me snuggled up under at least one in the armchair even if the heating is on!
Well done on getting all those jobs done, you obviously make a good team 🙂
I’m not a fan of the cold either and am happy to curl up with a blanket , book and hot chocolate. Well done to you and your husband for getting some of those household jobs finished.
Missing you this week. 💖💖
Even here in Florida we are ready for winter to be over and spring to get here to stay a while! We had a false spring a couple of weeks ago, and then bam! Old man winter came back again to remind us that yes, even in Florida you can still have winter in February. I think it is finally on its way out and hopefully we will have springtime long enough to enjoy it before summer shows up! LOL. Now, here in Florida, we cry more when the AC breaks down. With the heat you can always find more sweaters and blankets and socks, but with the AC there’s only so much you are allowed to take off to try and keep cool! It’s mostly the humidity that gets to us. I grew up here and we didn’t have AC, but neither did anyone else so we didn’t know what we were missing. But once it came, there’s no turning back! LOL. I enjoyed your post and wish you well in your DIY projects. That’s always “FUN”. It can be, or it might not be…just depends on who’s doing what! LOL. I hope you will take some before and after pictures of your bathroom cabinet project. I love to see what others do and it gives me inspiration. Have a blessed rest of your week, whatever you do.
A very sweet image at the top of your post. Hi Jennifer! Another lovely read! You mentioned quite a lot of what I have to do around here. I need to be prodded into action so thank you sewing that seed. Have a fantastic March.
