Happy Saturday…and I do not often type that but, here I am, blogging on the weekend! I hope everyone had a yummy Thanksgiving. It was a beautiful day here and I actually got a few photos. I thought I would include a a few along with this month’s Share Four Somethings. They might not exactly go with the prompts but, you get the idea. Just killing two birds with one stone – lol! (although I have never killed a bird…just sayin!) The rest of the link-up is found here. But for now, let’s get started. Looking back at November, I have
loved – a really nice day with my family on Thursday. The day started off wet and drizzly but before breakfast was even over, the rain had stopped and the sun was shining. We were able to take a long walk. Not exactly the hike we had hoped for but we were not willing to risk putting the dog in the car with muddy paws, etc. But the trails we discovered not too far from home were oh so pretty. We enjoy starting the day outside (and had even considered a 5K or something similar…maybe next year) and this year’s Thanksgiving morning was pretty much a perfect fall day. Sweatshirt weather, I call it. Of course, the day continued with food and then some more food. Our meal was delicious but, quite honestly, I tried a new-to-me baked oatmeal recipe for breakfast and it was my favorite of the day. I do love breakfast:) I am grateful for a full day together without huge expectations….and without drama. I went to bed, that night, feeling very blessed.
A couple of other things I have been loving this month: the fresh flowers my hubbie randomly brings home from the grocery store. The fact that he enjoys doing the grocery shopping. Works for me. He doesn’t mind going to several different stores either. Since I did not cook a turkey (I ordered just a pound from the HoneyBaked Ham story), I could not make gravy. The hunt was on for a yummy store-bought grave. We went from store to store purchasing and test-tasty both gravy and dressing. Lots of extra trips (and lots of gravy) but we had with it. Not all hubbies consider that fun, or even worth it, but we had a good time. The winner for us: Whole Foods. Just in case you were wondering.
I also really loved using my grandmother’s china for our Thanksgiving table. I have very few things from either one of my grandmothers but I am fortunate to have Grandma’s dishes. Hard to imagine how many of her meals I have eaten off of those dishes! Most of the time, they just sit in a cabinet in my dining room. Somewhat on display but not really enjoyed. It made my heart happy to pull them out and set the table with them this year!
tried to improve – my walking habit. Let’s just say, it is still a work in progress. Why does it take so long to form a good habit…yet the same habit can be undone in a matter of weeks. Or even days?? Sigh. Also trying to improve my holiday cheer. This is also a work in progress. With tomorrow being the first of December, I think I need to work a little harder.
accomplished – getting all the pilgrims, turkeys and leftover pumpkins off the shelves and back into their bins. I love my fall decor but, by this time, even I am ready to wrap everything carefully (a bit of a project) and return them to storage. As of today, the Christmas things are still in the basement. The furniture has been nicely dusted but is looking rather bare. I’m not sure how the minimalists do it. It is not the look that makes me feel cozy and “at home.” I don’t do clutter either but I do enjoy seeing “a few of our favorite things” throughout the house.
noticed – I do have a weakness for peppermint inspired hot drinks (who knew?), I don’t enjoy wrapping nearly as much as I did in years past, classic Christmas music is so much better than the newer songs, and it is basically impossible to think of something to gift my husband. He has a birthday this week. A milestone birthday. Trying to think of way to celebrate (much less a gift he would enjoy) has been challenging. If I pull it off – wonderful. But not sure I can think of another something for the end of the month. December birthdays are hard. Even harder when you have had as many as he has – lol!! I am looking forward to his big day, though!
And, just like that, the kitchen was closed. Thanks for stopping by and following along as I put Thanksgiving 2024 in the history books. As I said before, the blog friends who faithfully come to this blog of mine are genuine blessings. I appreciate each of you. I hope your December starts off well tomorrow. Here’s to a month ahead full of cheer and much joy!! I’m going to my first holiday bazaar of the season on Thursday. That should help with the holiday spirit!!:)
It sounds like you had a lovely Thanksgiving. It rained all day here but we really need the rain so I tried not to mind. I have often remarked on the same thing– it takes me months to get into a good exercise routine and it can all be undone in just a few short days and then I struggle to get it going again!
Regarding a gift for your hubby’s birthday and/or Christmas, you might log onto Personalization Mall. I’ve found some things there this year for my man. For his birthday I ordered a nice table-top clock that has a photo frame hinged to it. Two engraved pieces above and below a nice picture of the two of us say, “Gary and Barbara” and “Loving Our Life Together.” His birthday was in October and it, too, was a big one.
I always enjoy reading your blog and will continue!
Hi Jennifer!! Your Thanksgiving sounds so lovely! We also had a great one, just the main family, decorating for Christmas, eating yummy food, playing games, and relaxing together. I am also struggling to get back into the habit of walking. It was 22 degrees this morning and I wasn’t going outside, but I should have gotten on the treadmill. I have been struggling with exercise in general, part of it is related to my health, the other part is related to my I don’t want to, LOL! I wish I had a friend who lived nearby so I could have someone to walk with every once in a while, it would certainly help. Anyway, I am sorry I have been MIA for months, I have missed your blog. Hope you are doing well.
All great things in this post, my friend. Wishing you a beautiful Sunday.
Happy December! Your Thanksgiving sounds lovely, my friend. I hope you are having a cozy Sunday evening.
I’m so pleased to hear you had a great thanksgiving, and how lovely to get that special china out. You’re right, how many meals have been eaten off those plates? Happy family memories!
Good luck with the birthday gift hunt. My husband’s birthday is the 12th December and it’s hard to think of things to get him for his birthday AND Christmas two weeks later. I’m sure you will think of something great for his ‘special’ birthday!
Enjoyed reading your post this morning with your usual assortment of fun and reflection! I love that you used (not to mention own) your grandma’s china. It looks like a beauty :). Displaying it in a china cabinet hopefully uplifts you a little each time you see it but there is something about USING china that can’t be beat! I’m glad your Thanksgiving turned out lovely. I do hope you think of something special for your husband’s birthday. Something tells me that you will :).
I am happy that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We traveled to see our sons in Atlanta, and I am grateful, too.
I find that walking is less inspiring in the cold weather. Lol. But with your knack of finding beauty, you will persevere!
