Happy Monday! It is a rainy and rather chilly Monday here. The weather has been allover the place but, I suppose, that is buried in the definition of spring. The temperatures at night have gotten extra chilly again and the plants I had moved back outside, after attempting to over-winter (which was going so well), are not all happy. We decide to bring two back inside last night but I’m not sure the back and forth is going to help at all. I am pretty sure we might have to get rid of one of them. Sigh. But, we tried. The grass should enjoy all this rain, though, and maybe even some of the pollen will be washed away. I should put the porch furniture out on the lawn (ha) as it is in desperate need of a good washing!
But before the rain began, it was a beautiful weekend. And we took advantage of it. We went to a bluebell festival…which basically means the bluebells were in full bloom and that is reason enough to celebrate. Celebrate with food trucks, live music, vendors and just being outside. And, of course, hiking paths flanked with fields of bluebells. It really was pretty. I even took pictures. But I will warn you, they pretty much all look the same:)
The festival was at the Shenandoah River State Park. I have no idea how miles of trails are in the park. We simply took advantage of the path along the river that led from the parking area/field down to a large parking lot where the activities were located.
There were plenty of paths (off the beaten path) which were fun too! Most of these paths led down the river..which, yes, was frezzing but there were a few brave ones with their feet in the water. There were dogs aplenty enjoying the break from the heat. It was actually quite warm (I think it got to 81) on Saturday!
I don’t know a lot about these pretty blue flowers. Looking online, they were described as “an iconic wildflower” but then I read they grow from a bulb. I find it hard to believe anyone planted all these bulbs. I’m thinking a wildflower which makes them all the more exciting, and beautiful, in my opinon.
Enough bluebell photos. It was a lovely way to spend a Saturday. I have to admit, I was a bit overdressed with a long-sleeve shirt and got very hot when we started to hike back to the car. As in sweating. And I don’t sweat – ugh. But nothing that a little soft serve ice cream couldn’t fix. Yep, back to back weekends that include ice cream:) Like I said, it is rainy rather steady this morning but, nevertheless, here’s to a wonderful week ahead. Thanks for stopping by. Let me know…did you see anything beautiful over the weekend??
I love Bluebells and your pictures have helped me to put a smile on my face! Thanks, my friend! xx
Oh how beautiful – I love bluebell woods. It’s a little early still for them over here but as soon as they are in flower I will be checking out the local woods for a pretty walk with Coco. I think that they are the kind of bulb which multiplies naturally every year so once they have started flowering, the next year there will be even more!
So pretty. Rain has been a constant in our area.
What a great theme for a festival! How beautiful your hike looks. A capping off with ice cream sounds like a “sweet” ending to your adventure. It rained and rained and rained and rained here over the weekend. Saturday and Sunday. Nonstop. I saw my beautiful boy over the weekend. (I sound so arrogant but a mom is gonna mom, right?)
My husband lived in that area years ago. I just asked him about it. He was in/near Front Royal and rented a cabin at Shenandoah River State Park where they stayed during the visit. Beautiful pictures!
What a lovely way to spend a day, meandering through the bluebells. Like your bluebells, we have poppies that come up in abundance some years (but other years, it’s too dry for them to grow). I have always wondered if they are planted – have heard that helicopters drop the seeds some years. Or maybe they are volunteer and just come up when conditions are perfect. Whatever the case, the poppies and the bluebells are little miracles.
Oh what a lovely day! Thank you for sharing it with us.
Thank you, Karen!!
What a wonderful weekend you had enjoying the Bluebells.
