Thankful Thursday…and this Thursday I am so grateful for the opportunity to homeschool the last 2 1/2 years. For the 12 years preceding that, our children attended the Christian school at our church. I was also on staff there, as an aide, and we were very involved…and I am VERY grateful for those years as well. I never really imagined myself involved with homeschooling at all. However, when Tyler was diagnosed with his tumor, it was only a couple of weeks before we realized he would not be able to keep up the pace at school and, so, began our experience with homeschooling.
Our daughter was a senior and we allowed her remain at school to finish her year, but we began schooling Tyler and his older brother at home. We did choose to use DVDs in order to make the transition as smooth as possible for the boys – and I don’t consider my “job” as teacher nearly as challenging as so many I know about; nevertheless, the rewards for me were just as tremendous!
God not only gave me extra time every day with Tyler – he finished his entire eighth grade!! – but we continued to homeschool my older son after Tyler passed away. The bond between us became one for which I will forever be grateful! During some deep valley days for me, my son gave me purpose, hope, encouragement..and smiles (he really is funny!).
I admire all moms who homeschool – and do it well. I don’t know how “well” we did with the whole process (looking back, there are lots of things I would have loved to do……of course) but I will always be grateful for those months with my boys, the memories I have, and the impact homeschooling had on all of us!
Another beautiful and inspiring post! Thanks so much for sharing with us.
