Hard to believe, but here we are at the end of another month. June has been a good one:) I enjoy looking back over the month with Jennifer’s monthly Share Four Somethings link-up. You can find it here starting on Saturday. And I think most of you are familiar with it, so I will jump right in. This month, I:
loved – the chance to get away. I have already blogged about it but, just in case you missed it, I went to visit a friend in North Carolina. While I was there, we took a little side adventure to Tennessee. The weather was perfect. The food was yummy. The “simply being away” was amazing. I made my bed every morning but that was about the extent of my responsiblities:) Of course, visiting sweet Tyler was a huge plus as well. And guess who turns one TODAY?!! My goodness but babies make time fly by! I hope he has a day filled with nothing but fun:)
A few other things I have been loving this month: refreshed flowers on the front porch (the spring flowers were completely spent – especially with this heat!); all the summer veggies – think corn on the cob!; evenings that stay light until almost nine at night; not worrying about my hair and humidity; and, of course, getting that port removed!!
tried to improve – my walking game! I mentioned that my friend and I were doing a diet challenge for the next nine weeks. There are serious points to be earned for walking each day. Who knew that was just what I needed to motivate me. I have only missed (and lost points) one day since we started. My friend loves to walk and we walked most evenings while I was at her house. For miles at a time(!!?) So it was a tad easier to simply continue when I got home. I would not quite say that I look forward to my walk but I have been walking in the mornings – before the oppressive heat sets in – and the time outside, in the early morning sunshine has been rather nice. I have to admit.
accomplished – the walk across the suspended bridge in Gatlinburg’s Skylift Park. From the internet: The SkyBridge is the longest pedestrian cable bridge in North America, stretching 680 feet across a deep valley. At its midpoint, the bridge features 30 feet of glass floor panels, providing a thrilling experience for visitors. Oh, it was thrilling alright. Honestly, I was surprised how scared I was. I don’t remember having trouble with heights before but I’ve never crossed a suspended bridge that was blowing rather briskly in the breeze. Once across, I truly did not want to do it again but there was no other option for getting back.
noticed – more and more, I do not like to fly. As in, it really affects me physically…not only the anticipation but especially when I am in the airport. I used to find the process annoying but, lately, I have noticed something that goes beyond that. And this is not good. I still have too many places I want to go/things I want to do that require flying. I have to get a grip!! Not that this really matters in the grand scheme of things but the prompt did ask about something we have noticed??!
Whether I like the flying or not, I am committed to a missions trip to Panama in September. I mentioned briefly before that this was a possibility. Well, tickets have been purchased. Let all the planning begin:) But that is not for a couple of months. I will not worry about airports and airport security for now. I am simply enjoying summer. Yes, the heat as well. It’s hot. I’ve even done some sweating…and I do not sweat. But summer will always be my favorite. Bring on July and August!! Hope you are looking forward to the next few months – and that your June was a blessed one! Thanks for stopping by –
It sounds like you had some good walks and quite a WALK across that skybridge. Also yah to no port! That has to be a huge relief. Your Panama trip is exciting, dreading of flying notwithstanding. Tyler is such a cutie!
Maria – thanks for stopping by. Yes, hooray to no port and, for sure, Tyler is quite the cutie!:) Have a great day my friend!
SO good to have you back blogging! I missed you. 🙂
Oh my…walking across that bridge is something I could never have done…and good for you for keeping up your walking after you got home!
I just flew for the first time in many years when we went to Maine. I worried myself sick for weeks over going through security because of the metal Ihave in my body from surgeries, but the TSA people couldn’t have been kinder. I’m ready to start flying again! 😉 I will be praying for you when I know you are going to be flying again.
We saw that bridge when we were in Gatlinburg and I just thought “nope!, no way!” Good for you for giving it a try.
I am the same way about flying and have been for years… I don’t have a fear of flying but going to and through the airport/ security gives me lots of anxiety which manifests itself physically and add in all the uncertainty of flights leaving and arriving on time and airlines overbooking flights, etc. and it makes it even worse. Then, these past couple of years I’ve noticed flying itself also leaves me with an odd vertigo-like feeling for a few hours and even days after flying. I refuse to let it stop me from traveling but I also don’t hate the idea of vacations where we can drive and not have to deal with airplanes and airports at all.
Hi Jennifer! I’m happy to hear you had a safe trip and a wonderful visit with your friend. And good for you for walking so much while you were away and for keeping it up once you returned home. I admit the heat and humidity have been keeping me from walking as much as I’d like to. Maybe I need to try going in the mornings, like you. Honestly, after our long twelve-hour drive to Florida, I don’t think I mind flying. I don’t fly all that often so I’m not bothered by it. Like you, even though it’s very hot and humid here where we live I do love summer and all the goodness that comes along with it, especially the longer days. I hope you are having a lovely weekend!
The baby is Adorable!!! Those eyes are beautiful…
I also hate to fly…uggggg
Happy week!
hugs

Good job on walking the bridge at Gatlinburg. I want to do it, but my husband…well, not so much. I need to take one of my daughters with me, I think! Enjoy July!
Missed you today. xx
Glad you enjoyed your trip to NC and Tennessee. I loved our visit to TN a few years ago and I hope we can go back and see more of it. That bridge would scare me too, and the only way I’d cross it would be if my husband was holding my hand the whole time. Hope you’re having a great summer so far!
Hello Jennifer. I have never enjoyed flying, especially take off and landing. It is a means to an end though because there are still lots of places I want to visit. So for now, I will close my eyes and think of the wonderful destination I’m headed for 🙂
Well done for getting across the suspension bridge – a real achievement especially with a breeze blowing.
I hope Tyler had a wonderful fun day for his first birthday. Such a sweet baby smile. They grow up so quickly don’t they.
Wishing you a bright and sunny July x
I’m glad you enjoyed some time away, and well done for conquering the bridge! It looks pretty scary to me! The mission trip sounds exciting – look forward to hearing more about that!
Hey Jennifer, yay for a great trip to TN! I just got back from a trip to TN yesterday. I enjoyed getting to see my sister and brother and most of their families. I need something to get my mojo going with walking again! I was SO good at it last year, but this year it is like I am afraid to get out and do it, I can’t motivate myself, and I Love to to walk! I am just on the struggle bus. Tyler is super cute, thanks for sharing a pic. Have a great week!
Jen, what a fantastic month! I’m so happy you got to go away to NC and Tyler is so precious.
