Hello and happy Wednesday! I hope it has been a nice week so far. It has been a rainy one here on the east coast. It has rained every day for a week. As in, (just about) all day, every day. Rather unusual for weather around here. I’m looking forward to some sunshine. Maybe tomorrow?? I’m not sure but fingers crossed…
Wednesdays are, apparently, for joining the Hodge Podge. Let’s get started:
1. Do you like your name? Are you named after someone? If you have children how did you choose their names? I like my first name but have never been overly fond of my middle name. I’ll keep it “under wraps” as ever time I mention it (after having said I don’t like it), it is someone’s favorite grandma, friend or other dear one….and I’ve put my foot in my mouth. Not this time. I’m not completely positive, but I remember hearing that my father chose the name Jennifer after an actress. Interestingly, I was trying to look up actresses back then with the name Jennifer. Turns out there were not many. That surprised me because the name seems to be very popular during the 60s and 70s.
When selecting our children’s names, we did use some family names but not for the name they would go by. (Both our boys went by their middle names.) Their given names are simply ones that we really like. And still really like:)
2. A piece of red velvet cake, a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a slice of blueberry pie? Which one will you choose? If you could pick any red, white, or blue dessert other than those listed here, what would you choose? None of the three listed really appeal to me but, having to make a decision, I would go with cake. I’m not a huge pie fan and, well, vanilla ice cream? Is that even a legitimate dessert?? Now, white chocolate bread pudding….that is a proper dessert! One I would choose any time – like I did for my birthday last month:)
3. What’s a job you’d like to try for just one day? I’m not sure. Perhaps a small bookshop owner. I’m not even an avid reader but the idea of working in/running a quirky bookshop – stuffed with old books and overstuffed chairs for lounging – sounds like a lot of fun. Or maybe I’ve just been reading too many cozy mysteries!?
4. Any patriotic decor in your home currently or coming up this summer? I did not get any red, white and blue up for Memorial Day. That is a shame. I don’t have much patriotic decor anymore but I will add a few touches here and there. Hopefully, soon. Sigh. (Photo from last year. Just to keep me accountable.)
5. It’s the end of May, so let’s exercise our brains. Sum up your month with an acrostic using the word MAY. We can do it!!
May – a month of ups and downs. A lot like the weather, much of life has been unpredictable. Trying to be
Adaptable, flexible and to keep a positive attitude. But ever so thankful for my word for the
Year – anchored. I’ve needed extra anchoring this month.
6. Insert your own random thought here. We are almost finished with Bible study before we break for the summer. I have already mentioned that I did not enjoy this study very much. Ok, not at all. But, I continued to go each week. It is, obviously, completely voluntary and I am (no longer) part of the leadership team. But once I start, I feel as if it is a commitment that I must see through to the end. Do you feel like this? Would you have bowed out quietly? I’m not sure this is a strength/good thing or not on my part. I am like this with many things. Even reading a book. I, somehow, have to finish what I started. Goodness but I have slogged my way through many a lousy book!! I’ve been known to cling to friendships that were past their season. Just to say, relationships…important. Books read…not so much. But the mindset shows up in many places. So random….put this is the spot for our own random thought:)
Hello,
Your random has me thinking. I am a lot like you, I feel like I need to press on. Even when my heart has left.
No rain here in Wisconsin. We are getting dry, very dry and no rain in the forecast.
We hit 90 degrees yesterday, that is not our normal May 26th temperature. And to think last week we had a low of 37!!
Now I’m curious what the study was. Hmmm….I tend to be a hanger-oner too. We woke up to day six of rain here too. In spite of all the rain that’s fallen it seems we still need more to technically be out of drought conditions. I need to see the sun! I went to school with a lot of Jennifers but I don’t feel like you hear it as much in this generation of babies being born. Anchor was my word last year and it was a doozy. It’s so ‘funny’ how that seems to work : ) Have a great day!
being a bookshop owner would be fun to see all the books I want to see but I don’t know if I would like to deal with costumers.
I always thought I would like to be a librarian or work in a bookstore if I didn’t become a teacher. You made me chuckle over your comment about vanilla ice cream even being a dessert. 🤣 I would pick it over blueberry pie and even red velvet cake. I don’t know if I was named for someone. Happy Wednesday, Jennifer!
I stepped down from BSF leadership this year to pursue another ministry at a crisis pregnancy clinic. When I make a committment I stick to it and about mid year, I felt God showing me another path He wanted me to take. I’m in my seventies and there’s so much I want to do in serving God and so little time. My younger years I was just too busy and now I feel at times, I’m up against a ticking clock. Just do what God puts on your heart and you never have to look back .
Hey I’m on WP now. I made the switch after so many unforgivable Blogger glitches. Im glad I did. Im still on Blogger for the Hodgepodge for awhile.
I’m interested to know what the study/book was that you didn’t care for (I perceive that you and I would have fairly similar takes on studies). I don’t think there’s anything wrong with stating a name that you don’t care for but I see where you are coming from all the same :). Have a great day!
Jennifer was a really popular name when I was at school. There were quite a few in my year group.
I agree, vanilla ice cream is not a real dessert. hehehe I love the sound of chocolate bread pudding!
I like your acrostic of May. My word last year was Anchored. 🙂
I do like bread pudding. 🙂
I dropped out of Bible study a year ago. It just did not interest me, and two hours that turned into nearly three hours was much too long when it wasn’t interesting to me. The older I get, the easier it is to say “no” and to stick with things that bring me joy. I enjoyed your Hodgepodge! Happy hump day!
I said bookstore too. I was just remembering that my MIL always goes by her middle name and the first time I heard her real first name I had no idea who was being referred to.
Jennifer was a very popular name in the 60s and 70s – at least as many Jennifers in my classes at school as Kims! LOL I do think running a bookstore would be a fun job in many ways.
I have persevered through more than a few Bible study books I didn’t care for simply because it would have rocked the boat too much for me to quit. Or my reasons for not liking it were kind of nitpicky. With a book, I try to give it at least a quarter of the way through before I give up on it, unless I actively hate it. Unfortunately I’ve been in a couple of book clubs over the years and that has resulted in me reading a book I really disliked because it was someone’s pick in the club and I agreed to read and discuss.
Hope you’re having a great week!
Running a quirky bookshop does sound like fun! I think Jennifer is one of those names that always seems to have been quite popular. I remember having lots of them in our school.
