Well hello April! One of my favorite months and I’m so happy to have turned the calendar page yesterday. I thought I would start the month with my monthly Currently post. I do, sometimes, struggle to find something for each prompt so this might just be short and sweet. I’m sure that is okay. I have been having a hard time getting around to everyone’s blogs. I really need to set an afternoon aside to blog visit. Don’t throw in the towel on me yet. I so appreciate everyone’s stopping by and I promise to check in with everyone soon!! For today, let’s talk about some things “currently” in my little corner of the world. I am
LOVING – the fresh mulch. It looks super pretty but I even like the smell of fresh mulch. I had a very good friend in college (many moons ago) who was from Lancaster, PA (we were in Virginia) and he so missed the smell of cows. And cow manure. It just reminded him of home. Reminded him of the Lancaster hillsides dotted with farms. And I can appreciate that. Although I have never lived there, the unique smell of the entire Amish country area is just a balm to my soul. In a similar way, both fresh mulch and fresh cut grass smell like home to me. My childhood home, especially. I love it:)
ADDING TO MY CART – boho skirts. I have several in my cart just now although I am not even sure boho is actually my style. I did order one and it is to arrive this afternoon. I might be quickly taking all those other skirts right out of my cart. Lately, I have a thing for skirts with sneakers. All of my favorite presenters (on my Britbox shows) wear sneakers (or trainers) with their skirts and I really like the look. But…am I too old for this look?? Hmm. Definitely needs considering.
READING – more cozy mysteries. They are very much like Hallmark movies as the plots/story lines are all about the same. Just the names of the characters and the businesses they run change. But, for the most part, I like them. I read at night…usually just before bed. My brain is pretty much useless but this time so reading has to be easy. Light-hearted or even cute. Oh, and easy:)
WATCHING – Britbox. Or, at least, I am trying to watch it. So many of my favorite shows have ended completely (oh, Vera, we miss you!) or the next season is not yet streaming here. Some of our past favorites have gone lame (um, Death in Paradise is dying a slow death!) but we recently discovered Lark Rise to Candleford (which is only new to us) and we are so enjoying it!! Probably our current favorite show on tv.
LISTENING TO – very little. I listen to music in the car (most of the time) but not very often at home. My hearing is shot (no joke there!) and I have to turn the volume up so high that 1 – it’s embarrassing and 2 – everyone else in the house is yelling over my volume. It’s not cool so I’ve just gotten in the routine of enjoying the quiet. For the most part. Sometimes I do miss some music…for dancing in the kitchen:)
I hope everyone has a nice Wednesday. Here’s to a great month ahead! Let me know one thing you have been loving lately. And don’t forget you can see what everyone else is loving – and/or has in their cart – at the link-up here.
I listen to music in the car too.
I have seen the skirt and sneaker look a lot, too. I have not done it but I will never say never! It looks comfortable but something seems off about it, maybe because I associate skirts with dressier attire that includes dressy shoes. Speaking of association, I do miss my sense of smell being severely diminished in the spring because I, too, associate the smell of freshly cut grass with home. The smell of manure used to permeate the rural setting of my home growing up at different times of the year- I was happy to move to the ‘burbs and not worry about that smell association!! But to each his own, I suppose :). Have a great day, friend!
Lancaster PA is a beautiful area. I could understand why someone from there would miss it.
I love to see my flower gardens when they’ve just been freshly mulched, too, Jennifer. Yours in the photo above looks like such a calm and relaxing area. Love the bunny flag.
The one thing that I’ve been loving lately is all of the beautiful blooms around us! And hearing the birds singing, and peepers peeping. Oh…sorry, that’s more than one thing. But this time of the year, how can we have just one? 🙂
Have a great remainder to your week, Jennifer! xx
I lived in Lancaster from the time I was 14 until getting married at age 23. Then we moved to the neighboring county of York. My parents still live in Lancaster, so I can definitely understand the smell you are referring to … although I can’t say I enjoy it and don’t think I’ll ever get used to it. Maybe it’s because I came from New York before that (NY has entirely different smells lol). It really is a beautiful area and I love the Amish people. We travel to Virginia at times and love it there. My husband is a huge Washington Redskins fan (he refuses to call them by the new name). I hope you enjoy the rest of the week. I always enjoy your posts.
Another interesting glimpse into your life, Jennifer. I enjoy reading your thoughts. Your honesty confirms to me that my thoughts are not so weird after all.
Boho Skirts: I did not know what that was, so after reading your post I jumped over to Google Images to see for myself. Lovely. Feminine. but I’m too short (5’1″) to look good in a Boho skirt. There was a time when I wore what is now defined as “Boho” but I gave them up as they just weren’t right for me. Plus, my current station on life often has me either pulling weeds outside or riding a bicycle, so skirts don’t fit well with that.
Not to worry about not commenting on all the blogs you read, or responding to those who have commented on your blog. Except for the very closest of friends, I don’t think any of us can keep up with every post and detail. We all mean well.
I love the smell of fresh cut grass in the spring and summer… weirdly even though my brother in law runs a landscape supply company (and we’re there all the time) I’ve never noticed the smell of mulch before. That said I do love the scent when they are chipping the trees to make the mulch! I hope you like your new skirts!
Hi Jennifer! Your garden is so lovely. One thing I’m loving right now is the longer, brighter evenings Oh, and all the blooming flowers! I have a spring birthday, so it’s my favorite season, followed by summer. I also love a cozy (not scary) mystery. I’m a big fan of Hallmark mystery movies. I love the sound of your cute Boho skirts! Where are you finding these skirts? I need some new spring/summer clothes. I was just on Garnet Hill and LL Bean’s site with no luck finding things I like. Well, maybe a few things on Garnet Hill, but not for the price they are asking. Have a wonderful week!
New mulch looks so nice! Your yard looks wonderful.
I grew up on a farm so I understand your friends thoughts on missing the smell of the cows. There’s just something about country life!
We love Britbox and have watched so much there. Our current favorite was recommended by another blog friend. The Repair Shop – they get in treasured items that are broken and fix them. The people are so appreciative that these loved items are fixes. Different from our usual British Detective shows, but very good!
I have always been drawn to the Bohemian style. I hope you found some cute skirts. The longer dresses are really In too. I usually just listen to music in my car, and I smiled when you said you danced to the music in your kitchen. Something my mom did as well. She loved Barry White.
Wishing you happy April days.

I’m putting fresh mulch down in our woodland garden where the new plants are going . Hopefully it will help to spress weeds as well as enrich the soil.
Although Boho is not my style it is pretty. I hope your new skirts are just what you wanted.
Lark Rise to Candleford is really a nice show. I have started on the Good Witch, it’s also clean, no language and it’s from Hallmark (the show is like 20 yrs old now). No worries about blogging etc. I certainty can understand, sigh. Wishing you a lovely weekend, my friend.
Good morning! I have been thinking about wearing more skirts–especially in these summer months–so let us know if you end up liking the boho style after all! I hope you have a good week!
