And, just like that, it is the end of another month. Almost as hard to believe as waking up to sunshine yesterday…and I don’t see rain in the forecast for days! We survived over a week’s worth of rainy, wet days. It sure was nice to get the grass cut last evening. Everything is in it green stage and looks so nice. Today is this month’s Share Four Somethings post and I have a feeling the weather is going to figure into my thoughts. Let’s see. In May, something….
I LOVED – was, yes, the return of sunshine! The rainy days felt cozy in the beginning, but that wore off and the grey days were really making my attitude just as soggy. I love sunshine. I love getting outside the first thing in the morning – deadheading the blooms (which were feeling just as water-logged as I was) and feeding the squirrels. Yes, I have taken to feeding the squirrels. I don’t fill the birdfeeder in the warmer months so there is little competition. And, a few months from now, I might regret inviting the squirrels to breakfast but, right now, they are just too cute each morning! I also love walking in the sunshine much more than trying to dodge rain showers. Earlier this month (before the rain set in), I tried walking home from our nearby shopping center. I had my husband drop me off and then was on stand-by to pick me up when I needed it. I did not make it all the way home but I could have gone further than I did. There is one major intersection that I have to cross and, yes, there are crosswalks but it was “rush hour” and I just don’t trust all these drivers. I will give it another try soon.
THAT SUSTAINED ME – or has very much encouraged me have been my regular visits with my senior friend who is in rehab after a fall and broken leg. This is the same friend that was recently widowed. Her plate (mentally and emotionally) is full. Full and overflowing. Some days, she has felt like quitting. But she has persevered. Kept at it and, my goodness, the progress she has made is amazing. Not sure how much longer she will need to be in the rehab but she has been such an inspiration for me.
I AM CARRYING FORWARD – that attitude of refusing to give up during challenging circumstances. To resist using overwhelming emotions as justification to quit/give up. I’m going to need some of my friend’s determination in the next few days. (And, no doubt, I’ll need it again some time down the road.) But that’s okay. She can do it..and so can I.
I AM MAKING SPACE FOR – summer fun/activities. There are several outdoor concerts, festivals and annual drama already on my calendar. There are several restaurants that I want to try soon and I went to the library yesterday. I checked out some fun summer reads – actual books to hold in my hand:) I also have some craft ideas to try (we will see how that works out) as well as some fun summer lesson ideas for Junior Church. Bring on the summer vibes….I see lots of cold glasses of ice tea in my future! Delicious all the time but extra special in these summer months:)
And, that’s it for another month. What have you been loving in Mayl? Do you have the extra rain this month like we did here on the east coast? Is there anything special you are making space for lately? Let me know in the comments and I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend ahead. As always, thanks for stopping by today!
We, here in central Florida, are just beginning to get some of those summer afternoon rains. We need rain so badly!! I enjoyed your post and am happy your friend in rehab is doing so well!! Wishing you a lovely weekend!!
I have enjoyed the rain that we had in my part of Virginia. It gave a refresh to the yard and acreage as it was hard seeing it look like it does in August (dry and brown) during April and May. I see there is rain in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday. I say bring it on. May is my birth month so it has been fun celebrating that with friends and family. Wishing you a terrific weekend, Jennifer!
What wonderful Share 4 Somethings for May Jen. I’m loving that the sunshine is back too.
We here in California are saying good bye to our rainy season and a big hello to our dry season. We’re always going into it hoping and praying we’ll have enough of that snow pack to keep us afloat. ( no pun intended) I do look forward to the dry heat but come mid August I’m longing for cooler temperatures.
May went by fast but it was intense with all kind of unexpected changes for me.
Have a great weekend.
Oh yes we have had a pretty rainy month too and I also am looking forward to lots of summer fun!
Well, I was looking forward to getting outside with the grandkids, but yesterday we weren’t out there very long and a bee started chasing us and wouldn’t leave us alone, so inside we went. Uggg. I remember what I don’t like about summer…BUGS! Today the older kids are coming. We shall see how it goes 🙂
Well, we desperately need the rain here in central Florida…hmm on space…I have been watching this show called Living Big in a Tiny House on YouTube…people are so brave, smiles. Wishing you a beautiful weekend, smiles.
Oh Jennifer I am loving your porch! So warm and vibrant and welcoming.
Kind of like her owner . . .
Happy Saturday, friend!
What a great post, Jennifer! I’m proud of you for attempting to walk home on your own! As I’ve stated, we live within walking distance of a few stores/businesses and it’s nice when the weather cooperates to walk to and/or from the businesses. Speaking of weather, we are out of our rainy era (for now) as well. Seeing the sun shine has been nice (though not as nice with no AC :(). I hope reading and crafting goes well!
Hello Jennifer. I’m sorry that I’ve not been around much of late. We had family here for a week and then I spent the remainder of this past week after they returned home to try and get caught up on things around here…both inside and outside. I totally understand about all of the rain! It rained every single day our family was here from Maine. The grass grew like crazy…as did the weeds. 🙂 We had tickets to visit Fallingwater which is only about 45 minutes from here and we even got to visit it in the rain. 🙂 It was amazing though to see how Frank Lloyd-Wright designed this home for the Kaufman family so they would actually be living “in nature”.
I’ll be interested to hear how long you continue with feeding the squirrels. I’m sure they are enjoying knowing they can return morning after morning and find the food you have put out for them. We’ve taken down our bird feeders for the summer and are currently enjoying the hummingbirds coming to the feeders. They’ve grown quite accustomed to us being on the porch and still come and take long drinks at our feeders.
I hope you have a lovely week ahead of you, my friend. xx
Glad the clouds have parted and the sun has come out for you. We are in the opposite boat. I am glad to report that we are having several consecutive days of rain. I love it. And my yard loves it. Not crazy about the humidity but I can live with it for a bit. Just so nice to be able to turn off the sprinklers and let Mother Nature handle the watering.
Sounds like your senior friend has certainly been through more than her fair share of tragedy lately. But I am happy she is doing better and will soon graduate from rehab. Thankful you can lift each other up.
Tea. I used to drink and make iced tea all the time. Had a sun tea container and then an actual tea maker like a coffee maker. Rarely drink it any more. The caffeine interferes with me. But there is nothing better than a big icy glass on a hot summer day.
