Happy Monday, friends! To “old” friends and to all the new friends as well. There has been quite a bit more traffic and new faces around this blog and I want to say hello to everyone. I so enjoy meeting new visitors and, even if they don’t leave a comment, it is nice to know others have visited. If you are re-visiting, thanks so much for coming back! I can’t help it but I have to start this post with a thought about the weather. Goodness but it has been hot. You only have to know me casually in order to know that I love summer!! I try my best never to complain about anything summer; however, I must admit a break in the relentless heat would be most welcome!
I know several have September in view and are already dreaming of fall “just around the corner” and while I am not rushing fall at all, I’ll take a little less heat and a bit more breeze. That said, I want to enjoy the rest of summer days as best I can. So, I’ve created a bit of summer’s end to-do list. Just to keep me on track. The heat can bring out the procastinator in me so a little bit of list would be helpful. But before I get started, here a few things that I am really enjoy about summer – despite the humidity and the near 100 temperatures every day.
a brand new Brusters that opened near us recently
drinking more water…and it being so easy to do so
all the sunshine
the brightest blue skies in the morning when I walk
cute new sunglasses
fun summer earrings
going barefoot
lighter meals
the teeny bit of color I have gotten this year (thanks to those walks)
summer lipsticks..I’ve tried a few bright (for me) shades lately
Just a few things but that’s okay. Now for a couple things I would like to get done (or try my best to get done) before summer winds down and all thoughts turn toward autumn. I would like:
to bake a fruit cobbler – not exactly picky which king but peach sounds really yummy. I think I have only made one fruit inspired dessert this summer. What’s with that? That definitely needs to be rectified!
get one more summer-colored pedicure – maybe something orange. I’m not sure. I only paint my toes but try to have fun with the seasons, etc. I just recently had a pedicure and went with green but I would not say it is a summer green. I need at least one more summer pedicure before the fall colors grab my attention.
make raspberry scones – again, more fruit:) I made some caramel pecan scones the other day. They are tasty but were not my best effort. And caramel seems way too fall, in my opinion. PS – I do love scones:)
use up all my summery essential oils – the scents for fall are probably my favorite and if there is one thing I am ready to rush into for fall, it would be the smells around the house. But I need to finish the all summer scents first.
celebrate with two friends who have birthdays this month
choose a fall Bible study to attend – there are a couple that I am interested in but need to make decision, buy the book, etc. I am excited for Bible study to resume!
start thinking through what I have and what I need for my trip to Panama next month
finish shopping for prizes for the Junior Church end of summer party – always a highlight of our year and summer!
keep up my new walking habit – I am up to two miles a day…six days a week. I never would have imagined myself doing this and not sure what I will think once the weather turns but for now (and especially in the months ahead), I am taking advantage of the time to walk outside!
practice making candles – I know this sounds like a fall activity or hobby, but I would like to practice a bit and be ready for making fall candles. I tried my hand at this….probably over a year ago….and my candles always fell in the middle. What makes this happen? Not ready to throw in the towel on this hobby just yet. Would like to try again. And, Ireally (really!) need to…
make a dent in a huge organizational project – that is mocking me from the basement. I can’t say much more about it but it is a bit of a nightmare. Here’s hoping I can make some headway this month.
Well, that was a bit of an odd place to end. I debated putting that last one on the list but for my own accountability, there it is. Talk about procrastinating. Do you have anything special you would like to see accomplished in August? Or are you just holding on until those “ber months” get here?? Either way, have a wonderful week ahead. I hope you will stop by again. Later this week, I will have my Currently post. Always a favorite!
My walking has slowed down because of the heat and humidity. I cannot wait for fall and time to be outside in fresh cool air!!
We just made the final decision for our Women’s Bible Study starting the second week of September. We are doing Lisa Harper’s “Luke Gut-Level Compassion”. I’ve started on it and hopefully, I’ll get most of it finished before September. Then I can just go over each lesson before we meet for the Group Study.
Enjoyed reading this! So much good stuff going on. The walking! YAH!! Congrats on two miles. And to sticking to it!! Candle making- hello crafty! Seriously, that is really cool and something I have thought about trying. Scone making- hello baker! Scones seem sophisticated to me and I do love how they taste. I hope your Monday is a good one!
I’m one of your new followers – nice to meet you.
I’ll be attending my Bible study this Fall, studying Revelations. I also have another one, that is more discussion than study and we’ll be diving into Isaiah. I enjoy the Fall for just those reasons!
I rarely have unpainted toe nails!
And I really enjoy a good peach Cobbler.
I’m with you on this oppressive heat, a fresh new pedicure color, lots of water with lemon wedges, and warm cobbler from the oven, Jennifer. I love this overview you’ve given us this warm August day!
It has been so hot here even very early morning that I’ve neglected my walking. We have done a lot of swimming which I think is a pretty good replacement. I’ve been trying to organize a wallpaper/paint project in a guest bathroom and finally made myself get it on the calendar today. Still a lot to figure out but I spoke to the decorator and she’s going to help me keep moving forward. I’ve struggled with the decision making, but I’m pretty sure she wants to tell me I’m overthinking. It’s a bathroom! Good luck with your organizing project.
We are having a blitz on all the jobs we’ve been putting off in the house. The shower in our ensuite needs replacing, it is 20 years old so has done well but the shower tray is discolouring and the rubber seals are splitting on the door so the time has come! We’ve also booked someone to paint our lounge, dining room, hall, landing and stairs. All jobs that we could do ourselves but would take such a long time and I know our enthusiasm would start to wane so it is quicker and better all round if someone else comes in and gets it all done in a few days! Summer has only just arrived here in the UK so I’m not ready to think about Autumn yet!
Oh yum, fresh scones are the best! We haven’t made scones in a long time… I don’t have too much left on my summer bucket/intentions list but it has been so hot I’m not motivated to do much of it. While I do love fall I am not at all anxious to rush it since I also love summer and know these sunny, hot days are numbered.
Jennifer, I pray that you will be able to accomplish many, if not all, of the things you want to do before summer’s end. From what I am seeing, our autumn temps aren’t supposed to be much cooler than what our summer temps have been.
