Happy Friday, friends! Time for this month’s Share Four Somethings. I hope you will check out the full link-up Jennifer’s blog tomorrow. It is always interesting to see what everyone has loved over the last three or four weeks. How they enjoyed their month as well as what they have been trying to improve:) It’s a fun link-up, so let’s get started. Looking back at October, I have
loved – the picture perfect weather, breaking out some of my fall wardrobe (which is usually replaced with something more spring like the very next day), and several really pretty fall festivals. I think our favorite fall activity is finding a fall festival to visit each weekend. Okay, there are probably other favorites but we do enjoy the outdoor festivals. I love the pop-up food vendors, the creative decorating inspiration, finding a treasure to bring home and even the crowds. We met the nicest folks over lunch earlier this month. The four of us chatted long after lunch was over and then went our separate ways. They were on the hunt for a specific treasure. It was a fun afternoon! I hope they found that trellis/gazebo thingy they drove two hours to find!!
A couple of other things I have been loving this month: my fall diffuser blend. My newest one this season is called Grandma’s Pie. Not exactly sure how “her pie” compares to another pie. But I do know my house smells nice. Smells yummy. And very fall-ish:) We have also enjoyed several soup and sandwich meals. Those of some of my favorites!! I am on a complete grilled cheese kick right now. Would definitely say it is the perfect fall comfort food. Tell me: what is the perfect fall comfort food (or fall food, in general) for you??
tried to improve – my crochet. And I think it is actually working. Maybe. Just a little. I meet with a group of friends each month who love to work with yarn. Actually, I think they just love yarn!!:) Every month I would tell them that I was just practicing until, last month, a good friend challenged me and said I was ready to move past practicing. I think she saw past my need to be perfect and my needlework insecurity around all of them. Their projects are beautiful. Mind you, my latest effort looks nothing like these but I do see significant progress. And I am really enjoying working on it – as opposed to grinding my way through lit (much like practicing piano in my former life…)!
accomplished – choosing a children’s program for Christmas this year. Of course, ten minutes after I made the commitment to do so, I was kicking myself while saying, “What have you gotten into?” This project always sounds fun in my head but, every year, it grows just a bit more and becomes more involved. It really is cute (and I actually do enjoy it), but it is alot of work as well. That said, we have parts assigned, set ideas and plans, and I have just about completed the script. Honestly, that is the easy part!!
Well, we do have a few more days of October, but this month is almost in the history books. Here’s to a good month ahead. More festivals. More sun-drenched days and cool evenings. More days with the windows open:) Thoughts of family dinners and pretty tablescapes. Maybe even a little Christmas shopping. And, no matter how you celebrate (or don’t celebrate) Halloween, I hope it at least include some cuteness like this:
Oh, that little guy at the end! Be still my heart!
Crocheting is fun…especially after I get a pattern set in my brain so that my hands follow sorta automatically along. 🙂
Your fall blend for your diffuser sounds nice. What brand of essential oils do you use, if I may ask.
Have a great weekend and enjoy a festival for me. I think we are going to a state park close by on Saturday.
That will be fun…whenn I reach the stage of crochet where my hands just follow along. That is how my friends crochet. It is so impressive:)
I want to encourage you with the crocheting. I am not perfect at it but I enjoy it. I also taught myself how to knit and I love that just as much now. You really do learn from just jumping into a project.
Christmas programs! Oh how fun and how nerve racking at the same time! I hope you enjoy it. What a cute little one! I don’t celebrate Halloween anymore but I love it when cute costumes are chosen over the scary ones.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend Jennifer!
Nerve racking is a good term for Chrismtas programs – lol! Hoping it will be fun as well:) Glad you stopped by, Monica!
My mom crocheted and I used to until I had kids and haven’t picked up the crochet hooks since the 70’s. I have all my mom’s crochet hooks etc and keep meaning to get back into that.
I’d start back in with the simple – potholders, dishcloth, or a scarf – I think it will come back to me, at least I hope. My mom made clothings, collars that she’d attach to clothing she sewed, dollies- I’d like to make some new dollies to give to my sons – they might never use them but they would have something I made by my hands.
I might join in this Share Four things on Friday next month or after the new year.
Thanks for sharing and God bless you. That little guy is adorable. 🥰
A potholder sounds like a great place to start – thanks, Debby!! I would love to one day be able to make a doillie. I love them! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, Debby and I’m always glad when you stop by!!
I love the last paragraph that you wrote! Whimsically written and apt as well :). That picture accompanying the paragraph is great as well. So much goodness! Good luck with the junior church program- no matter how it turns out, likely much cuteness will be a large part of it so I would focus on that!! Have a great weekend!
Thanks Maria!! Hope your weekend is a good one as well. You guys always find the best ways to make the most of the weekend!!
Hi Jennifer 🙂 I do love a grilled cheese! Mine are kind of basic, but a friend made me one time that had multiple cheeses, apple slices and I don’t know what else, but I’ve never been able to duplicate it. I need to ask because it was so good! I did make one with raspberry jam on the inside and that one was delicious too.
Have a wonderful weekend, hopefully full of more beautiful weather! We’ve turned back to hot and muggy here in Texas. Blah.
Such a great post, Jennifer. Thank you for sharing and the smiles. Wishing you a beautiful day, my friend.
What a wonderful month of all the fall things! I enjoyed some fall events this month as well, which was something I hadn’t done before. I love that you chose the children’s program for Christmas, and even though it does sound like hard work, I’d imagine it’s also a blessing to you and to others. I hope you enjoy your Saturday and weekend, my friend!
Oh Jennifer, that adorable little guy in that last shot!! What a precious photo. Children’s Christmas programs are so great but the work put into them is GREAT, too. Our play/musical has a western theme this year and our granddaughter is part of it. They practice every Sunday night. She will be part of a trio, too. May God give you strength and stamina and patience. Hope your last weekend in October is sweet!!
I love a good grilled cheese sandwich too! It sounds like you have had lots of fun with the fall festivals. Good job improving on your crochet; that definitely seems like one of those skills that you develop the more you do it. I love that your group challenged you to move onto the next step.
How lovely! I enjoyed reading this Jennifer. I would definitely keep crocheting. These are so pretty and I have thought of taking this up myself. I am sure you will do a great job with the Christmas program. My daughter-in-law teaches piano and organizes recitals every Christmas. She is always stressed but she always does an amazing job and I know you will too. Applauding you here! What an adorable little elf and that costume is so cute. Happy week to you my friend.
Thanks much, Denise. So glad you stopped by…and hope your week is off to a good start!!
We are really enjoying having the windows open, too. Good sleeping. And our electricity bill was down 30%!! Hallelujah!!
Proud of you to have done so well with your crocheting. I really want to learn but just don’t have time for another hobby right now. Maybe if I can finally finish the last X-stitch I will ever do, then I can move into crochet.
How fun to have so many seasonal festivals. Who sponsors them? Churches? Little neighborhoods or communities? We really don’t have anything like that. Hope there are plenty more in store for your November.
It seems like most of the festivals are put on by small local governments (small towns around us). There are quite a few around here. Um, towns AND festivals:) I’m so glad you have gotten the windows open. Hope that Texas heat is taking a bit of a break for you!!
I love crocheting! I taught myself when we were in lockdown and haven’t looked back! I’ve joined a group called ‘knit and natter’ and we meet up on Fridays taking it in turns to host and provide lunch. They are such lovely ladies and we all help and encourage each other, I’m so pleased I joined them.
That little cutie is adorable! I don’t really celebrate Halloween but I do like to see the little children in their dress up clothes.
Your group sounds like a lot of fun, Deb. I like the name, too:) My friend calls the group that meets at her house – Flock. Sheep. Yarn. Flock. Haha – always trying to be creative:)
Oh the last photo! So cute!
He does make my heart smile, Karen:)
