Hello and Happy Friday! And hello to a break in the heatwave. It is overcast, a bit drizzly and, more importantly, almost 20 degrees cooler this morning than the bulk of the week has been. The grass, the bushes and all my outdoor plants are visibly saying “ahhh.” I’m right there with ’em. It has been hot! Speaking of nature, we have the smallest baby bunny living under one of our azalea bushes. He seems to be on his own (sigh) but is small and so skinny. Of course, we have taken to leaving food out for him and he has been more entertaining than all the pretty birds lately. Yes, I do enjoy bird watching:) Now we are all about bunny watching. But let’s move on to this month’s installment of Share Four Somethings. As always, the entire link-up can be found here starting tomorrow. This month,
some things I have loved – travel! June was the month to get away. I really am a homebody. I like to be at home. And I like to be with my people at home:) But I do enjoy opportunities to get away every once in awhile. It just happened that most of the opportunities were back to back this month. I was reminded that not only can I enjoy being out of my routine and off a schedule but I also rather enjoy it! And I actually cannot put my suitcase back in storage just yet. I will be going away a couple more times before summer’s end. Who am I?? I super excited about my next trip! Any idea where I might be headed? Here in the US but a bit of a flight.
some things I have learned – so many of the things we fret, stew, and/or worry over truly are of little consequence. Often that play little or even no part in our future or our days. We give so many trivial or insignificant things too much of our time and mental energy. This is not something new that I’ve learned but surely something I have been reminded of more than a few times in the last weeks and months.
some things that went well – my cruise went well. I highlighted that experience here but I, have to admit, I did have some concerns about the trip. About traveling with a nightowl. And a sunlover. I wanted my friend and I to still be friends when we got back…if you know what I mean. Friends over coffee does not always translate into roommates – just sayin. Would we have the same idea of a great vacation? Truthfully, I’m not sure we do but we still had a great time together. Maybe we do more than I’m admitting, but I think our trip is something that went really well. I so appreciate her putting up with me!
something I need to let go of – the fact that I am a bit of fuddy duddy. Or, more specifically, worrying how much that impacts others. I am who I am. I was quite concerned about that truth when I traveled with friends to Nashville back in May and it was (quite) often rumbling in the back of my mind over the last three weeks of so. In the end, it seemed to be a non-factor. My friends know me well. (And they seem to like me/tolerate me just fine!) I need to stop worrying so much.
Funny side note. I was looking up the definition of fuddy duddy. The “use it in a sentence” example was: “a fuddy-duddy who thought that anyone too young to vote shouldn’t be out past 8:00 p.m.” Well….isn’t that the truth?? LOL
Oh well, friends. Thanks for showing up here so regularly. Your visits are one of the highlights of my week. Thanks for reading this ole fuddy duddy’s posts. Glad we can be friends!! Have a great weekend!
Oh Jennifer, you don’t strike me as a fuddy duddy. Now, my husband is definitely one and that of a crusty curmudgeon. I am relieved for the break in heat, but a little (okay, a lot) less humidity would be more appreciated. We have at least 3 bunnies in our yard this year and they are always fun to fun. Have a wonderful weekend!
A break in the humidity (even a small one) has been so nice this morning! Oh boy…three bunnies can only mean more bunnies soon!:)
20 degrees cooler sounds lovely!! We also have a bunny living in our bush out front. I just added him a bunch of veggies to my grocery delivery today! I love your something “learned”. I needed that reminder.
Oh Crystal, those 20 degress gone has been quite lovely!!
Fun post, I will have to give some thought to the “4 things”
Enjoyed readidng yours.
We’re having the same weather today. When I went out this morning, I felt I needed a cardigan, even though the temperature said it was 72 degrees. It certainly didn’t feel it. How delightful that you have a baby bunny to take care of for a while. They are such sweet little things. I will follow your link and read more about your cruise after I have sent this. I am sure your friends love you as we do out here, Thank you for another lovely read my friend, and have a great weekend!
OH yes it was such a relief when that heat wave finally broke! Though I’m not sure why we can’t seem to find that in between weather this spring/summer.. it’s either in the 60’s and raining or above 90 (into the 100’s)! I wouldn’t mind some nice 80 degree days… just saying.
I try to be a bit more flexible than I otherwise might be when traveling; especially when traveling with others. I try to remind myself the important part is spending time with family and friends which allows me to let go of my routine and expectations a bit more. I’m excited to see where you’re off to next!
The humidity in Austin just this week was in the 90% area. Just gross. As for worry, I have been listening to some interesting Buddhist recordings on worry, anxiety, etc. and it is really helpful. I am learning to let go of worry more and more, and this contributes to my overall mental well-being. If you and a friend made it through a cruise together, you can go anywhere! (:
Gosh it is so hot today – no relief from the heat here in GA.
I would love to travel – however – no mon no fun!
LOL
I am pretty sure I am a few years older than you and I have fuddy duddy characteristics, too. But that’s okay. If people can accept the wild things that are so popular now, they should be able to put up with (or at least overlook) our old-fashioned, very modest ways.
Regarding being out past 8pm, I often say “there’s nothing good going on after midnight”, which means people should be at home by then, preferably fast asleep in their beds (service workers, law enforcement, etc are the exception, of course).
Oh, I always worry about that too (fuddy duddy!). I feel like I am somehow holding people back. It’s great that you had a fun time on your cruise, I need to go read about it. June passed in a blur for me. We also have a baby bunny, baby groundhogs, and baby deer visiting our yard. Sadly, we keep seeing one baby and wonder what happened to it’s mom and sibling. Have a great weekend!
So glad your cruise went well and that you and your friend got on well together. That’s quite an adventure to travel with a friend! I don’t think you’re a fuddy-duddy – but I think we all have a few fuddy-duddy habits and preferences if we’re honest. LOL I’m trying to embrace a few fuddy-duddy tendencies myself. 😉 Hope your July is off to a great start!
