Trading my ashes for beauty….that He might be glorified. Isaiah 61:3
Who am I? A wife for almost 40 years. A mom for over 36 years. A sister and a friend, of course. Each of these help describe me. But, even more, I have been a Christian since accepting Him as my Savior when I was 12 years old and, this truth defines each area of my life. I have enjoyed some mountain top experiences but have been through some very deep valleys as well. Valleys of incredible grief and even pits of depression. However, most of my days are ordinary, routine kind of days. But in every one of my days, God has been faithful. He has walked with me whatever the day. He strengthens, comforts, encourages and blesses me with life "most abundant."
A favorite life verse: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10
Why do I write? Though not quite as private as my dad, I am definitely my father's daughter. I find it difficult to share. And to let others in. But I do love to write. I love to put words into sentences and sentences in paragraphs that help express my thoughts. I hope my words help me share my heart. Share the life that God has given me and all that He has done for me and through me. I write with the hope of giving Him at least a bit of the glory He is due.
A verse to guide my writing: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. I Peter 1:7

Happy Monday friends! I hope you had a nice weekend. I sincerely want to thank everyone for their kind comments and congratulations on Friday’s post. This community is so encouraging and I am very grateful to “be back” to blogging. I’ve talked about it before but I am not exactly sure how many of you who leave comments actually see my replies – so, at the risk of repeating myself, thank you very much:) With all said, here are some things I learned this past weekend:
1 – the mosquitoes (still) love me! I had hoped (just maybe) with all the medically-induced changes to my body (aka annoying side effects), I would somehow now be immune to those pesky mosquitoes. And no see-ums (ugh!!) But, that was, apparently, too much to ask for. We have been spending evenings outside as often as we can. And dusk during the summer simply means mosquitoes. My husband never gets a single bite. Not one. I, on the other hand, am usually driven inside because I can feel them feasting on my legs. I see no point in mosquitoes!
2 – I need some new summer clothes. I know we still have several weeks of summer weather, but I feel like I have already “run out” of summer clothes. I definitely have more fall/winter clothes than summer (not sure why) but I should have more than enough warm weather things to last the season. However, most mornings I, truthfully, have nothing to wear (lol!) But…
3 – I really do not enjoy shopping. There was a day that I did, enjoy, shopping but it seems those days have passed me by. I’m not sure that I’m entirely thrilled about this truth. Granted, it does save money but I don’t exactly know how to entertain this new, older version of me!?!?
4 – regrowing your hair is a lesson in patience. A long, over-extended lesson in patience. This one really needs no further explanation but this weekend, I have been particularly impatient. I am so anxious for hair that needs to be styled. Needs to fussed over. I would be happy with a enough hair that simply needs to be brushed. Ugh.
5 – the rule-follower in me has now fallen victim to my watch. Or, rather to my Fitbit. I never really wanted a Fitbit – for this exact reason. But I was gifted one for my birthday back in April. Said Fitbit loves to remind me that I am 125 (or 150 or even just 45) steps short of my goal for the hour (I did even know I had a goal!?) It will vibrate and let me know to get up and start walking. And I do. Really?? I am embarrassed to admit how many times I have completed laps around my kitchen and dining room just to satisfy the suggestions/demands/rules of a computer on my wrist. But, tis true.
6 – time with family and friends plus a few great meals equals a great weekend! I had a bit of both this past weekend. My monthly breakfast with my girlfriend was on Saturday. Those Saturdays are always a highlight of my month. Today sees me getting ready for a bit of a vacation. Tomorrow, I am flying to my friend’s house in North Carolina. In just a few days, I will be soaking in all the baby goodness of baby Tyler!! I hope your Monday is off to a great start!!
I’m SO ready for Fall! I also have more Winter clothes than Summer.
I attract mosquitoes like farmers to a barn dance…they love me, too.
My hair has really thinned since I’ve gotten older; been tempted to cut it but…nah, Winters coming.
My FitBit does the same thing…but if I’m away from my phone, it lets me know someone called.
Have a sweet week!
Donna
I do appreciate my Fitbit letting me the phone is ringing….especially since my hearing is so poor! That is a perk! So glad you stopped by this morning – have a great day, Donna!
Happy Monday, Jennifer!
I have a Fitbit too and sometimes I get this random message that says ” You need to get a move on!” and I get so offended! The nerve! 🙂
I bet it’s tough to wait out the hair growth! It seems that hair is one of those things that does the opposite of what you want it to do.
And I have way less options of summer clothes! I love fall and winter clothing, for the layers and cozy options. The summer just offers t-shirts and some sort of pant (hopefully with an elastic waist!) 🙂
The nerve of those Fitbits – exactly!! Hopefully I am getting in those extra steps….and I will actually appreciate her help one day. Too funny!!:) Have a great week, Debbie!!
I hope you have lots of fun with Baby Tyler. Hang in there on the hair, it does eventually come back. But I know you know that. I have an Apple watch and I have been known to do the same thing. lol But I guess it does make me move more and I know that’s very important. Hope you have a great day.
Yes, so looking forward to meeting Baby Tyler! Glad you stopped by, Cathy. Here’s to a nice week ahead:)
I don’t like to go shopping neither ! I only go when I really need something and food shopping is a nightmare, I try to do it once a month. Except fresh fruits of course. The weather has changed, when I was young (looooong time ago) we put summer clothes apart for winter and when winter was over w put the winter clothes apart. Today I leave everything like it is, (except thick coats) because in summer we need winter clothes and the other way around !
