Happy Friday, friends! I should have posted yesterday. Or at least I think that was the day for posting. At this point, I’m a bit confused myself. I was/am considering posting M/W/F again but thought I would ease back into it by alternating two posts as week with three posts a week. Good grief. I don’t even know when to expect a post….and I’m the blog owner! Sigh. Thanks to all of you who stop by so regularly and I apologize to those who tire of reading the “same old post.” I will get it together soon. Let’s hope.
All that aside, we have come to the end of another month. September was busy for me and in all the nicest of ways. I mentioned last month that September is my favorite and these last four weeks did not disappoint. Although I have recently recapped the month’s “big event” (my trip to Panama), I’ll still end the month with this month’s Share Four Something. Don’t forget to check out the full link-up on Jennifer’s blog tomorrow. So, looking back at September, I have
loved – both getting away and getting back home. I spent the beginning of the month planning my trip and looking forward to a bit of break from the everyday. The routine. And, now, the last week or so, I have really enjoyed getting back into that routine. A break certainly has its benefits and my trip was, very much, enjoyed and a blessing but, the truth is….I thrive on routine. My heart has just been happy to not only be home but to be back in the normal rhythm and routine of life. Ahh…..
A couple of other things I have been loving this month: the cardigan weather lately. Is it officially cardigan season? Most mornings, I start with a cardigan which I love. It might not last all day but I’m totally okay with that as well. I also discovered a new breakfast sandwhich at Starbucks. I have not been to Starbucks in ages but had a few gift cards lying around so decided to run by one morning. I had hoped to use the gift cards in Panama but, alas, the Starbucks there do not use gift cards…so they were still in my bag. Anyhoo, the egg, pesto and mozzarella sandwich was delish. It may not even be new but it was to me and now I know how to use the rest of those cards!
tried to improve – my appreciation of all things pumpkin spice. I try this every year about this time. It has yet to work….at least, very much. I love the concept and all the fall feelings evoked at just the mention of the two words but so much of it is just plain disappointing. I don’t even try with the drinks but I do find myself falling for the treats (like Krispy Kreme pumpkin spice donuts!) and other dishes. Even the pumpkin pasta ones. I almost bought (another) pumpkin spice season sign yesterday. But I got ahold of myself. Also of note…last month, I mentioned trying to improve my attitude. That is definitely a work in progress. I was counting on all the pumpkin spice to help. Oh well.
accomplished – a two-hour boat ride (while in Panama) without one feeling of wooziness or other distress. Hooray. I did use the patch but often wonder if I am a big girl now and have, um, outgrown getting seasick. It has been years since the last time that happened to me. Of course, I pretty much always have the patch so how could you know? I don’t think I will chance it. It was great to be on the water….without my head hanging over the side of the boat. Ugh. I also have to document that I handled airport security as an adult as well. No breathing into a paper sack for me. No way. It all went super smooth and I am very (very!) grateful!!
noticed – it is getting harder to wake up and get myself out of bed. I know a lot of folks hate it, but I’m ready for the clocks to change….if just for a little more light in the mornings. I know I’ll get adjusted and, come winter, I will be saying how much I enjoy the slow, dark mornings but, right now, I am missing the early morning sun. And my early morning walks. I have not yet embraced walking in the dark. I have also noticed that I can easily “put off” walking when it is raining. I would love to be more dedicated. But, apparently, I am not. I am a work in progress:)
I’m somewhat sad to see September come to an end but, of course, time keeps rolling. Here’s to a wonderful month ahead. There is so much beauty in October. I’m hoping to spend a lot of time outside. And hoping to bring some of the natural beauty into my soul as well:) Thanks for reading, friends. Let me know one of your highlights from September!
I almost always feel the same way that you do about travel- glad to have gotten away and then glad to be home. Speaking of ¨glad,¨ I am glad that your various means of transportation did not cause undue mental or physical stress :). I feel no compunction in eschewing pumpkin spice. I don´t hate it but I am not crazy about it so why embrace it just because it´s popular in the culture? Enjoyed reading your answers to the prompts. Have a great weekend!
Maria – I’m not exactly a “people pleaser” but I don’t try to ruffle feathers needlessly. And folks can have very strong feelings about their PSLs! I try to get along but, well, they just taste bleh!:) So glad you stopped by today!!
You made me chuckle with this: “I handled airport security as an adult.” And congrats on not having to hang your head off the side of the boat! I’ve been on one real (Alaska’s Inside Passage in about 2006). Wore the ear patch and did very well, even during a turbulent day at sea.
Cardigan weather: we don’t get much of that where I live but when it’s here, I love it!
Oh yes…hooray for the ear patch! Aren’t you glad you had one?:) I’m really sorry you don’t get much cardigan weather. They are my favorite!!:)
jen so good to hear more tidbits about your trip
it had to be amazing…you were so prepared foe everything …
been catching up with you on your blog and want to let you know
i have really enjoyed the smell of pumkin spice this month
it makes it feel like autumn
and the best thing about september this year is the weather … it has been surprisingly fallish like it is suppose to be…
you enjoy your weekend as well
Trisha, you are the best!! Glad you are enjoying all the PSL smells…and you really should try that sandwich at Starbucks! Just sayin.
Hello there! I am similar to you, my friend. My mom had a saying, ” It’s nice to go and even nicer to be back home. Have a cozy weekend!
Moms always say the wisest things! I agree, BillieJo…thanks!
I wish I could be more consistent in my blogging too but it is what it is, right? I always look forward to your posts. I’m not a fan of the dark mornings either and as a school van driver it can be quite frustrating trying to navigate in the dark. And I love traveling but nothing can beat the feeling of being home and in that regular routine, as you say. I hope you have a great weekend. It’s been very rainy here in Pennsylvania.
Oh Dawn, I’m sure driving early in the morning is the funniest. Be safe…and I hope you are having a good weekend. Thanks for stopping by!!
We usually don’t wear cardigans or sweaters until like late December here in Florida. I love being on a boat…I think I must have sea legs or whatever lol. Have a beautiful day, Jennifer! Thank you for the many smiles.
Hi Jennifer! I loved reading your post! I agree, some of the best journeys, always bring your home – and home is wonderful. I’m so happy that your didn’t get sea sick, that can ruin a trip in a hurry. September did go by so quickly! We are still having beautiful weather here in Idaho. In fact, it’s suppose to be in the high 80’s today… crazy for September! I love pumpkin spice, and like you, look for anything that even looks like it might be, pumpkin spice. Hope to see you soon! Hugs, Barb
Look at you almost embracing pumpkin spice!! I have yet to have my first taste of it this season. But it was 100* yesterday so it doesn’t feel appropriate to be drinking/eating pumpkin in that summery heat. Hoping to heavens with the new month, we finally move into autumn.
Yay for managing the 2-hour boat ride without issue. My daughter and one son-in-law get very motion sick. They have had some success with the patch and the bracelets. Not sure how they work but just glad they do.
Wonderful that your trip went so smoothly, with no seasickness or airport anxiety attacks! As good as vacations are, I think we all do thrive on routines – some of us just have trouble admitting it! I also have trouble staying motivated to go outside and walk if it’s rainy and gloomy, and that’s something I’m trying to improve upon. Have a great week!
I haven’t been nearly as motivated to get out of bed either and I hear you on not doing well with walking in the rain… I tend to talk myself right out of time spent outside whenever we have any sort of inclement weather. Yay for managing a nice long boat ride without sea sickness; I bet that is such a relief! I find that for each trip I stress so much about airport security and yet I don’t think we have ever really had much of a problem with it… but for some reason I think I will each time we travel!
So glad you had a great time in Panama. I enjoyed reading your review of the trip. Ooo, that Starbucks sandwich sounds yummy. I need to try that. I love ALL things pumpkin spice, drinks, treats and all! Have a great October!
Jennifer, I’m with you … I love getting away and I love being at home. Trying to find the balance to make life a bit more of an adventure while still cultivating home-sweet-home.
I’m a homebody so I love being home and have great difficulties being away from home. It gets worse as I age!!
It’s most certainly cardigan weather here. The change in temperature has been very quick this year. No gentle slide into mellow Autumn. It is still a great time of the year, I just need to wrap up in a few more layers.
Glad the boat trip went better than expected. My hubby uses both travel bands and pills when he is on water and they have worked well- mostly. Have a good week.
Hi again my friend! I agree with everything you said about pumpkin spice lol. I used to like the drinks but now I’m so not a fan. But those donuts from Krispy Kreme Oh my Lands! They are amazing! We also picked up some Pumpkin bread mix I think it’s Libby’s brand, its delicious! Making some cookies and cakes this week to see how they are as well! I need a MAJOR attitude adjustment, funny that you said that haha! But maybe Pumpkin spice will help me too!
I am glad you had a wonderful trip! And I know its cozy season and I’m more than ready for routine 🙂 So nice catching up with you today!
Hello Jennifer! I’m like you…ready for the clocks to change so we can have a bit more of the early morning light. I’m a “morning person” but when I don’t see the daylight, I find it harder to throw those covers back and embrace a new day. I seriously need to get with it when it comes to pumpkin and all things fall related when it comes to cooking and baking! I did make my hubby some molasses cookies (and they had lots of spice to them) if that counts. 🙂
I’m glad you are back stateside and enjoying getting back into your routines. xx
